‘CELTIC RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE MOST PRESSURISED JOBS,’ INSISTS RODGERS

BRENDAN RODGERS has opened up on the constant demands and relentless pressure of managing Celtic.

Amid speculation over his future with his three-year contract due to expire in June, the Irishman insists being in charge of top-flight clubs in England would be “a holiday” in comparison to the expectation levels at Parkhead.

Rodgers emphasised that is not enough simply to win games at the Hoops, but he must achieve victory in the manner associated with the team that became the first British club to conquer Europe with their 2-1 victory over Inter Milan in the memorable evening of May 25 1967 in Lisbon.

The 52-year-old gaffer has sampled life at the highest level across the border at Liverpool and Leicester City as well as the burdens of guiding the likes of Watford, Reading and Swansea City.

STRAIN GAME…Brendan Rodgers looks on during Celtic’s goalless draw at Ibrox in August.

Speaking of the tension of being team chief at the champions, Rodgers revealed: “You can go to quite a lot of teams in the Premier League and it would be nowhere near, it would be like a holiday compared to managing Celtic.

“Celtic is right up there with the most pressurised jobs in football. It’s the expectation to win every single game.

“And not just win the game, but to do it in a style that is synonymous with the club. Because the club was the first British team to win what would be the Champions League, the European Cup.

“And they did so in a style, and that set the DNA for this club.”

Rodgers, speaking on BBC MOTD, added: “So it’s not just about winning, and coaches and managers will say it’s only about winning.

“But, at Celtic, it really is more than that.

“You can go to quite a lot of teams in the Premier League and it would be nowhere near, it would be like a holiday compared to managing Celtic.”

The Hoops gaffer is now preparing his squad for their return to action following the international break as they get ready to take on Dundee in the midday kick-off at Dens Park on Sunday.
