CELTIC TRIO UPDATE

CELTIC duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston are expected to make appearances against Ajax in Como this evening.

The USA and Canada internationals have not been utilised in the pre-season games and neither of the defenders was among the 28 players stripped for the 4-0 win over Newcastle United at Parkhead on Saturday.

However, they are standing by to face the Amsterdam club as Brendan Rodgers ups the pace to prepare the champions for an assault on their fourteenth title in 15 years.

IT TAKES TWO…Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston swap over the captain’s armband in the 3-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park last season.

The Dutch club blew the Eredivisie championship last season when they conceded from a leading position to be pipped by a point by PSV Eindhoven.

Manager Francesco Farioli, who arrived the previous year from OGC Nice, paid with his job and John Heitinga is now in charge. They are a team with something to prove and will provide stern opposition.

Rodgers will welcome back Carter-Vickers and Johnston, but the Celtic fans may have to wait to get their first glimpse of Shin Yamada who only completed his £1.3million switch from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale at the weekend.

Asked if there would be a debut for the Japanese international striker, the Hoops boss, speaking to the Daily Record, answered: “I’m not sure. Shin has obviously just come in.

“He’s been with us for a few days and it’s just assessing and we’ll take it from there.”
