There is a clear tactic going on where the opposition merely fall to the ground when any contact is made to our players. The refs are more than happy to accommodate, moreover it breaks down Angeball momentum.

  3. No-one busier: Greg Taylor’s impressive stats as Celtic thrash Aberdeen

    By Giuseppe Labellarte

Celtic maintained their nine-point lead at the top of the Premiership table with a 4-0 hammering of Aberdeen at Celtic Park.

Ange Postecoglou’s charges were simply a class above. They took the lead after just two minutes and set the tone for a masterful display.

The Dons could only half-clear a Greg Taylor cross. Callum McGregor pounced with a ferocious low shot that Jay Gorter couldn’t keep out.

Taylor then turned official provider on 13 minutes. The Celtic left-back fed Reo Hatate, who picked his spot in the bottom corner of the visitors’ net after some neat footwork.

Celtic could and should’ve been further ahead by the time the half-time whistle put a temporary end to Aberdeen’s misery.

Admittedly, the visitors put up more of a fight after the break. Nonetheless, the Bhoys went on to increase the scoreline and put the result beyond doubt on 76 minutes.

The outstanding Hatate out skilled two players as he worked the ball to McGregor. He then surged into the box and fired home as the ball rebounded to him.

Celtic had time for a fourth with minutes to go. Substitute Sead Haksabanovic squared for Liel Abada to sweep the ball first-time high into the net.

    Taylor enjoying his football

The vast majority of the Hoops players impressed on the day. However, we feel Taylor deserves another shout-out after putting in another strong performance in green and white.

It wasn’t that long ago that many deemed the £3m man a weak link in the Celtic squad [Fee: The Herald]. Since Ange took the reins, Taylor has improved to the point he’s now one of the most important Bhoys.

His recent combinations and relationship with Daizen Maeda have been especially great to see. That gives Celtic an excellent attacking platform on the left flank, which can create space for others to exploit.

Against Aberdeen, Taylor was simply unplayable down the left with his runs, link-up play, cut-ins and desire to impact the game driving Celtic on. His stats (as per WhoScored) highlight just how much he did right on the day.

Taylor got 129 touches of the ball – a team high – and made 107 passes, 86.9 per cent of which were successful. Two of those were also key passes, and a massive 14 of them were into the final third. He registered his third assist of the season.

Taylor also won four aerial challenges, four ground duels, made two tackles and one clearance, and completed one dribble. He can do the job at both ends of the pitch.

It’s fantastic to see Taylor loving his football and becoming a firm fan favourite at Paradise. His consistency levels have been outstanding and today was another example of that.

  4. Celtic: Journalists rave over Reo Hatate’s performance against Aberdeen

    By Stephan Georgiou

Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate received mass plaudits for his superb display in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.

The Lowdown: Celtic cruise to victory

Ange Postecoglou’s men put Aberdeen to the sword at Parkhead with a dominating performance that maintained their large lead at the top of the SPFL.

Hatate was at the centre of the action, with a goal in either half sealing the three points for the champions as he came in for widespread praise after the final whistle.

Celtic colossus could leave this summer after leaving Ange unimpressed; future in major doubt

The Japan international’s brace took him to eight goals in 33 appearances for the campaign, which is at a greater rate than his record of four in 21 last term.

But it wasn’t just his goals that had the media waxing lyrical, as his dribbling skills clearly set him apart in what was a highly impressive Hoops display.

The Latest: Hatate shines for the Hoops

Praise was everywhere for Hatate following Saturday’s performance, particularly after he doubled Celtic’s lead – captain Callum McGregor had put the home side 1-0 up inside two minutes.

Journalist Sacha Pisani was left raving over the 25-year-old’s footwork for his first goal of the day, which saw him jink himself into a goalscoring position despite being surrounded by Aberdeen defenders in the box.

Sharing footage of this goal, Pisani wrote on Twitter: “Mesmerising footwork from Reo Hatate. Celtic’s Japan international with the Samba feet. Boy, he’s a joy to watch in a Hoops shirt. Class.”

Celtic fans, do you remember who Ange’s first Hoops signing was?

The Verdict: Rangers final in Postecoglou’s sights

Hatate’s rich vein of form could not have come at a better time. With their nine-point lead at the top of the table maintained, attentions can safely turn to next weekend’s Old Firm clash at Hampden Park for the League Cup final.

