CELTIC RECALL LOAN BHOY

ADAM MONTGOMERY’S season-long loan deal to Fleetwood Town has been cut short.

The 21-year-old left-back has returned to Celtic following an injury-stricken spell at the English third-tier club.

Montgomery, who has also previous temporary spells at St Johnstone and Aberdeen, signed a 12-month contract in July last year to be reunited with Hoops legend Scott Brown who had taken charge of the club the previous summer.

However, the switch has failed to ignite with Montgomery making only six appearances, his last coming in 3-0 defeat at Northampton at the start of last month.

HEAD BHOY…Adam Montgomery comes close with a header in Celtic’s 2-0 Europa League win over AZ Alkmaar at Parkhead in August 2021. Odsonne Edouard sits this one out.

Brown was sacked from his post at the start of September and his replacement Lee Johnston, the former Hibs gaffer, suffered a similar fate last month. Ex-Scotland international Charlie Adam is now in the hot-seat.

A club statement read: “Fleetwood Town can confirm defender Adam Montgomery has been recalled by his parent club Celtic FC.

“Montgomery’s spell on the Fylde Coast was hindered by a succession of injuries which limited the defender’s time on the pitch during his short spell at the League One side.
“Everyone at the club would like to thank Adam for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future back up north of the border where he will join back up with the Hoops.”
Celtic’s Republic of Ireland Under-21 intermational centre-back Bosun Lawal will remain at the club until the end of the season.
The highly-rated 20-year-old defender has made 26 appearances for Town.
