Reasonably happy with outcome , close but only got a cigarello.
At the game I’m usually tense throughout expecting us to lose the ball everytime we play out from the back.
Back home watching game on TV , I can see the passages of great play, but also where we let ourselves down.
Playing out from the back in a rush (before our defenders are ready) seems crazy. Defenders have no respite from defending the previous attack , and are immediately put under pressure.
I have complained about our throw-ins since the Blog started , and we have never improved. So many of our shies are lost that we would be as well throwing the ball to the opposition, then closing THEM down to win it back.
It is important that we get a grip of this.
It has consequences.
Greg Taylor committed the foul for the penalty, and is getting the blame.
However , about 20 seconds before the penalty, Alistair Johnston was involved with a sequence of sloppy play from a throwin that lost us possession, that led to the penalty.
22mins.. AJ takes throw-in to Matt O’Riley, ball bounces high,
Matt can only play it back to AJ.
Instead of clearing it, AJ controls it because he thinks he has time,…he doesn’t and is immediately closed down.
He tries to clear, but ball come off Athletti player, It comes back to him, he tries a flick the ball to Daisen , bit the ball is lost ,
9 quick passes around the edge of our box, and we concede the penalty.
All avoidable, if we take a few seconds to move players into position to allow us to take a clearing kick from the throw-in.
Liverpool engage the services of a throw-in coach, from Denmark.
He works with a number of clubs, ( but only one in each league)
He works on technique, but more importantly, he works on situational positioning for taking and defending this important set piece.
Celtic see the throw-in as nothing other than a means of getting the ball back in play.
I am bewildered that we have never addressed this deficiency.
Small margins.
Still happy.

Yes when KYOGO Scored so early, I am thinking ” Cmon the wee man, you have another 86 minutes to score a 2nd Goal” ?
However, I did back the Correct Score of 2 – 2 at odds of 14/1, aside with a couple of other Scores of 3 – 1 and 3-2 to Celtic.
I also had KYOGO to Score FIRST, and Celtic to win 3 – 2 at odds of 135/1….I thought wee JAMESY was gonna grab the winner near the end, but he was off balance and scooped the ball over the the bar ?
I also had the earlier Correct score of FENEYOORD to beat Lazio by 3 – 1 at odds of 12/1, and BAYERN to win 3 – 1 on Tuesday night at odds of 10/1 ( I Think ? )
LOL
I HATED Athletiico back in 1974….I STILL hate them NOW !

Some girnin´ posters on here after the match last night, complaining that they are not allowed to express their political opinions on here. Where have they been the last 20 years? Everything under the sun has been discussed on CQN. Show me any decemt debate after a Scotsman or Glasgow Herald piece during those years. CQN has debated things that no other forums in Scotland would allow. However when you begin to see people using their posts to make political points then that is a time to take stock and not allow this site to be taken over by politics. Of course life and death is more important than football and those posters should find blogs which deal with those issues if they feel so strongly about them

Good post, can’t disagree with most of it, especially the throw-ins. BR changed the way we took them the first time he was here, one of the midfield players made themselves available quite a bit away from the taker, it worked a treat. Perhaps they’ll look at them now that they’ve straightened out the passing and movement off the ball :)) which now seems well down the road!
But to highlight the throw-in and other deficiencies and not mention the quality of the 2 goals and the play leading up to them makes the post quite lopsided. However, a good post, Hail! Hail! por cierto

So let’s see if I’ve got this right. There seems to have been a lack of negative posters following our brilliant performance at Tynecastle on Sunday. All good and yet one hour before a ball is kicked last night instead of talking about the team and the actual match, the best you can come up with is that negative posters will be posting negative comments from the first live updates page.
Jeezo, you don’t like your fellow Celtic fans very much. You’re speciality seems to be sniping at any Celtic fan who dares to criticise anything about the Club.
Brilliant night at Celtic Park. I wasn’t expecting to get anything from the game but was hoping that we would give a good account of ourself and that we would see a further improvement from our last two performances in the competition. What a performance from Celtic, especially in the first half. We almost blew them away. I thought we used the full width of the pitch very well and moved their players all over the place. Our movement and passing was brilliant and our diagonal passes into the box were absolutely superb. I just wish the excellent Matt O’Riley’s shot had beaten the goalie to make it 3-1. Thems the breaks.
I thought we tired around 60 minutes and we didn’t really have the desired quality on the bench to make the necessary changes to freshen up the team the way that Athletico did with their half time changes. We should be looking to address this in the next couple of windows. So many positives to take from the game though. We played with composure and confidence and attacked and defended well. We are scoring good goals from moves which cut teams open. We seem to have a big game player in Palma who has a goal threat. Our young players are showing maturity. Liam Scales was excellent yet again. Almost like having signed a new player. The fans were rocking the stadium again like old times. However, the main thing for me is that we are now playing like a Champions League team. Many fans used to say we are a Europa League team. I have always believed we should be a top level club. We are now proving that the Champions League is where we belong. Well done to our excellent manager Brendan Rodgers and the team.
