Celtic rested and ready

656

Brendan Rodgers had to prepare a tired and injured squad in recent weeks as he competed for the League Cup, Europa League and league title.  He rested players at Motherwell, bringing criticism from some quarters, but won the League Cup, qualified for the next phase of the Europa League and sits three points clear at the top of the Premiership with a game in hand.

At Pittodrie we saw Celtic move through the gears.  Aberdeen are in their best form in years, but could not take a point despite two penalty kicks, one of which should have been tied in a Christmas bow it was so generous.

A little later, Neil Lennon took Hibernian to Ibrox.  Neil has a significantly poorer squad than Brendan and is even more affected by injuries, but he would not be defeated.  If Celtic turn up at Ibrox with the same attitude they or Neil Lennon had yesterday, they will shred Newco.

Odsonne Edouard looked like a player transformed after a short break.  His contribution was critical in delivering the result.  Scott Sinclair’s hat-trick thoroughly answered any questions about his form.  Both are ready to do the necessary on Saturday.

We used to be ” all over them ” with Colrain and Conway, Jim Kennedy , Dunky Mc Kay et al., but they used to skelp us virtually every time.

    Our ” mentality ” , I feel , played a part.

    Jock fixed that.

Perhaps Brendan learned from that lesson.

    Hail Hail

That was during the Kelly era, when he wanted us to play in the Corinthian style.

Big Jock changed that and injected confidence and a will to win.

Harnessing the genius of a certain Bobby Murdoch helped.

  3. A few posters ( I think) hoping we make the Hun support very angry tomorrow. I would much prefer we make them resigned.

A wee bit damp here in Arbroath but good enough for golf.

    Cheerio for now.

Although I am confident f pumping them, 1-0 will do me. 3 points is all that counts… Although a hunskelping would be a nice way to end the year.

    It’s abooooot mentality……

Just take the three points away fae thum and remove any hope fae the sleekits….then we can retire to a safe, comfortable distance to watch anither hun implosion and some life-affirming blue on blue warfare.

The 3 points will be hard-fought tho’……………withoooot hun help, thems would be abooot 9 points worse off the nooooo.

We’ll have to overcome more than the ms as per usual.

Thanks for your concern but I’m around 200 km away .Lot of injuries and structural damage in the northern suburbs of Catania and in some of the small towns on the Catania side of the volcano . It’s been very active but as of this morning it seems to have calmed down . Lot of red and black ash on my trees and greens . Picked 2 big broccoli earlier — both were covered in ash and needed a right good wash before being fit for tonight’s Orechiette Broccoli e Salsiccia

Am I alone in thinking that our fans will be in more danger tomorrow if the huns score, this mob are worse when winning than when losing and with all around them jumping up and down its easier for them to throw their missiles .

Reports over here say the person killed was hit by a van, was this accidental or deliberate???

  14. …………can we add “game -in-hand”, to the must be avoided list of forbidden words or phrases for huns????

  15. 50 SHADES OF GREEN .

Some reports state it was an accident / some reports state it was deliberate . Being Italy -it’s likely we’ll never know .

Standard line is that he was a known far right Ultra with convictions for football related violence who was killed by a van after he and some other Ultras had attacked a van (with batons /hammers etc ) containing Napoli supporters.

  16. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game with hope in my heart. My wishes are simple:

    1) All Celtic supporters in attendance return safely to their families and loved ones unscathed after the game.

    2) We are a very good performance from Celtic

    3) The game is refereed fairly

    4) A Celtic win by any margin.

    It’s insane .

According to the Italian equivalent of the Beeb -he was 35 , married with 2 children . Allegedly the leader of a group of Varese (Serie D team ) Neo Nazi Ultras called -Blood and Honour … Allegedly he was one of a group of around 100 far right Ultras ( Inter / Varese and Nice ) who attacked a convoy of vans transporting Napoli supporters to the game.

  19. GG/Macjay don’t forget they also had thugs like baird, davis and shearer in their side tae. Jock changed our approach, toughening up nice guy big Billy and sending them a message with Ian Young puting the wee Fife Ned on tae the running track in the ‘65 LC Final

  20. Goals Galore 4

Good Afternoon folks and we hope you all had a very pleasant Christmas?

Welcome to the launch of our brand new competition, “Goals Galore 4” which will commence on Saturday 5th January ( Don’t worry LMS will be back after a wee rest)

Simply pick a different team each week over the course of the next 10 chosen “fixtures weeks” and the entrant with the highest aggregate goals scored will take the top prize (roughly 90% of the total prizepot). To keep everyone fully involved, there will be a separate prize (about 10% of the total prize money) for the entrant who does best over the final 3 rounds. So even if you get off to a disappointing start, there’ll still be everything to play for as the weeks go on.

The cost of entry is £10 per team entered and this gets you one free joker which, when played, will double your score that week. You can also buy one additional joker for £5. You can also enter as many teams as you wish.

The prizepot will consist of 50% of the entry and joker fee, with 50% going to support two great causes, soon to be announced.,

Really, really simple to take part and all you need to do for now is just register your interest by sending an email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com. If you have a moniker, nickname that we can use to identify you once the competition starts then please tell us that. We’ll get back to you with full details asap.

Please feel free to tell your family and friends, share on Facebook, twitter, involve your work colleagues, etc. We are a competition Open to All. The more that enter means the bigger the prizepot and the more that goes to good causes.

The First round of fixtures will take place over the 5th/6th January, and will feature games from the 3rd round of the FA Cup, when the ‘Big Boys’ join the competition. There will be 12 games each week, so 24 teams to pick from. Easy, huh ? No-one gets knocked out, and everyone has a chance of winning a prize right up until the last set of fixtures

Italian fitba media saw fit to use some of the tackling in that game ( and the pitch invasion ) to whip up some – this lot are northern barbarians- sentiment before Italy 3 – Scotland 0 . Typical lets condition the Officials stuff

  22. So, what I just did was to firstly put 2 slices of bloomer white bread under the grill. When the top side turned brown I turned the 2 slices over and covered each one with slices of cheese. I then put the ingredients back under the gill, cheese side up, and watched as the cheese slowly bubbled and melted over the bread. I put both slices on an upturned pizza board, sprinkled on some pepper, and, aided by a knife and fork, began to each every morsel.

Embdy have a name for this delicacy?

  23. JOBO BALDE @ 1 11 .

In this part of the world that’s called — pane tostato con formaggio tostato — I had some recently in a bar on the beach in Sampieri . Mighty fine and made all the better by the barman spinning the great – Kenny Dorham — Quiet Kenny — shame it was a CD and not an LP but you can’t always get everything !

  24. Form going in and formations on the day are critical. But DESIRE could be the main determinant tomorrow. For as Ms Quadro (non football-schooled) often says after watching our lapses…”the other team just fought for it more.” Macjay1 said cornered rats: They can’t outplay us, maybe only outfight us. I trust we’re up for it. HH

  25. Just trying to stimulate some debate on a very quiet Friday afternoon. No mention of roasted yet so looks like the ole debate has finally been settled. As for using cutlery, it turns what would have been a snack into a proper lunch!

Already planning dinner – jelly babies, selection box, mints, Jaffa cakes (did I say I received a jumbo 100 box?) and wine. Probably no cutlery required but I’ll see how things develop.
