I will probably never see Australia. The Aus wildlife has never appealed to me. I like home made mince n totties. Wee Reynard is good at procreating. Many foxes to feed. Thankfully we are a throwaway food culture. Good for the Dalmuir Reynard Family.

  2. 3-5-2 would have won that game. Poor team selection and a few poor performances. Sinclair needs to be benched – I can see him coming off the bench and score. He seems to be trying too hard. Armstrong, his touch lets him down too many times for a midfielder. Mcgregor , takes too many touches when playing left back.

no cutting edge and for some reason we didn’t use the quality we had on the bench.

The very last word should read upwards.

Tonight was turgid fare, but we are not going backwards. Maybe stuttering forwards.

  5. DD, I know my friend. It was a play on a word. There is a huge hatred of this stupid messing around at the back. Do you remember in the past when there was a bit of shuffling about with the defenders and MFs ? But we al bought into building from the back concept. Rightly so, it worked.

But now it’s different. It seems an aim in itself! Remember al the runs up the side with KT & SS which were so fruitful? The other side with ML & JF & PR ? The things going in the middle with countless players? Whats happened. And its not one match! Everybody knows it. Brendan Rodgers needs a holiday to go and have a long think about what he has changed in 12 months.

  6. BTW, I do not for one second the players. It cannot be affecting a whole squad by coincidence. Its not tiredness, game time etc. Its tactics.

The great Celtic I truly remember defenders were from my 7 year old onwards days. I loved Billy McNeil (obviously), George Connelly and later Pat Stanton. Would have loved to have seen those 3 together in a 70s Celtic defence.

  8. DD, George Connelly. I heard so many wonderful stories about him. I think he was from Fife? Probably one of the greatest players we ever had.

BTW, remember you were telling me that Marcus was your nephew? Well!

My Grannie’s cousin was Jimmy McGrory. Ha Ha !

I’ll tell you my story tomorrow about when I met him. I’m too tired now. God Bless DD.

    —————————————————————————————————————————————————–

It might be the players in the sense that they’re not as good as they are hyped up to be. All of the teams in the SPFL would struggle in the third tier of English football and we have struggled to beat most of them this season. If it was the odd game, it could be ignored but last night’s performance is now the norm. We were told that the team would come back from Dubai refreshed and firing on all cylinders. Look how that’s worked out. The club is taking the piss increasing the price of season tickets when the product on the park is rapidly deteriorating. Time for a complete rethink about how good this squad of players really is.

  12. Can’t get too downhearted about the performance and result last night. Seen them many times before under every single manager and with some of our greatest ever players.

A stubborn, well organised defence coupled with collective team and individually poor choices as well as atrocious shooting happens.

I didn’t like the choice of subs and who they replaced.

There is no formula that works every time for breaking down teams and if we don’t score early we seem to suffer form having too much of the ball. But surely Paddy or Charlie offer a good alternative.

Also, Dembele, Giff and Sinclair could all be seen to be making runs in behind that needs a midfielder with vision and skill to deliver at the right time with the right weight.

    Who is that player?

  13. 50 shades of green on

Well I didnae really enjoy that last night if I’m honest.

I dont mind the passing about at the back, but after 75/80 mins and its still nil nil perhaps another approach might just fair better.

The 3 subs at the one time , I thought the players going off was fine, but with Charly and Paddy on the bench I felt that perhaps their individual skills in beating a tight defence might just have helped, although the 3 boys that came on done pretty well I thought.

Still I chose to go to watch the team my wee da brought me up to support rather than be a cardboard fan and piss off to the pub to watch a game from some other tourney, I know folk will have various reasons for non attendance but watching other games ain’t one, yet Cardboard fans..

I kept a close look on Caulker and like others have said, he was just ok. An ok performance was maybe pretty good last night, amongst several dire ones. Not the kind of game to warm you up on a freezing night.

  15. “WHITEDOGHUNCH on 5TH APRIL 2018 7:54 AM

good to see some zip in our play last night

    Dundee played well”

Seems you and I are lone voices in holding that opinion. I thought Dundee were very good.

I also thought Boyata had a mistake free night and did much that was very good. I didn`t hear any praise for him at the ground, though.

I am regularly told that people are entitled to their opinion ie they have no evidence to support their claims. Fair enough but maybe if they began by saying that they know more than our professional manager about football and that is why they are so adamant in expressing their views they would realise the possibility that their opinions might be wrong.

    Cheerio for now.

If rat face can get 2 million for him he should take it, he was okay, but looked one footed and not particularly quick, bloody big though.

Still only 8pts needed to be champions for the 7th consecutive season:-))))

Supersutton – “poor choices”, the Bhoy who sits behind me was screaming about this throughout the game last night ( and accepting Calum McGregor is not a left back, my biggest frustration with him is that exact statement, ( not talking about last night))

I put up last night – in the 25 mins Olivier Ntcham was on, he made the best 3 positive passes of the game

I like Tom Rogic, his touch and body position taking a pass creates so much room for him, but on last night, I think we needed a PR to create from the number 10 position – or far more positive play from a right wing position ( James Forrest had the beating of the Dundee left back all game – poor choices ? Stopped our momentum to often)

Not seen enough of Charly Musonda to know if he is the player at No.10 we need

    Hail Hail

    And

  19. Now that the dust has settled, on reflection, I don’t think last night was as bad as it’s being painted. I can see why some people, especially those who made the effort to go to the game, were frustrated and disappointed. When you sit in the freezing cold for almost 2 hours, see the team dominate, but create very few clear cut chances, it’s disheartening. We’ve all been there…..and we’ll all be there again. No doubt about that.

Some of our play last night was very good, with some good interplay and movement, and with a little bit of luck, could have won the game handsomely. I’ve sat through worse performances than last night’s at Celtic Park this season.