The victory was Celtic’s ninth in succession across all competitions, and while Rangers were the last team to take points off the Bhoys, they will surely take confidence from the fact they haven’t been beaten by a domestic rival since September’s defeat to St Mirren – while Hatate is clearly at the top of his game at present.

Pisani wasn’t the only one to rave over the midfielder. The Glasgow Times’ Alan Galindo noted Hatate’s ‘stunning’ finishes, while The Celtic Way’s Tony Haggerty was blown away by his ability to drift into space and show composure in key moments, handing him a 9/10 rating in the process.

The stats also back up the praise, as Hatate was far and away Celtic’s highest-rated player on the day with Sofascore giving him a 9.2/10, while he clocked up an 87% passing accuracy, won 8/13 duels and brought up 100 touches – highlighting his influence on the game.

Heading into next week’s showpiece, Postecoglou will surely be brimming with confidence as he has a star in the centre of his Celtic side, which will try to secure a second successive League Cup triumph since the Australian’s arrival.

  5. Postecoglou added: “Kyogo is fine, he is raring to go and looking forward to next week now. He would have been fine if he hadn’t got on but John Kennedy kept telling me ‘look, he is getting really angry, you better put him on’.

“So I didn’t have much choice. I thought he was going to sneak on at one point. I just thought before the game it was a good chance to get Oh some minutes. Kyogo has been outstanding in recent times and it was going to be hard for us to find a game for Oh with the fact we are only playing a game a week at the moment.

“I didn’t want to go too long without giving Oh a start and I thought today was a good opportunity to do that.”

Mod, Prestonpans nailed it. Our press is very intense and the opposition can’t risk losing the ball in their final third so throw themselves (dramatically) to the ground on the slightest whiff of contact.

Needless to say, the refs do the rest – The flow gets broken, the opposition hoof the ball in to our half looking for scraps; rinse and repeat.

  9. JOTAS New Hairdo…especially when WET…..makes him look like The Mexican Freedom Fighter ” EMILIANO ZAPATA” from the early 20th Century….same Moustache also !

    VIVA ZAPATA !

    LOL

    HH.

  10. I hear lots on the media of how bad Aberdeen were today.

I think we played them off the park and forced them into having to play as they did.

I think credit to them for keeping it to 4. The fought and stuck to task after 2 early goals. It could easily have ended up another 9-0 but they applied themselves in a way others didn’t.

They frustrated us for 60 minutes in the middle of the game.

Ultimately we weee too good. Too great actually. What a great performance. No VAR help needed. Another 4 goals taking us to 7 more than Brendan in his second season.

Ange deserves to win a treble. Hopefully he will have a real go at the CL next season. Hopefully this time he will believe he deserves to be there and his team deserve to succeed unlike this season when the clearly had an inferiority complex running through the team at that level.

A ruthless win v our rivals next week will set us up for a record breaking next 3 months. HH

After watching highlights of huns game it just reaffirmed what I first thought , that penalty would not have been given to any other team . I’m sure referees see a lot of these wee jersey pulls in the box but don’t blow for fouls , especially if there was no real goal scoring opportunity/attempt denied ( the Livi defender was always winning that ball in front of fatboy).

Dallass saw an opportunity to help his team on their way to 3 points and took it . Technically correct but morally corrupt to the core .

  12. Many Thanks for updates today, as per usual- much appreciated.

Actually got home to catch some of BT sports’ result programme. Disappointed with Big Chris. On seeing Reo’s second goal his immediate response was “Here’s someone we’ll be seeing down here in England soon, he’s that good “ or words to that effect. Now, I know Reo is that good, but he’s our hidden treasure. No need to shine the light on him …. Not yet, anyway. He is rather special.

Seems there were a few faces at CQN corner today. Hope to make that wee place again next year. Got the golf on now. Not really watching.

Spent the few hours after the game with a mad co-worker who is trying to learn about soccer ball but was a baseball freak back in the day. We had purchased 8 cases of unopened Baseball cards from 1989 and 1990. Opened and sorted 6 of them. He was giddy and even I knew some names.

  16. Just after the 25 minute mark Celtic denied a penalty. Oh hauled back in the box two handed by their big centre half. Instead, foul against JOTA when he pulled out of the overhead kick.
