CELTIC have failed in an initial bid for Red Star Belgrade centre-back Veljko Milosavljevic, according to reports.

The champions have allegedly made the first move for the defender, who will be 18 next month, but have been knocked back by the Serbian club who are demanding £8.4million for their sought-after prospect.

Everton, too, have been monitoring the form of 6ft 4in Milosavljevic who played 14 games for his parent club in the first half of the league season before making nine appearances on loan for second-tier outfit Graficar Belgrade after the turn of the year.

The Hoops have made the early running for the towering teenager who has also played in a defensive midfield role for Red Star.

ON THE RUN…Mathias Kvistgaarden is poised to quit Brondby.

Paris Saint-Germain, who face Inter Milan in the Champions League Final in Munich on Saturday night, have also been credited with an interest in the versatile performer, according to Serbian media outlet Meridian Sport.

Elsewhere, Celtic may have to get involved in a transfer tug-of-war with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for long-term target Mathias Kvistgaarden, the Brondby striker who is poised to quit the Danish club in the summer.

The Parkhead powerbrokers realise they may have to top their previous highest transfer deal – the £11million to sign Arne Engels from Augsburg in August last year – to land the 23-year-old marksman who has just been promoted to the senior Denmark squad.