To their credit, Dundee defended well, and stuck to a game plan designed to frustrate us – something other teams have learned to do.

I was disappointed with the substitutions. When you put 3 players on at the same time, it gives no further options to change things, other than reposition some players, and it also leaves you at the mercy of a bad tackle or an unfortunate injury, both of which we’ve seen often enough this season.

I suspect we won’t be seeing PR7 back next season though. Keeping him benched in a game that cried out for his magic won’t persuade him to choose us instead of the mega wages he’ll get at some of the EPL cannon-fodder.

Pity, because I think he could have become a huge player for us if he knew he was here for 2, 3 or 4 seasons.

  20. CRC, my memory may not be what it once was, but my recollection is that we were cheated (again) v Ross County in the League Cup, and as for the Scottish Cup, PR missed an open goal. Can hardly blame RD for these. Europa League, well, ok! Get in touch re Dundee any time. HH

  21. Patrick Roberts looked out of sorts on Saturday when he came on, perhaps this is why he didn’t feature last night.

  22. Only one of Brendan’s signings started the game last night, Hendry.

DDv, Compper, Roberts, Nitcham, Mousanda, Kouassi, Edouarde didny.

    What’s the point Brendan?

    Seriously.

  23. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Brendan signs the players Brendan trains the players Brendan picks the team so here is a question in light of Celtics many draws this season is Brendan getting stale ? So often he changes the team from one game to another and so often in my opinion his substitutions are strange to say the least. Now in his first season he played a pressing game which worked well he took teams by surprise and the players appeared to enjoy the games this season there is a lack of the pressing game and some players appear to have lost there mojo other teams are now prepared to face us usually with a packed defence and Brendan appears unable to put a team on the park which is able to break down stubborn defences I dont know what the answer is but I feel Brendan needs to have a good think about his tactics and his constant tinkering with the team and also how best to use his personel. For me the team has stalled none of the new players has made a big difference with some now hardly getting a first team game we will win the league this season but we have to sort out our tactics for next season. H.H.

  24. last nights game (and i was there with my son) was dire and we were rank, no ifs no buts no sugar coating.

Whats happened to the fluent forward movement high tempo style? are these players up to it.

If we are going to play 3 at the back play with that, don’t play a midfielder at left back, ML is done ,finished as a right wing back we get nothing with him playing there , why was AR allowed to go on loan? I could go on and on but i will probably get shot down for my negative comments and don’t get me started on last nights sub’s , but is hard to positive after last night.

  25. Not for the first time this season I’ve anticipated a poor performance on seeing the team selection.

The Killie game was one although injuries and the surface played a part but there have been others, usually against teams we would expect to beat.

I had same feeling last night.

So there must be some reasons for those selections.

Apart from Ajer, who might be being kept for the artificial surface at Hamilton (he played on Killies for a season and Boyata’s dislike for same surface) , perhaps its about keeping the players happy by making changes to give the squad a game?

Had he started with the 3 subs would anyone have really wondered why?

We are at home, have a clear points lead and are unlikely to lose – we didn’t- but we were anything but fluid.

I put that down to constant change whether it is caused by injury or keeping players involved.

Whatever the reason (and I’m looking for reason not making an excuse) its not entertaining and even had we scored late on last night when Henry had a good chance , not many would have felt we were entertained.

BATEEN BHOY on 5TH APRIL 2018 9:59 AM

Good to see reality on here; some of the drivel I have read on a number of Celtic sites is unbelievable (IMHO). The article James Forrest did was pathetic as were the comments after it. Read it if you want to see how fickle the Celtic support is!

For those who say it’s worse than the last days of Ronny’s reign, that’s absolute rubbish (IMHO). We were spoiled by an invincible season last time (with some games of a very similar nature to last night) but that seems to be forgotten.

It wasn’t the best of nights but there were still some positives:

26 shots at goal with 7 on target

    11 corners.

Add to that 20 fouls against us really breaks up the game – thats a foul every 4.5 minutes; the game plan from Dundee was executed well. Defend in depth and break the play up with plenty of fouls well away from the box to disrupt the flow of the game and it worked. Apart from the physical approach, every time Forrest or Sinclair had the ball they had at least 2 (more often 3) players covering them. That isn’t easy to break down.

The first 20 minutes or so was played at Avery good tempo with some very good interplay and we got a few chances which were not taken. As AULDHEID said last night, an early chance going in makes a massive difference! Their keeper had a couple of very good saves early on.

Noticeably this season teams are far more agricultural against us this season and are getting away with it; they are also coming with a very definite shape and game plan which many are executing well.

It’s another point on the board and another step closer to the 7th league title. We roll the juggernaut into Hamilton on Sunday only 10 points clear at the top of the league. We need 8 points from 18 available to win the league – only 6 if we beat Aberdeen. Sevco are an irrelevance in terms of winning the league. Give us Aberdeen at home for the first post-split fixture and we can win it against them.

  27. Could write out a long post about this and that. But what else is there to say, we are dreadful. Absolutely dreadful. It’s the Managers fault, the players are more than capable. What is Brendan going to do about it? Is he stubborn or out of ideas? Time will tell.

  28. VFR,

Couldn’t agree more with your post.

I thought McGregor particularly for the first 20/25 minutes played through some excellent passes. Sinclair sometimes didn’t read them; sometimes was caught offside.

Dundee were allowed to foul us, especially Dembele (how many times in the first 20 minutes did a Dundee player tap his ankles and get away with it?) and Armstrong, who was huckled badly twice. How did the number 21 stay on the park?

We were poor but I am sure in part it was because of the refereeing we were subjected to.

  29. patmcgrathtakesapenalty on

We’re finished, done for, as good as dead and buried. There’s no point in going on, no Easter light shines in our lives. All is dark.
