CELTIC POST-SPLIT HEADACHE

CELTIC’S post-split Premiership fixtures will be revealed tomorrow.

The champions are 13 points ahead at the league summit, despite their disappointing 1-1 with Motherwell at Parkhead yesterday.

One game that has already been determined is the visit to Ibrox, but Ange Postecoglou and his players will have to wait until the rest of the schedule is announced before they know where and when the other matches will take place.

Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs and St Mirren are now certain to take their place in the top six after Livingston blew their chance with a loss against relegation-threatened Dundee United at Tannadice.

The SPFL hierarchy now have a headache as they attempt to work out the crucial run-in. The Hoops have already travelled to Paisley twice – the venue for their only domestic reverse of the campaign – which is likely to mean the Saints heading for Glasgow.

Celtic have already played the Dons twice at Parkhead – winning 2-0 and 4-0 – and it’s the same situation with Hearts and Hibs.

Postecoglou’s men have beaten the Tynecastle club twice at home – 2-0 and 3-1 – and similarly the Easter Road outfit, 6-1 and 3-1.

The champions, though, will now play an additional home match against one of those opponents.

They have played once at Pittodrie, Tynecastle and Easter Road – beating the Dons 1-0 in December, Hearts 4-3 in October and the Leith outfit 4-0 three days after Christmas.

They are due to play another league game at one of those venues, but one will now have to be switched to Parkhead.

The SPFL rule book states: “All clubs will play a minimum of two and a maximum of three home fixtures after the split. We try to ensure that all clubs finish the season with a home fixture in round 37 or 38 – they would typically be away from home on the other matchday.”
