CELTIC STRIKER MYSTERY

1

CELTIC were involved in a bizarre transfer mystery yesterday after it was claimed they had signed a Birmingham City outcast.

Alvaro Gimenez, the misfiring frontman who got the boot from the Championship side only SIX months after signing from Spanish Second Division outfit Alemenia last summer, had reportedly agreed a deal with Neil Lennon’s team.

The startling ‘revelation’ was made by the Sky Sports commentator during the Midlands club’s win over Brentford at the weekend.

He told viewers the 29-year-old attacker, who scored only three goals at St Andrews after agreeing a three-year contract, had joined up with Odsonne Edouard and Co as a striking option for the nine-in-a-row champions.

Gimemez arrived at Birmingham while former boss Pep Clotet was in charge, but was allowed to move on loan in January when it was obvious he was struggling in the English second tier.

He returned to Spain to sign on loan for Cadiz in the January transfer window and, after helping the side to promotion to La Liga, signed a permanent deal last month.

Remarkably, though, it looks as though he will be on his way again and there are reports the Spanish side would allow him to go on a temporary transfer or a sale.

One destination that looks highly unlikely is Parkhead, despite what the Sky Sports commentators may say!
