Celtic should accept Wilson ban offer

1201

Celtic should accept the offer of a two match ban for Kelvin Wilson following an incident at Dens Park on Boxing Day.  He has never been an aggressive player, so there is no need to assume intent, but an elbow to the face is a painful experience and potentially dangerous.  These are the rules and they are there for good reason.

    Are you Chick Murray?

  2. There are no time limits on when to make a complaint of assault so Celtic could dig out video evidence of numerous such attacks on their players and take it up with the police.

“@MattMcGlone9: My information is that the Club will NOT accept this ban offered to Kelvin Wilson!”

  4. From the last thread for the New Year

    Homemade Baileys

    Try this:

    300ml cheapest own brand whisky

    180ml Double cream

    120ml Condensed milk

1 heaped teaspoon instant coffee granules (we use the ‘ground coffee’ type of instant)

    1 teaspoon vanilla essence.

Put in ‘used’ Red Label bottle, shake well until coffee dissolves. Keep in fridge…drink at will.

Approximate cost per bottle is £5.

  5. It’s utter nonsense to ban Wilson for this “offence”.

He was running ahead of Baird who was holding his arm to slow him down. Wilson merely shook off Baird’s grip. It was Baird’s bad luck that he was so intent on fouling Wilson that he wasn’t paying attention to the possibility that he might come off second best himself.

Question: if Baird’s fouling had won him an unfair advantage and he had scored an equaliser to secure a draw for Dundee, would the SFA be talking about cancelling out the result and awarding Celtic a win?

    No, I didn’t think so.

Celtic should fight this suspension on principle. If Wilson needs a rest, the manager can give him one anyway.

  6. can we leave out how many elbows, gascoigne et al have got away with over the years, the club they played for got away with blatant cheating for years so its hardly news,

anyway if memory serves me right kelvin wilson has already said it was unintentional, the fella baird reckoned it was unintentional, the operative word would appear to be unintentional,

are we actually suggesting taking a punishment for someone sustaining an accidental (albeit painful) elbow to the face?

sorry paul cant agree with you on his one

At least we won’t have to play these Teuchter huns next season, or perhaps ever again at Dungdee.

Some of the residents of Dundee will no doubt be huns, however they have never been, and never will be, Teuchters (unless from up North).

Disappointed that Santa did not give you an atlas, so that you could begin to build on your somewhat lacking geographical education. If you cannot come out with something sensible, why don’t you just shut the hell up, you ignorant fool.

  8. Paul you have it wrong this time. Once a year is not too bad a record.

Mind you my wife has a 100% record being right. Well that’s what she tells me.

There is no clarity about the incident and only the two players involved know the real truth. One of them has made a public statement that it was unintentional.

End of story surely. Not in Scotland apparently.

Lets not make the Dundee lad a liar.

Neil and Peter must resist attempts to punish Wilson.

“How do you accidentally elbow in the face someone whose presence and exact position you are keenly aware of?”

You don’t but your premise is wrong. The use of the words “keenly aware” are not appropriate to a situation where you are running with your back towards the player who is tugging or grabbing you. He knew there was a player in the vicinity but he did not know where his face was.

“Has anyone here ever accidentally elbowed someone in the face? Or been accidentally elbowed in the face?”

Yes it happens all the time.

Not all injuries are deliberately inflicted.

    Some are careless.

Some are caused by 2 people attempting to injure each other and one coming off worse.

And some are attempts to shrug off a player but your backward movement combines with their forward movement and results in an unintended injury. I believe Kelvin tried to free himself but, by doing so with a violent jerk (This is not a comment on the Dundee player), he risked the possibility of striking the player more forcibly than intended and in a place he did not intend. If he had dropped to indicate he was being held, I believe Brines would not have awarded the foul and Dundee would have attacked with one more forward against a Celtic defence minus one defender.

  10. Ten Men

I agree we should take them on, but it’s no gonna happen.

The suits are happy enough at the back of the bus, unless it’s all part of a plan :>)….but from where I am sitting, if it is part of a plan, they are failing badly, the suits should be standing by the club, they have a duty to.

They are bending over time and time again, why I ask myself.

  11. charles kickham on

Is this the opposite of pleading guilty to assault on national tv – going to court and being found not guilty

  12. And while we’re at it, it’s time that Celtic withdrew co-operation with media outlets such as ESPN who see fit to employ a low-life such as Craigan as an expert. Expert, my arse.

If it’s a contractual obligation to put players and managers forward for interview, the club should instruct them to answer every question with either, “I don’t know,” or “no comment.”

