CELTIC ‘TARGET’ GIVEN LUBO SEAL OF APPROVAL

CELTIC icon Lubo Moravcik has given a possible move by Brendan Rodgers for striker David Strelec his seal of approval.

The former fans’ favourite insisted the Slovan Bratislava frontman would score a “minimum 20 goals” if he got the chance to move to the champions.

The Hoops were linked with Strelec as they scoured Europe for a replacement for Rennes-bound Kyogo Furuhashi, as CQN reported at the beginning of February.

However, the Parkhead side were not impressed by the £8million transfer fee being asked by his club and any potential deal never got off the ground.

Strelec, who played in Slovan’s 5-1 Champions League loss in Glasgow in September, could now be up for grabs in the summer at a knockdown price.

ON THE MOVE…David Strelec has been among the goals for Slovan Bratislava this season.

Endorsing the penalty-box prowess of the 24-year-old hitman, Moravcik, speaking in a report in the Daily Record, said: “There are many stories about David and clubs are looking at him.

“He has scored 18 goals this season and he was out injured for two or three months.

“Right now, I have no idea where he will end up, but, if he does go to Celtic, I think it would be a good move for the club and the player.

“David has the capabilities to score goals for Celtic. He knows his way to goal, for sure. He’d score a minimum 20 goals for Celtic in a season.

“He’s a quality striker and has a presence. He shows that every week in Slovakia. He also shows it for his country and he played very well against England in the Euros last summer.”

Middlesbrough, who finished a disappointing tenth in the English Championship, failed in a deadline-day bid for Strelec and are likely to be among his suitors in the summer.
