CELTIC TRIO OUT AS CALEY BOSS WARNS OF CUP SHOCK

1

BRENDAN RODGERS will be without injured trio Tom Rogic, Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong as he plans for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup fifth round tie against Inverness Caley Thistle at Parkhead.

The Aussie midfielder, of course, is expected to be out for two months after his ankle operation.

However, the Scots double-act could be back in action for the Premiership meeting against Motherwell next weekend.

On-fire Armstrong is recovering from his hamstring problem while striker Griffiths is making progress with his calf strain.

Moussa Dembele returned from injury to score a hat-trick in the 5-2 comeback win at St Johsntone last week and will again lead the Hoops attack against the Highlanders.

Liam Henderson impressed and was also on the scoresheet in Perth and he may be handed his fifth start of the campaign.

Caley Thistle boss Richie Foran will be without defender Josh Meekings who faces two months on the sidelines after knee surgery.

Keeper Owain Fon Williams was dropped to the subs’ bench for the 2-2 draw with Dundee last week, but the Welshman could be restored to the starting line-up against the champions.

Defenders Lewis Horner (knee) and Kevin McNaughton (Achilles) are still sidelined.

Foran is quietly confident his team, without a league win since October, can defy the odds and wreck opposite number Rodgers’ treble ambitions.

He said: “We go there with no pressure – Celtic are through in most people’s minds.

“Celtic are a fabulous team, the best in Scotland, but even the best teams in the world have off days.

“We have to make sure that if they do then we capitalise on that.”
