CELTIC STAR SEES RED

CELTIC defender Hatem Abd Elhamed was red-carded as Israel lost 1-0 to the Czech Republic last night.

The Hoops full-back was dismissed 10 minutes from the end of the UEFA Nations League loss for a handball.

Elhamed, with Parkhead team-mate Nir Bitton also playing, had been a stand-out as his country tried to fight back after going down to an early goal from Vladimir Dorida, according to a report in the Daily Record.

The Czechs are now in a position to threaten Scotland’s qualifying bid to the Nations League A section as group winners. Steve Clarke’s team’s 1-0 loss to Slovakia yesterday means they face a tension-laden final tie against the Israelis in Tel Avib on Wednesday to decide their fate.

Jaroslav Sihavy’s side face Slovakia at home in midweek and a win would pip the Scots if we lose or draw our game. However, a success would see Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor, Leigh Griffiths and Co take pole position no matter what occurs with our main rivals.

The group winners are promoted to the A section of the next Nations League alongside the tournament’s big guns and will set up some glamour encounters.
