Celtic pounce on Hibs errors

132

It was neither glorious nor convincing, but Celtic’s poor record at Easter Road was improved by Martin O’Neill’s sixth win in seven games since returning as interim manager in October.  Hibernian bossed the early exchanges, with Celtic careless in possession, but outcomes are often determined by who makes the fewest mistakes.  On that metric, the champions prevailed comfortably.

For the second time in three days Celtic profited from a poor pass from the opposing goalkeeper.  You and I have watched Scottish football long enough to respect any side try to play out from the back, but Hibs’ Catcher in the Net, Raphael Sallinger, erred when trying to pick out a pass with Reo Hatate ready to pounce.  The reborn-midfielder had the freedom of the penalty area before passing to Daizen Maeda, who rolled the ball into the empty net.

33 seconds after play restarted, Yang did what Yang does – found space on the left and delivered an inch-perfect cross for Arne Engels to power a header Sallinger got a hand to but could not catch.  Hibs were bust and Celtic moved into what looked very like Game Management mode.  Martin O’Neill must wonder why Yang and Engels were unable to command a starting slot earlier in the season.

A penalty early in the second half got the home side within touching distance of Celtic but despite forcing Kasper Schmeichel into action on a couple of occasions, they never looked likely to draw level.

The penalty did not affect the outcome of the game, but I have questions.  The ball first struck Liam Scales on the shoulder before his hand made contact.  When is a ricochet from close range that deflects onto a hand or arm not considered an offence?

Scales for me had his arm in a natural position, the ball looks to have hit his shoulder first and the ball was not travelling towards goal…✅

Hibs should have conceded a pen for the late head crash on Yang. Their player does not make contact with the ball and head butts Yang. It’s a foul and a pen all day long.✅

I’m still celebrating being at Easter Road 1977 when Joe Craig scored. Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.

  7. “We’re on the march with . . .”

The Celtic Fans Collective have confirmed their march will begin outside St Mary’s Calton Church on 89 Abercromby Street at 1.15pm on Sunday, December 7, one hour and 45 minutes before the match against Hearts gets underway.

The Celtic Fans Collective have also revealed they will make a stop at a foodbank collection organised by the Green Brigade and are encouraging supporters to donate to those less fortunate this winter.

As well as confirming the protest, the group have also once again condemned the comments made Desmond Jr at the AGM. Their full statement reads: “At the recent AGM, Ross Desmond, speaking for his billionaire father, sneered at and tried to belittle Celtic supporters. His comments were met with immediate, loud and united resistance from shareholders and supporters who refused to be talked down to.”They were designed to be insulting. They served only to remind us further of our identity which supporters hold dear. Celtic was born anti-establishment. Standing with the marginalised and challenging those in power where necessary are the very foundations of this club. Our fans are unapologetically proud of our history and our values. “On Sunday 7th December, a Fan March has been organised from our origins at St Mary’s, Calton to our home at Celtic Park. We will assemble at 1.15pm and make our way peacefully to the stadium ahead of an important match. “Along the route, we will pass a Green Brigade Foodbank Collection point, where supporters are encouraged to donate non-perishable food or toiletries to those in need this Christmas.”All Celtic fans are invited to join us as we embark on a unifying and defiant celebration of everything good about Celtic Football Club.”

  8. Yang isny a winger he is more of a John Hewitt in his Aberdeen days type of player, always more than a handful, if played properly, playing in behind as like a second striker in a 4-4-1-1 set up, and also playing around Johnny Kenny then Yang, I think, will surprise a few people.

To play Yang or any other player as a “winger” without giving him a ball to run onto to utilise his impressive pace like MON did back in the day with Agathe and Petta, will leave us with a frustrated player being judged by misguided fans as a dud etc.

Petta was particularly good, so good that several Hun players were sent off for trying to kick Petta off of the pitch in LCSF in MON’s first season were we gubbed them 3-1 at Hampden. lol

  11. Seems the new left wing Party, ‘Your Party’ (they voted against using ‘Our Party’) has been paying attention to the also newly formed Celtic Fan Collective (CFC?) in terms of its political structure. Your Party has voted in favour of a “collective” leadership model with neither Zarah or Jeremy at the helm, one to be “steered” by a member led executive, not a whole lot different from the CFC’s preferred model of putting a “steering committee” at the wheel. Some have suggested that this is based on an idea advanced by no less than Vladimir Lenin (ie not Putin), which in itself brings with it the dilemma facing aspiring revolutionaries the World ower…..

Are you going to find yourself in the Vanguard……..or in the Guard’s Van?

  12. The polis know that if they had to try to [kettle] Huns fans then the rest of the Huns fans would click into Manchester 2008 mode.

A thousand Huns to one polis would be the Huns response and has been all the way since they rioted and wrecked Wolverhampton in the 1960’s.

Before all seating nobody would have dared try to [kettle] the Celtic fans either.

    BUT.

All seating, Thatcher’s evil plan which killed 97 innocent Liverpool comrades RIP, has created a society of football ‘sheep’ supporters who are easily managed and bullied,

    BUT.

The Huns are like a pack of Wolves that no one will go near, unless its a random collection of Huns with their families and stuff like was seen at the last Europa League final the Huns were in.

Celtic fans are viewed by others [nowadays] as the other erse cheek of the Tartan Army clown show. lol

I wonder if the PLC sharks have noticed this and why they never attempted to steer Celtic fans away from being made to look so stupid?

Maybe the PLC sharks prefer stupid Celtic fans?

GTTF – I didn’t say Larsson was a winger, I said he played there for Sweden at USA94 which is where I (and many others) first saw him. Sweden had a frightening forward line at that time.