Only an idiot would doubt that the likes of Craigan and Burley will never miss an opportunity to criticise Celtic in a way that no other club has to suffer. We are fools to accept this kind of treatment without fighting back.

Celtic is by far the most powerful club in Scotland and it’s time we started flexing our muscles.

  13. Ten Men

Have just watched again (admittedly on a smartphone – for about the 10th time) and it’s Kelvins’ right arm being pulled.

Whether I believe Brines would have given the foul is a separate matter (of course he wouldn’t (didn’t?)).

For me it’s a question of whether you would have a good chance of defending at the tribunal…and on this occasion I think we’d lose.

I DEMAND to know the names of those involved in calling Kelvin to book..?

Why not? Works for the rabid ones..

I demand to know the name of the person delivering Kelvin his ” letter”.

    STAND UP for Celtic..

You can just imagine Fergie saying accepting it.. Aye right! I ll call a foul a foul.. I ve called out Celtic players before.. Seldom happens but I would..

In this case.. Not a chance.. Accept this and they ll be in the SPL before you can say corruption .. The masses are at the wind up just now.. A la Diouf signing …

    Stand up! Man up!

I AGREE if Kelvin says .. Aye a clipped him.. Then fine, a ban. I want honest Celtic players.. This is a kangaroo court, precipitated IMO by Craigins constant highlighting ..

  17. Just heard that a lad in our town by the name of Tommy Fitzgerald who was known far and wide as Tommy Celtic and was one of the most over the top fanatical Celtic Supporters I ever met was killed last night. There were times when he was boozed that I was glad to get away from him but I loved the guy. Facts are sketchy but it seems he was locked out of the house last night and got a ladder to climb through an upstairs window and fell breaking his neck. He was aged 49, I am in total shock.

  18. Somewhere in Scotland, Mr “Impartial” himself Steven Craigan has just soiled himself with excitement. Proof that someone takes him seriously. A man who said “Dundee need to force Celtic into unforced errors”.

If Kelvin Wilson and Neil Lennon say it was accidental then they should certainly appeal it. Since when did trial by ESPN count?

  19. TSD

    Carmen Miranda?? Ena Sharples??

Do you have problems with strong women? Or is it fruited millinery or milk stout that upsets you.

I wouldn’t go telling Anders Breivik that he was a leftist. He is liable to shoot you. They can be quite intolerant these far rightists, but I am sure you know that better than me.

BTW- If I am going to be properly frightened by your demonology, should you not occasionally deliver on your threatened doomsday scenarios.

Where ARE the 3 million gypsies that the Daily Mail promised me were invading this sceptred isle? I haven’t heard a good flamenco tune in ages.

  20. That Graham spiers article I thought was a joke initially. How an article that is so pro-sevco and anti-Celtic is allowed to be published is remarkable.

And that’s not even mentioning Butcher manager of the year!!!

  21. THE EXILED TIM,

i agree are custodians have no interest in standing up for

certain things that are right because it goes against the establishment and is a possible danger to their own

    and comfortable position in life.

  22. Ntassoolla – i can only imagine that you never played a game of orgainised football – and given that you are from NE Glasgow that would be hard – if you beleive that you cant accidentally elbow someone in the coupon.

  23. setting free the bears @14:32 at the risk of being a bit technical the onus tends toward the accused to prove it was accidental. I do appreciate what you are saying. It comes down to judging each case individually.

However. I think we are discussing the wider question of whether the football authorities are partial in applying the rules.

If Celtic threatened the authorities with going to the police over past incidents, the SFA could be forced to drop the case against KW. Cue – Hue. And cry. They could then be made to enforce the rules. Always.

My own position is that the authorities are biased.

At the risk of re-igniting the debate of 3 days ago, I’d have no problem holding this particular loaded gun to the SFA’s head. My only fear is that I might come over all trigger happy and make things ten times worse. Or better.

There is a a very strong Establishment belief that Football Supports should be non political and this mantra has rubbed off on some elements of the Celtic Support. I simply don’t subscribe to this, if for any reason a large base of any Clubs Support adheres to a Political Social Philosophy or to a Nationalistic ideal, be it Basque, Catalan or Irish etc what on earth is wrong with that. Football is Tribal and if there is a logical Historical reason for the tribalism it only makes it more understandable. We shouldn’t be told that we can’t express our sentiments or our admiration for a person, or a Cause. Wasn’t it Tommy Burns who said when you pull on a Celtic jersey you are not just playing for a team, you are playing for a People and a Cause.

So long as it’s not SCOTTISH nationalism…….
