CELTIC TAKE £1.85m HIT ON MISFIT

CELTIC will take a massive £1.85million loss to remove midfield misfit Ismaila Soro from the club.

The Ivorian anchorman, who cost £2million when Neil Lennon bought him from Israeli outfit Bnei Yehuda in January 2020, is finally poised to seal a move to French side Valenciennes, a move CQN reported 11 days ago.

Soro still has 12 months to run on his contract, but boss Brendan Rodgers is happy to offload the 26-year-old to the Ligue 2 club for a cut-price fee, as stated in local sports media outlet FootMercato.

The middle-of-the-park competitor spent last season on loan at Arouca, but the Portuguese top-flight club did not take up the option to make the switch permanent.

Soro has also been linked with a move back to Israel – with Beitar Jerusalem mentioned – while Greek giants Panathinaikos displayed an interest earlier in the summer, but any proposed move did not get off the ground.

Now it looks as though his future lies in the second tier of the French divisions.
