3 pundits – all Italians – were asked for their score predictions.

    Pundit 1 – 5-1 to Barcelona;

    Pundit 2 4-0 to Barcelona;

    Pundit 3 3-0 to Barcelona.

  3. Jinky was my hero on

Working in London this week and just watched the game in hotel bar, what a feeling!! well done Bhoys a performance to be proud of. Neil lennon has developed into the manager I said he would, check back on my comments after some people were calling for his head over a year ago.

Big Victor a Superstar in the making, just hope he stays a little while longer than this season, we have the makings of a great young team, who knows what lies ahead, to all my fellow brothers and sisters in Celtic enjoy the night and bask in the glory of supporting the greatest team which you have in your DNA.

    Hail Hail

  5. Well Folks,

It’s been many years since I’ve spent less time on the blog. Haven’t been reading or contributing, It was necessary to stave off divorce, as I promised the Mrs I would be more attentive after the demise of the forces of darkness.

I see the mini Huns are for the chop tonight as well. What a day!!

Had to make a few quick points tonight though.

I was in the Nou Camp when we got the draw over ten years ago now.

Barca spent £80m that summer and never looked back. Until now :))

Big Vic Wanyama. As close to the real deal as I’ve seen at paradise for many, many years.

Fraser Forster? Well, Alan Pardew has a fantastic eye for a player, eh?

Efe Ambrose? Somebody give those scouts a bonus!

Tony Watt? That boy will never make it. He lacks pace, composure and a clinical eye for goal:))))

Overall? In context of both games, easily the most consistently first class performances in living memory. Truly the most breathtaking game in my lifetime.

Just ecstatic. There were many times I thought this sort of result was way beyond us. There were many times in the last number of years that it was!

    11% possession. 955 passes to 166.

But Xavi was invisible. Messi was nullified. Iniesta was inefective.

What a club. What a squad. Seven first team players injured and we spanked the best team on the planet. Rod Stewart greeted like a wean. So did I.

Més que un club? Absolutely. Just not the club you thought you were talking about!!

Legends were forged tonight in the incredible, blistering foundry of Paradise. It will be to my eternal regret I wasn’t there to see it in person.

But when I’m old and telling my grandkids all about it, don’t worry,I was there. Front and centre. Along with the other 500.000 in the crowd tonight! Or didn’t you notice?

    Manificent.

    Yogi

  6. Marrakesh Express on

A good keeper is as important as a 30 goal striker. No matter how heroic the performance it would have meant nothing without Forster’s display.

  7. Not a regular poster but I feel that tonight is so special that I can,t let it pass without comment .

I watched the game on Sky with my family and I feel priviliged to have done this, obviously because they are my family but also because we shared something special. The only thing missing was my old man but I know he was there as he always is.

I am not a regular at Celtic Park nowadays, neither are any of my family but Christ I felt something out of the ordinary tonight.

The display prior to the game was worthy of a victory so to whoever put the time, effort and love in to make it happen, you are as much a part of it tonight as as Vic Wanyama ,Tony Watt and the others on the pitch.

This result will do so much to lift Celtic fans around the world but think it will be met in other quarters of the world with delight by people who may not be Celtic Minded but can see the result and the occasion for what it is, a celebration of all that is good in football.

Tonight only serves to remind us all of where we have come from, where we have been and where we want to go, we have done and can continue to do these things with a clear conscience and a song in our hearts.

Remeber the good times and the bad times, the good times make the bad times bearable, and the bad times make the good times even better, both of them make us the special people we are.

God bless you all on this wonderful evening.

  8. Just sittin here thinkin……

possibly the best part of this day …..might just be tomorrow…….

Once reality dawns that …..we just pumped Barcelona…….

shock and awe! seriously! We did actually just pump Barcelona !

    BUT !

(feels like Kojo typin this stuff)

I need to get this off my chest (Sorrreeeee)

Brother Walfrid said ” A football club will be formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed.”

Did Dermot Desmond say ” A donation will be made for £35K for a mosaic to be made and transported to St Mary’s (Calton)from the middle east so that we can all feel wonderfull while the Calton carries on regardless ” ?

Not in so many words but………..seriously….wtf?

    Anyway

    What a night!

