While Ronny Deila rested 10 players ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League play-off decider, Maribor changed only four players for their 3-0 win over Zavrc, who were three points ahead of them on the Slovenian league. Wednesday’s goalscorer, Bohar, was replaced midway through the second half, while Tavares came on for the last 10 minutes.
Whatever regrets Ronny has over yesterday’s defeat he’ll get over it when he sees a dressing-room full of players who have rested and trained appropriately all week.

Lenny should not have been given the job when he was – he was the cheap option who was
“Johnny on the spot”
He became a better coach as time went on but last season I thought his team selection and tactics in the CL group stage games were average to poor.
I would never be overly critical of him because of all the outside garbage he had to contend with but I really do believe that it was in his own interest to leave before the zombies arrive in our league
RD certainly talks a good game but like all managers he has to deliver
Tuesday is massive – like everyone I would hope to see us in the CL but being honest I think that at this point in time we are miles away from being a CL calibre team let alone squad.
We need the money – but we need to spend on the team
As well as the two signings that people are talking about we need the following
LB to cover/challenge Izzy
Proper defensive mid – like Victor
Proper CB -especially if VVD leaves
Another proper CF to cover for the Serb bhoy

You are correct; this is far from a foregone conclusion.
Over the last 2 years Maribor have scored away from home at the likes of Tottenham, Dinamo Zagreb and Rubin Kazan. They most definitely are not a Shakhter Karagandy.
I think we will need to score at least twice on Tuesday night. My worry is whether this Celtic team has enough goals in it right now.
Dundee Utd and KR Reyjkavik home game aside (where we got lots of joy from set pieces) we have struggled for inspiration and goals in the eight competitive matches played so far this season.

Will catch-up re: travel etc once we get passed this week (fingers crossed)!!

Not sure of the exact dates for the new Youth League – but I seem to recall that it was to fit in around the CL Group Stages. Might be something to do with Club travel arrangements etc. I think the original Next Gen Series was frequently played the day before – Mondays/Tuesdays.

Shirley the question is : if amido does not have the most basic of football skills why is he even on the bench in an spfl game
He was taking up a spot that one of our younger skilled boys should have had
Suppose the real question is : did anyone actually watch him play a few times prior to buying him
—–
Tis indeed the question.
I remember seeing some footage of the squad on a pre season tour with John Barnes. Scandi destination if memory serves.
Saw footage of them sitting on their erchies in a circle. They were doing keepie ups around the circle….sitting down!
Thought to myself. I could never do that!!!
By contrast watched poor Amido and thought….even I could do that.
A sorry sight.

My friends in Celtic,
As many have said the game against Maribor is not a foregone conclusion.
This is the biggest game of our season–bar none, no matter what transpires in the CL or Europa. It will define our season. Fiscal policy, bums on seats, player signings and general interest.
I only hope that we have the crowd and support that a match of such importance deserves.
If at all possible, get out there and support the hoops. Give the TV and the pub a miss and make the effort.
HH.
This will make the OB bill look timid in comparison

TheGloriousBalanceSheet, i see your concerns & agree. I think we have a very average team which is weaker than last year compounded by the introduction of a new manager. I think at times like these its us the fans who become the extra man. A full house and a may put some Maribor players off their game. To go from a 12k stadium to a white hot cauldron at celtic park will be daunting. If we play our part i hope we can get them over the line & if we do I then i hope PL is suitably grateful and gets the finger oot!

I hope to see a right few departures later this week but not sure who would want some of them and given their wages they won’t want a cut
Plenty on here have identified a good few positions to strengthen .. Hopefully mubarek and the big striker are joined by a few others
The most important match of the season so far is almost upon us and some so called Celtic fans would rather go and see a couple of Geordie funnymen, what has our support became. Dearie me ;)

I agree with your post 100%.
problem I foresee is the suits not willing to spend where we need it.
I can only go by what has gone before re spend, so not overly hopeful.
If we don’t spend, Ronny will need to be given time, which many don’t seem inclined to give him.
he has taken over a squad that isny the may west, we have a few decent players, but as yesterday showed, we are seriously lacking in depth.
I hope he is given the time needed to mould us, and time to develop the kids.
There is something about this man, can’t put the finger on it, but I reckon he is a top coach in the making, and I hope to hell it’s with us.

Di Maria …£65m ….nuts…one goal every six games
Man Utd defence is stinking ….why are they spending so much on another attacker ….

I know that this one has had an airing previously.
In the modern era of CEOs, just how much say do managers and coaches have onthe matter of player recruitment?
ach things are how they are I suppose …they,ll never be the same again my friend….but that you know ……
there are things we can never control…..we were given hair on our heids to remind us …
all the best for Tuesday, will be a braw night ….

See above lol
We’re not good enough to write Maribor off so it’s all to play for. We created plenty of chances out there and should have won the game. Celtic should be confident but not arrogant.
