Celtic should accept Wilson ban offer

1201

Celtic should accept the offer of a two match ban for Kelvin Wilson following an incident at Dens Park on Boxing Day.  He has never been an aggressive player, so there is no need to assume intent, but an elbow to the face is a painful experience and potentially dangerous.  These are the rules and they are there for good reason.

  1. Neil Lennon wants left-hand drive at Celtic

    Ronnie Cully

    Senior Sports Writer

    NEIL LENNON is today preparing to step up his search for an attacking left-sided player to give his squad the balance he wants for the second half of the season.

    Neil Lennon will soon be boosted by the return of James Forrest, Joe Ledley and Kris Commons

    The Hoops will be competing on four fronts after the mid-season break, chasing a domestic Treble and facing Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League.

    Lennon does not envisage making many changes to his playing pool when the transfer window opens on Tuesday, either in or out.

    But what he would like to see is the arrival of a player with pace to operate on the opposite wing from James Forrest.

    Talent-spotter-supreme John Park has been casting his net far and wide to identify possible targets, and Lennon is ready to make his move if the opportunity arises.

    The Parkhead boss confirmed: “There is a bit of an imbalance at the minute. We do not have a natural left-footed player down that side.

    “They are difficult to find at times, and will probably be even more difficult to find in the January window. But we are looking.”

    Even without any new additions, the competition for places in midfield is increasing rapidly.

    Forrest is gradually returning to full fitness after his injury problems, Kris Commons is also set to make his comeback after recovering from the stud in a thigh sustained during the win over Spartak Moscow, and Joe Ledley will be back after the mid-season break having rested his groin problem.

    That could all be bad news for Paddy McCourt, who has struggled to get much game time this season.

    With the contract extension he signed in 2010 running out, the 29-year-old Northern Ireland international – who has been at the club since 2008 – is fast approaching another major crossroads in his career.

    But Lennon is in no rush to usher him out of the door of the club where he has become a cult figure to the fans.

    He got a warm reception when he came on as a substitute at Dens Park in midweek, and Lennon revealed he has no plans to sit down with McCourt to discuss his future.

    The manager said: “Paddy has been injured, and that’s why he has not been playing.

    “I would like to give him more game time if I could. But he has found it difficult to get into the team this year because the team has been excellent.

    “But he is still a very important part of the squad.

    “We have not had a chat about his situation, and we have had no phone calls about him, so that leaves me happy.”

    ………………

    Agreed, what is distasteful however is that ignorant slimeball of an espn media muppet agitating for our player to be banned.

  3. I assumed that the abuse Efe received was not racist but as a consequence of the incident in the first couple of minutes when the ball went out and the Dundee fans kept it for some time before it was eventually returned to Efe.He was certainly booed more than other Celts but I picked up nothing of a racist nature from the TV coverage so will have to defer to those at the match.

  4. Re Kelvin Wilson.

    After reading Paul`s article and the resultant posts, I found myself agreeing with the majority ie Fight the case. Having now seen the incident, I am certain Kelvin would lose . So, if he / Celtic fight the case, it will be on a matter of principle as only the player knows what his intent was.

  5. 2nd league match of the season, Grant Munro with eyes on the ball and Kris Commons advances 10 yards at an angle to be adjacent to KC, forearm smashes KC whilst heading clear. Craig Thomson observing waves play on ….

    What we are seeing this year is too many games where the refs are trying to even up the league…..

    … Kelvin’s elbow / arm came up as a result of being impeded, he also from what I could see did not turn around and clock his opponent, clear open and shut case of an accident….. appeal required.

    Still we will do the treble and just hold the thought of how painful that will be for a lot of peepul in Scottish football … we are living in beautiful times for football!

    Merry Christmas to posters and lurkers, mineshafters and moon howlers alike.