I love the Wikipedia entry on his time at Feyenoord, no idea if it’s true but… “He made his league debut on 21 November 1993 as a substitute for Regi Blinker in a 1–1 home draw against Vitesse.” From modest beginnings, eh.

Reading on, seems he was played all over the front line at that time, no settled position despite him earning his spurs as a striker at Helsingborgs.

Anyway, it’s peripheral to the main point.

BTW, and not to disagree with the thrust of your point, but what age was Ryan Christie when Bournemouth bought him? He’d been with us for 6 years, 3 of those unprofitably. Of course, Bournemouth got him for a virtual burton given he was in the last year of his contract and wouldn’t extend.

Armstrong was 26 when Southampton paid £7M for him. Kyogo went for £10M at 30 years old.

There’s value at different points in a career. The guys who establish themselves as performers in their early 20s go for the biggest bucks as you say, but there’s no telling when a player will emerge as a performer so I’m not inclined to get too anxious about a younger player who has the attributes but hasn’t yet converted that into performance. Clearly the ship sails at a certain point in time and time is a finite resource itself.

I doubt we disagree on very much of significance though. Player development is fraught and opportunity is limited. It’s a tough racket. The funnel is very wide at the top and hopelessly narrow at the bottom.

After the tough assignment in Holland it was another three valuable points yesterday at what has proved a bogie venue for the Hoops except for Martin.

We know Martin is a good manager but also a lucky one with the midas touch, everything he tries seems to work as evidenced by response he’s got from some of his much criticised squad players.

Engels had another fine performance crowned with a terrific score and a sore head for his effort. Reo and Daizan combined yet again as they did in Europe with the Green Panther pouncing on Reo’s pass for a well worked score. Upwards and onwards to Wednesday night.

    “We’re on the march with . . .”

From a personal view I question this:

They served only to remind us further of our identity which supporters hold dear. Celtic was born anti-establishment. Standing with the marginalised and challenging those in power where necessary are the very foundations of this club. Our fans are unapologetically proud of our history and our values.

To me Celtic’s core value is love of others.

That was manifest by Brother Wilfrid following the teachings of Christ.

Apart from throwing buyers and sellers out of the temple how was Christ anti establishment, but if he was, how did he demonstrate it?

Not by judging, not by not forgiving as his last words give testament to.

I might be on my own but to suggest Celtic’s founding values are anti establishment, which justifies the confrontational approach of The Collective is a highjack job.

The Collective leaders might want to align the Purpose of Celtic with their own but what is needed is a consensus across the support and Celtic on what the purpose of Celtic is.

A return to true core values , not made up ones, is where I think unity lies.

I might be alone in my thinking and dismissed as “away with fairies , bible thumper or any form of labelling that prevents giving the issue of Purpose of Celtic any thought, but I get inspiration from Invictus .

    ——————

Apart from what is a matter of the soul, there are practical ways of bringing about change that apply to Celtic/DD AND the support alike .

Bringing about a desired change begins at home and both sides of the divide need to look at their own behaviour.

” It’s certain that until we stop trying to impose our views and ideals on the ones we hope to change, and instead focus on their equally valid thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, we’ll remain unable to encourage their behavioural transformation.

Come to think of it not really feeling I have heard anything constructive from ‘the not so collective group.

Certainly not seeing anything which would improve the club or anyone involved who I would trust to give me 6 leagues int he next 20 years never mind 16.

Some folk are easily offended mind you and get awfully upset when someone speaks the truth as they see it.

Come to think of it some on here were sure BR would come back in ‘lawyered up’ after DD put out some of the things which had been misrepresented by BR. Not heard a thing from the former manager. Anyone suggest why not ?

Tough gig for BR, tough gig for Wilfried Nancy turn “ club signings “ into CL contenders, even the Boss’s son turned up at the AGM and blurted we can’t compete in Europe, ( some cheek ) so just try harder keep beating Sevco and you’re a success.

This was precisely BR’s argument that formed his petted lip, and eventual self combustion, he disagreed on the level of quality coming in. Wilfried Nancy faces the same dilemma ( though he probably doesn’t know it yet ) only the two deadline day signings were amongst the prices paid by Sevco. Early days but it’s not exactly looking great for them when Yang selected 75 times by BR is ahead for a starting place.

Rocco Vata touted for a big £2OM move I see, it’s a very dangerous market for sure and selection scouting and sourcing must be spot on. This is especially so, when Celtic are manacled to the good value, no net spend, no investment policy. Mind you Nancy only has to beat Sevco, he’s got a clean slate and will make millions starting with selling our best player in January – rinse and repeat.

    …..

    Yadda, yadda, yadda.

    BUT.

There was no internet in 1849 – 1903, never mind 1888.

And because there is NOW an internet making Joe Public aware of stuff that others hid from them, HMRC-EBT’s for example, or the real versions of history which bear no resemblance to histories that Catholic schools etc taught us about, or the true outplaying of the Church which now sees the Church in Ireland lying in the gutter, as was no more exemplified than the last time the Pope visited what used to be “Catholic Ireland” and was greeted with a less than half empty park as the dogs on the streets would put it.

    Dogs are wise you know.

An Ireland were street parties were held to celebrate being legally allowed to murder the unborn, at the same time as RTE/Fintan/O’Toole/ were sent out to tell the Wolfetones to their faces in RTE news studio line on the live news that:

“THE WOLFTONES ARE TOO ‘WHITE’ FOR THE NEW AND MODERN AND PROGRESSIVE IRELAND.”

They fkn said that then started finger pointing into the mesmerized Wolfetones faces. FFS!

So, asking people to act as if this was 1849 – 1903 – 1888 is a howling at the moon ask.

Still no mention of £49 Old Firm Treason tickets is NOT in the interests of honesty and transparency and the spirit of whatever prehistoric statue is rolled out today, is it?

Hope you are keeping well man.
