  1. Just in from the game. Brilliant weather; brilliant result. entertaining match. Summer football for me every day of the week.

Thought Brown, Johansenn and van Dijk were excellent, in the first half. Bringing on Biton settled us in the second. Promising signs of the ole pass and move, although I think our wingers have to be far more alert to the outball, when our goalkeeper gets the ball. He is instantly looking to throw it to feet.

Still, a very happy Celtic supporter down here in the sunshine.

  2. The huddle….

    What a feckin player mate…..

    Just watch Denayer’s positional sense

Incredible for such a young player

  3. Thanks to TBB’s dad’s ticket I got to watch a deserved win for Celtic today.

And all it cost me was a promise to Vote Yes :-)

I think most of the comments reflect our position at the moment. We are pleased that we won against one of our major Scottish rivals and we were the better team for 70 minutes of the game. We are not fooled that we have become a formidable or confident outfit yet as there is still not familiarity or consistent team pattern, nor will there be until this new group of players are drilled to understand their team-mates playing style and preferences.

We could have shipped points today but, to be fair, we should also have won more comfortably. We lost cohesion when Brown was subbed and only regained some when Bitton came on. There are some signs that Ronny is being less purist in some of his style as he told Efe to just clear it when he played his disastrous back pass in the first half.

Big dilemma for me is that Brown and Johansen are great at pressing and winning back possession but do not create much with the possession they have won. Bitton is not so energetic but is a bit more capable of retaining possession when we win the ball. It is hard to play this style without the skills of Xavi and Schweinsteiger to implement it.

Thursday will be interesting as Salzburg play a high pressing game too, or at least they did last season. It will be a harder match than today’s so we will have to play better too.
