Celtic set to match and beat Scottish consecutive trophy record

316

As you know, Celtic have won six consecutive trophies. This had been achieved three times before in Scottish football, by Celtic in 1905-09, Rangers in 1963-65 and again by Rangers in 1992-94.  On the latter occasion, Rangers established a new record of seven consecutive domestic trophies.

Win on Sunday and we match Rangers’ record from the (painful) 90s, but that would set up this season’s League title as a new record decider.

The 1909 Scottish Cup was withheld after crowd trouble after the Celtic-Rangers final reply ended in a draw.  Celtic missed out on making it seven trophies in a row when Dundee won the 1910 Scottish Cup five days before Celtic secured the league title.

Those dark days in the 90s were hard.  Celtic were an afterthought for most fo the country, a sporting irrelevance.  Sunday is a chance to exorcise those dark days.

  1. SFTB There is always fear before a big game and tomorrow night is no different. I’m not too sure how strong Rosenberg’s extended squad is but yes guys coming in for a rare European game will be well up for it, still I feel we have put our early season wobbles behind us and we have begun to motor. I think we will win by at least 2 tomorrow.

Too many Jims on here for me to ditch Hot Smoked, I`m afraid :-)

I was actually being a wee bit lighthearted in response to your implied, as I read it, request for football talk but Broonie`s availability does pose a selection problem.

I think most are agreed that Calmac ( and Celtic) have been very good indeed of late. Broonie, on the other hand, has been fantastic for two seasons. Like you said, Brendan is well paid for a reason.

`My final fear is we get the result against Rosenborg but don’t clinch the deal vs Salzburg`

    That is certainly a possibility.

Just to add to your fears, the odds the bookies are offering does not fill me with confidence that Salzburg will be giving their all against Leipzig.

  3. Hot Smoked I think they will start with Brown on the bench and bring him on to tighten the game up if we are ahead after half time. McGregor I think is a certain starter.

  4. As far as RB Salzburg are concerned, if they get beaten by 2 goals by RasenBall Leipzig they may need to come to Celtic Park and get a result to go through. 2 wins for Celtic and RasenBall Leipzig could see RB Salzburg go out. Unlikely but a possibility if they screw up the scores.

Macjay IMHO Boris, Gove and Rees-Mogg are plotting in the background and working to bring May down. The government will fall and the result will be that the politicians use the forthcoming election as a “referendum” on Brexit. One mans view of the Tories. A nest of vipers if ever there was one.

    =======================================================================

I`ve got no doubt that you are right. May made what turned out to be a disastrous decision to go to the country and is therefore responsible for the Commons numbers.

Ie She created the current absence of a working majority .

Why would you want someone whose lack of judgement is responsible for that bebacle running the Brexit show ?

    Answer. You wouldn`t.

    But she is.

    Tories . Vipers ?

    Dear me.

  6. VFR

I would consider that the most likely scenario.Incidentally, all right for those of us who recognise your bike but how are new posters, who, like me, don`t know how to post a motorbike image, supposed to respond to you?

I`ll try to get in to Coia`s before much longer.

    Cheerio for now.

Would the Fixed term parliament act not stop that from happening? If May goes they will replace her with someone else and carry on.

If we have not to celebrate winning at the bigotdome or even scoring a goal at the home of the KKK, what do we do if surrounded by 52000 morrons, there is no place to celebrate.

Ah well feck the rules, go for it bhoys. Celebrate like we have never celebrated before, please. ?? ?

Trump was elected fairly and squarely by the same electoral process which chose Obama and Bush before him.

He is the legitimate president of the USA.

He is not a politician . He is an entrepreneur and a property developer and , he claims , a deal maker.

He doesn`t need money . He doesn`t need prestige,

USA , in my opinion , has been in serious decline from the time of Bush . Pre and post 9/11.

Trump recognised that and tapped in to the fact . He ” knew ” the American people better than the pundits.

I believe he sincerely and genuinely wants to MAGA .

And is doing his best to achieve that aim.

    You don`t , but that`s fine.

If I were you , I would be more concerned about Trudeau .

    Minus 7 in Norway today.

    Good News:

Forecast is for 4 degrees above in Trondheim tomorrow with blustery winds.

Bad News: Blustery in Trondheim is usually described as ‘barely survivable’ in other countries.

    And it’s just started snowing.

I hope we’re not falling for the ‘we don’t really care’ stuff coming out of Trondheim. Rope-a-dope.

…just perhaps , the Tories sometimes have the right policies for the British people.

Well, the facts of the matter is this…

Next year the British poeple will have had forty years of Thatcherism.

Since WW2 the country has never been more divided…

You see now we can look back with 20/20 hindsight and realise that none of those policies “worked” for the British people. None.

Because if any did, you could tell us which ones they were;)

    Ghuys, your telephone’ S ringing, it’s Celtic… here’s the deal…

    Southampton FC has approached Celtic…

They say in January you can have Armstrong back and £3M and we take Calmac!?

Brendan and Peter sit down to discuss but can’t agree…

So they’ve called you up. You have the casting vote, what’s the decision?

    Hail Hail

Not seen you posting for a while I trust you and your parish are well. Anyway just thought I’d let you know that I managed to get my niece a selfie with KT when he was puting on the christmas lights in Fraser’s last week. She was the happiest I have ever seen her. She nearly fainted with excitement. KT was there for well over an hour with fans signing autographs and taking selfies. That young bhoy is a credit to himself, his parents and Celtic football club. So I want to thank you for your efforts earlier this year and let you know I still owe you a drink.

    KEEP THE FAITH

  17. I’d start with Broony on the bench. We’ve been playing very well of late so happy to bring Scott on during the game if needs be.
