  1. We did win, no?

We’re a different team with CCV in it. Much more confident defending a lead. Trusty looks a much better player with him beside him.

    Pretty comfortable at the end

First competitive starts for our two summer signings. We’ll get better

  3. What a boring game of football,

WE still look like a team thats not coached, some individual brilliance, but no cohesion,

Sinsalos distribution is shocking, great save at the end but we need a quality keeper as a priority

Did Dundee have league cup qualifying games ? They looked like they had a few more competitive games under their belt than us .

  6. Pleased to hear the FT whistle after a rusty performance which is not unexpected but that nonetheless had we won 4 zip on chances and opening created wouldn’t have flattered us.

A little disappointed we looked so similar to last season after a full preseason. In terms of shape I think 433 is stinking the place out and very predictable – we have to have variety in shape and patterns of play and be able to move between them otherwise what are we doing at training all week?

  7. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

I’m happy with that. Decent start to blow the cobwebs off. Should’ve scored 3 or 4. That will come. The worry is if AJ, Engels and possibly others go.

  8. We need to sign a holding Mid,let Calmac do what he does best.We need a playmaker for the strikers.Doran is striker, not a winger, sign a winger.

Not one Clapper had an opinion on tonights game.

” 3 points, that will do’ Forget about the CL,we beat Dundee. Not an opinion on what we can do better.

Dont want to put pressure on their idols in the boardroom. No comments.

Look at where his goals in the CL came last season. Might explain why his price and why hes at Celtic.

    Thank you, Celtic.

The older I get, the more difficult I find it gets to watch. The nerves can’t cope.

  15. Heard MON on radio shortbread there, asked about cover for Tierney he said there are boys in the academy he could use. Fuck off

  16. What I heard MON say was that the boys in the Academy were very good players but, as yet, where too young for a first team role.

Daily wretched reporting ‘sack the board’ chants tonight . Can anyone at the game confirm ? Certainly didn’t hear them on tv .

You look like another dual poster,if it’s my turn for a wee pile on,fill yer boots, trying to work out where I have been negative tonight, keep shooting and reloading

  27. Well that was 100mph and rather lacking in composite from both teams, but ultimately we were the width of a goalpost from being top of the SPL on week 1.

Do bear in mind that Dundee have already played 4 or 5 relatively untaxing games in the league cup, bagging plenty of goals in the process, so they are more up to speed than Celtic’s players, who were playing their first competitive match of the season.

We also had our new centre forward playing up front after barely one training session, and you could see that the understanding and connection with his new teammates isn’t there yet, with a number of flicks and quick passes from Duran and others catching him unawares. I’m sure he’ll be more tuned in when he’s actually had time to unpack his suitcase and has the benefit of a few more team training sessions under his belt.

As for Tounekti’s skied effort, those of us who have played on grass pitches will surely understand that if the ball flicks up 2 or 3 inches off a bit of cut up turf (it was around the 89th minute, after all), causing the top of your foot rather than the sweet spot to make contact with the ball, it can fly off into row Z rather than the top corner. This is less likely to happen on a nice smooth plastic pitch, but our opinions on those are well documented.

So, it’s early days, but after the first week of the season we have 3 times as many points on the board as the Huns and Minis combined, and a 100% clean sheet record. The other end of the pitch will improve as the new players become more familiar and settled into their new team and new accommodation in a new country and get used to new training methods and expectations, etc. Keep the faith.

I wonder how Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton are feeling, looking at the SPL table tonight. They both predicted St.M and St.J to be the bottom two teams this season! Obviously they could still be right, but it’s quite funny that they are currently the top two. 😇😇

The clapping Brigade, happy with that performance.Just WTF are they watching. That performance tonight wont get us through the CL,against a much better team than DundeiIf

If AJ and Engels go ,we need ready maede replacements.Stop talking shit.

I really give up with these Nicholson fan boys.

    ===========

Whenever I post Ffs after the umpteenth failure to trap the ball, a three yard pass or

make a backward pass when a forward one is on if only somebody would only yell “Naebidy near ye Callum/Arne/Yang” then you can tell I am no happy clapper.

I thought some of the Dundee players showed better quality than we did on occasions.

  29. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good evening CQN.

What a privilege to be a Celt.

Just in from the game, cuppa in hand, and looking forward to read back.

    Not bad tonight.

Bit slow first half, picked up second.

There was a 10 minute spell during which it looked like we were going to get more goals … but we faded.

Two new guys quiet but did fine.

Nygren & AJ were best for me.

    Callum and Kieran good.

    A few negatives.

Yang worked hard but his touch was poor, Engels decision making a bit iffy.

Rebels in the corner lasted 71 minutes of the first game of the season before singing sack the board.

    Way to go lads

Performance typical of many last year.

if AJ leaves he will be a huge loss. As a minimum need him for CL qualifiers,

    Engels mmmm …

Need reinforcements now esp wingers as KT was the biggest danger from the wings.

CL qualifier is a 50/50 tie.

Desmond has clearly told execs, clear the deadwood. Sell players before you buy and don’t touch the £100M. Don’t phone me, I will call you when it suits me. Remember don’t touch my £100M — sell first.

Why would DD give that instruction? The cash reported is in Celtic’s bank account. DD stands to gain a lot more through increased share value so why not spend more than in the past to improve share value?

There are lots of reasons why recruitment takes time an DD yelling don’t spend for his personal benefit is one of many.

In any case he does not have to set spending limits, UEFA do that.

What he will be looking for is value for money for Celtic’s benefit, which is hard to find in football’s wage inflated market with agents pumping up the wage inflation balloon..

    👍

On the telly I thought they looked sharper than us at the start but we looked much fitter than them after half time which is promising.

Our World Cup players looked like they were fully up to speed – great for now and the first few months of the season, not so great in February and March

    Match 1: Celtic 1 – Chairboy & Chums 0 👍

  34. Thought we were poor tonight, if Kasper is a a box player then get him up the park and forget this 11 players in our box at their corners , we are very laboured getting up the pitch following any opposition corners, the number of times we play the ball back and sideways is boring, what’s happened to our swashbuckling attacking football, we have players that only want to play the ball the way they are facing, we need to improve

  35. ADVERTISEMENT
  36. RC: “we have players that only want to play the ball the way they are facing”

That certainly wasn’t true of Duran tonight.

Auldheid (11.05), we could’ve done a lot worse than get Saracchi in to play LB (sadly that ship has now sailed) and utilise KT as a left winger. KT actually gets past the opposing defenders more often than Tounekti AND delivers higher quality crosses and passes into the danger area. Were there not so many other priorities at this time I’d be looking to replace Tounekti and (on tonight’s performance) Yang (albeit he was played on the “wrong” side tonight). We need wingers who find a teammate and/or can go past defenders with the ball more often than not.

It was load and clear from the two ultra groups beside me. Used the I wanna be Edward tune.

  38. RC, I thought Engels was actually trying too hard tonight to show potential suitors what he can do. He appeared desperate to be involved in everything but didn’t always make the right decision. His reverse pass to KT under heavy pressure from several defenders on the edge of the Dundee box was, dare I say, almost Messiesque! Cut him some slack… 🤷