    Love

    Des

    buzzin’

    regardless

  9. I go to my Mother’s grave at least once a year at Easter. My eldest brother John is buried with her. They are beside the Republican plot in Milltown cemetery. Because so many many of my friends are there I find it very very hard. He was the finest man I’ve known. His first love was Belfast Celtic, and the their brothers in Glasgow. He gave me a love of Chesterton and Belloc, and a love of Shakespeare through taking me to plays and introducing me to the sonnets. I am a Republican through and through, not through propaganda or cant, but because I believe a Republic to be the best government for the common man—ref Germany. I am a latecomer to the Celtic cause. Ten years now. I grew up a Man Utd supporter from the time it was possible to get in at the turnstile for 5 bob. That team and those ethics have gone. I came to Celtic because of the fervour behind MON at the time. I didn’t really “get it” as such. WGS, who I predicted would be a success to my Celtic mad mates, concreted my observation of Scottish football by his distain for the “pundits”. I didn’t know about BTM, but his teams played some lovely football and were kicked off the park. His treatment by the MSM in Scotland was shameful. We know now that there was never a chance of the SPL for Celtic in the past 4 years. Rangers needed the money. Screw the rest. They didn’t reckon on NFL. First match against Der Hun–victory. Bombs, bullets, attacks, vitriol from referees and the MSM–stick it. It all led to tonight and Barca. That result was not a fluke, and a draw in the Nue Camp was deserved. NFL was always a man. We are watching a team growing with him. My brother John will be smiling tonight. His wee brother is tearful and ecstatic.

  10. I was well angry when I heard the Barcelona manager state that if they win the game at Parkhead then they could relax a bit and possibly play some of their players who hadn’t had game time, or even some of their ‘B’ team in the remaining games against Benfica and Spartak. At first I thought what arrogance and then I mellowed to think well that is his prerogative and no doubt, in his shoes, Neil Lennon would do similar. Then I thought… Nah! Arrogant git.

Anyway it is academic now; now Barcelona still need points to guarantee progress, so their ‘B’ team hopefuls will have to empathise a little of every Tims birth millstone, at least one game more.

Some people still don’t credit what Celtic achieved. Celtic beat, what many pundits acclaim as the best ever Barcelona team. They simply put the ball in the back of the net twice to their once and we never depended on the referee to ensure that we finished the game with eleven men on the park.

That Barcelona team is a dream… the best ever Barcelona eleven (not forgetting that they were minus Carles Puyol). What a joy for every football fan around the world. But then I can’t help thinking to myself – if that was Barcelona’s best ever – how would they have fared against our best eleven ever – the Lisbon Lions (not forgetting that we were minus Joe McBride). We are a much vaunted team but in our production we are at the humble end of commercial hype, TV assistance, official popularity, and world record bank overdrafts.

I watched the game this morning on ESPN in the Brisbane Mall with eleven other Apostles of hope. I watched it again this evening on Celtic TV. It was like I was watching a different game. Celtic TV did not smother the crowd noise in preference to the inanities voiced by the ESPN commentators. The networks just don’t get it, the show is about the game and the crowd not wind bags with brain wind. Bottom line… Celtic TV – for sheer enjoyment factor – is ten times the value of satellite shows.

Auldheid, with that performance we just took one more step up the crooked ladder.

I hope the Celtic players enjoyed their night and I think Barcelona can count themselves lucky not to have been introduced to Dylan McGeoch; He and Tony Watt, both on the park at that stage, might just have tore them, a few jaundiced pundits’ and a few prejudiced hacks too, a bigger dose of humility.

The Celtic players, and the crowd at the game, know how to make life abroad a heartache at times.

It is Kano’s birthday on the 15th of December, I’ll need to remember to send him a card. Four years now, almost to the day, he hasn’t moved. I’ll send you his address MWD and anybody else who wished to drop him a card come his day.

  13. Neill Lennon on Talksport.

Already had Henrik on this morning.

They have a few others coming on apparently.

  14. Shieldmuir Celtic on

Well done Bhoys!Every one of you was a hero last night as was our manager. I think he used the Morinho system of zonal marking -no chasing the ball ;no chasing the opponents; keep your shape above all .- and it worked – helped by a fantastic support for the whole game.

  15. Official UEFA stats give Fraser an assist for Tony`s goal.

An absolutely fantastic achievement last night.

The world today is Green and White
