Morning on, on this day in 1967 Celtic brought the European cup home to Glasgow. It was the first time a non Latin club had won the trophy. The manner of their play delighted the footballing world as the defensive strategy of Inter was gone. It was a magnificent achievement.
Photographer, Thomas Annan’s task was a simple one. He was commissioned by the City Fathers of Glasgow to enter the disease ridden slums which had grown up in what today roughly equates to the High Street and Saltmarket district and record in photographs what he found there. Between the years 1868-72 Annan photographed a world of poverty, disease and despair in the maze like Closes and Wynds of that other Glasgow, a crime ridden cesspit where the sun never shone and a world away from the leafy mansions of the west end. In those days it was called District 14 and was notorious for crime, vice and all the ailments which deprivation brings. The world Annan photographed was inhabited in the main, though not exclusively, by Irish migrants and their offspring who had fled famine and oppression at home to come and look for work and bread in the industrial heartlands of Scotland. John Burrowes in his excellent history of the Irish in Glasgow; Irish: The Remarkable Saga of a Nation and a City,’ states that…‘District 14 was a human cesspit, a concentration camp of filth and disease.’ Into this ‘cesspit’ poured more migrant Irish in the late Victorian era. There was no welcoming committee, no welfare state or NHS, no council housing and precious little sympathy for the new arrivals who poured off cattle boats at the Broomielaw. Rapacious landlords threw up slums to accommodate them and then, eyeing even more profit, sub divided them until several families were inhabiting the same tenement flat. In some closes the inhabitants slept on every available foot of floor space.
Aye I noticed, Ange truly is a shrewd manager, he can see things, he is ruthless, made it clear it’s down to the players themselves to show that they deserve a starting place, just the way it should be.
I hope and pray that he will stay for another year at least, I reckon he really wants another crack at the CL, who wouldn’t, aye he could go to the likes of Spurs, rake in a few bob for a years work cos that’s all he would get there and probably drift into obscurity, naw, I reckon he has more savvy than jump ship this season, the CL is where it’s at for these guys and we can give him that, as long as the suits back him he will IMO stay.

The same suits who brought this us Ange :-)
Only joking mate … am loving Ange as much as the rest of us (and I definitely was apprehensive when he was first mentioned) … but enjoy what we have just now
I thought Brendan was here for the long haul (gutted he left, time is a healer) my opinion of Ange is I hope he stays for years … if and a big if, fcuk him if he leaves a bit like like Brendan thanks for everything but if Celtic isn’t enough fair play … it’s more than enough for all of us eijits
By the way …. Brendan in my opinion was a terrific Celtic manager who I bought into, same with Ange, I think Ange should consider any offer from any club but surely after quoting Tommy Burns today .. Ange is going nowhere …
Anyhow that’s for another day … I want Ange to stay for years but we will see
Enjoy the moment and this team are giving us moments to enjoy 🍀

Burnley, Think it might be his Agent, apparently the Agent was on the pitch with him after the game.

On a remarkable day, a couple of other non-Celtic games that were amazing to watch. The first was Dortmund losing the Bundesliga to Bayern in the dying minutes. The second was Luton winning promotion to the Premier. A club that was playing non-league football a decade ago and with a ground capacity of 10,000 has just won a 170 million prize. Bonkers.
Night all.

Hopefully we can settle a few scores next Saturday and end a hugely enjoyable but short era in our history in style.
We canny win all the time and personally am gutted that a terrific manager like Neil Lennon might not have gotten the fabled 10 but delivered a terrific 9… Ange is just another very special manager like every one before him … I think we should appreciate them all
We are very “lucky” to support this fitba club :-) 🍀

On the up side, should this alleged Spurs interest end with AP staying with us, then I’d be confident the wolf at the door that is the EPL is contained for a year or two. Spurs is the biggest EPL gig that Ange could get and I don’t ever see him walking away from Celtic & UCL for the rest of the EPL fodder below Spurs. All of which while he thinks he can achieve more at Celtic of course.
I heard Desmonds’ meet with Ange was to negotiate new deal which will be 5yrs being announced tomorrow
just what i heard..no provenance tho’