    The major talking point this week must surely be…

    Sienna Miller or Tippi Hedren?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Tippi has had more luck than me wi “The Birds” over the years.
    Actually,so has Sienna.
    Away to google the video………
  7. I don’t know if I should really own up to this but……….. I “met” Parker and Lady Penelope (with car) at a charity function many, many years ago!
    Memories of very happy childhood!
    RIP Gerry
  8. Ten Men-agree totally.Challs has been hauled up twice already by the goon squad at Hampden already,and left both times laughing in their faces.Fight this all the way.
    ” I “met” Parker and Lady Penelope (with car) at a charity function many, many years ago!
    Memories of very happy childhood!”
    Yep, the drugs were high quality in the 60s :-)
  10. So, again, if it was Elbows McCulloch who was involved with John Baird, who would be saying that Lunny’s a disgrace and Sevco should fight this all the way?
  11. Over..and...Over on
    Apologies if I am picking this up the wrong way. All the posters that say accept it and move on must surely agree that any incident like the one with big Kelvin, where someone unfortunately gets hurt must accept a 2 game ban even though it is clearly an accident.
    So what happens if there is a clash of heads and one person gets hurt, but idiots like Craigan and that fud Burley say it was an intentional head butt, what next.
    It was clearly an accident with no intent. Kelvin no case to answer. IMHO
  12. Major News Breaking from Sevco
    “Sevco Squad not for sale”
    I kid ye not repeat
    “Sevco Squad not for sale”
    Wenger, Mourinho and Ferguson set to test Charlie’s resolve. (O.K. the last bit I made up)
  13. Me? I’m paranoid.
    Taking in the game and hearing the commentaries (which I’ve recorded) I could tell immediately this game was earmarked press wise for notoriety. The immediate foaming at the mouth call for a ban for Kelvin Wilson before the game ended made me certain. Thank God Gordon Strachan is not on-message.
    I heard a few songs and I knew that this week was our press bashing week. ‘Disgrace’ being one of today’s back pages.
    Boxing Day game, minus the The Rangers, 7.30pm kick off?
    Press and media primed.
    2 world class goals – heard nothing about them.
    Welcome to the press minus the The Rangers in the SPL – just the effin’ same press as them being in the SPL.
    Twas ever thus.
    Nothing moves faster in Scottish Sport than a bad story about Celtic and it usually comes in direct proportion to any success we’re having.
    Never buy the Sun, The Record etc etc etc. Forego the phone ins. Discern the ‘usual suspect’ advertisers and quietly boycott them.
    Let’s hope the authorities are as vigilant on occasions involving sevco.
    How many times has Elbows McCulloch got away with this?
    >>>>>>>>>>>
    That is the point in all of this …….. there is one law for them, and one for us ……..before they died, their hoardes caused mayhem wherever they went and it was swept under the carpet by the media…….following the Manchester Riot, the LL tried to blame the Police, Council…. anyone but the bhun hooligans………that’s why they were never welcome ANYWHERE …….
    This new club in SFL3 have hoardes with a similar nature and their behaviour at several games has been swept under the carpet……. on the other hand, any negativity surrounding Celtic has been splashed all over the papers with great glee……..but we are used to that, and it looks as though we will have to continue to resist…….it won’t change in this Country……..
    The demon drink played it’s part last night, and the football / TV authorities would be better employed being more careful when they schedule matches
    Incidentally, if there was racial abuse aimed at Efe, it needs to be investigated by the SFA / SPL …….
  15. I’m firmly in the appeal camp – there was nothing in the incident and the Dundee player said there was no harm meant.
    Is is paranoid to think that were a Celtic player not involved we would never have reached this point?
  16. Strongly disagree Paul. What do people do when they sprint? They move their arms. If someone grabs your arm when you are sprinting,it is human instinct to free yourself. Baird took a foolish risk and was accidentally hurt by Kelvin.
    Celtic should accept responsibility for being the origin for sectarian and racism in Scotland too, the Celtic support should attend all games with their trousers and drawers around their ankles always awaiting instruction to bend over and brace themselves and say thank you sir when the ordeal is over.
    This site is becoming a copulating disgrace.
    ht,
    Previous blog 100% on Lennon, Lenny if you’ve nothing good to say about the support keep it shut, they were your only backers throughout your tribulations in Scotland.
    Your employers were complicit in the silent compliance to keep Scotland’s shame a secret, not the support who backed you 100% aye even the bampots that got drunk and raucous at the game.
    Contrary to what the filthy scum and those who aspire to mediocrity have been posting over the last couple of days, the Dundee game was a flash in the pan, the only casualties were our usual ripped knitting brigade, and to be honest I’d like to see them offended more often, IMO they are the people we should be trying to drive away from our support.
    Problem is they are exactly who the board want as supporters, passionless golryhunting drones who have less objection to the sash than the boys of the old brigade.
    Just finished Hilary Mantel’s novel Wolf Hall. Worthwhile taking a peek if historical novels are your thing. Now, who should play Mary Boleyn in the movie… Tippi or Sienna?
  21. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors on
    The Evening Times …..” sevco are BRACING THEMSELVES FOR A BATTLE WITH QUEEN’S PARK TOMORROW ATE HAMPDEN” ………. gutter press trying to stir up the hoardes with the only (hooligan) language they understand ……. Sad, really….!!!!!!
  22. After the rush to judgement by Burley and Craigan which was in stark contrast to that of the players involved I disagree with Paul67 anddon’t think there is any option but for Celtic to fight the case.
    If we allow television and radio commentators (normally Masons with pro Hun anti-Celtic agendas) like the pair of clowns on Wednesday to decide the mens rea or intent of players then we will be forever under strength through suspension.
    This has always been an arbitrary sanction, which does not affect those teams whose games are not televised, or those whose friends in the media chose to ignore controversial incidents.
    This incident was blown out of all proportion by the bigots with microphones, whether contrived or coincidental they both made a mountain out of a molehill.
  23. “I have difficulty sometimes talking to people who don’t race sailboats.
    When I was a teenager, I crewed a 58-foot sloop called Cantice.
    There was a little piece of kelp that was stuck to the hull, and even though it was little,
    you don’t want anything stuck to the hull. So, I take a boat hook on a pole
    and I stick it in the water and I try to get the kelp off, when seven guys start screaming at me, right?
    ‘Cause now the pole is causing more drag than the kelp was.
    See, what you gotta do is you
    gotta drop it in and let the water lift it out in a windmill motion. Drop
    it in, and let the water take it by the kelp and lift it out. In, and out. In, and out, till you get it.”
    I think that those with the responsibility of steering the good ship Celtic are working on
    picking up another half-a-mile of boat speed…and I don’t want to get in the way.
