CELTIC: SCOTTISH CUP UPDATE

0

HOLDERS Celtic will discover their Scottish Cup quarter-final opponents this evening.

Brendan Rodgers’ men booked their spot in the last eight with the help of a hat-trick from Daizen Maeda in their 5-0 triumph over Raith Rovers at Parkhead on Saturday.

There is no chance of a repeat of last season’s Cup Final at Hampden after Rangers were dismissed from the competition at the second hurdle as they toppled 1-0 to Queen’s Park at Ibrox yesterday.

CHEERS…hat-trick hero Daizen Maeda with the match ball.

Skipper James Tavernier squandered the opportunity of taking the tie to extra-time when he saw his penalty-kick deep in stoppage-time repelled by the second-tier club’s heroic keeper Calum Ferrie.

Sebastian Drozd was the game’s only scorer with a low drive past Liam Kelly in the 69th minute.

The stadium was engufled in boos and jeers at the final whistle as the home side’s remote chance of domestic silverware this time out was dynamited by their city rivals who last beat them in a competitive fixture SEVENTY-SEVEN years ago.

The ballot will be delayed until after tonight’s St Mirren v Hearts clash in Paisley which kicks off at 7.45pm. If there is no requirement for extra-time or penalty-kicks, the draw is expected around 10pm.

CHEERIO…Philippe Clement is transfixed on the touchline as Rangers exit.
