Celtic, St Johnstone and flash-in-the-pan winners

274

St Johnstone could cement their position as Scotland’s second most successful team over the last decade.  Not that they found it easy, they were pushed all the way to a penalty kick win last night to secure their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

While Celtic have won 19 major trophies in the last decade, Saints are the second most successful club in the country with two wins.  St Mirren or Kilmarnock, who play their quarterfinal tonight, could join them on two wins if they take the cup, as would Hibs, if they followed their 2016 success with a win this season, although Hibs tradition is to leave a respectful 114-year gap between Scottish Cup wins.

Apart from Celtic and St Johnstone there have been eight other flash-in-the -pan winners, seven of whom are solvent, not dependent on regular cash calls or in breach of Uefa Financial Fair Play regulations.  I know it’s been a hard year but solvency always has the final say.

Well done Leicester. Good three points.

Further reduces Liverpool and Tottenham chances of top four.

With it being Jimmy McGrory’s birth date today, it may be a consideration for East End Tims thinking of doing a Walk On for the Foundation in June, but without a destination in mind, to head along London Rd to St Peter’s cemetery to acknowledge his gift to us.

One of the easier lairs to find, through the main gate with a high road and a low road stick to the high road taking the first main path left close to the stairway going the other direction. In the front quartile, his Celtic Cross memorial is near the path facing away as you approach it.

The Graves Society should do a topographical line drawing for the 30 Celts there.

‘SDI still needs to be paid by Sevco’ can anyone enlighten me please what this means, how much and by when?

Truth is no one knows the answer to your question. Yes there is a dispute, yes there are ongoing court proceedings.

Unfortunately it is one of those things, Res12 is a another, that some folk on here use to back up their wishful thinking. The thinking goes along the lines of……something is going to come along to cause the Ibrox club to disappear.

The blunt truth is that they are now in pole-position – we have to get our house in order and push them back into the No2 position.

  4. Why are some folks assuming that Sevco will get through the qualifying rounds and into the group stage of the CL? It is not a given by any means, as Celtic have all too well demonstrated in recent years. Let us concentrate on our own needs rather than focus on issues over which we have no control.

The difference is that they will have no influence with the referees, even allowing for the ‘Dallas Factor’.
