Celtic v Dundee United

663

Under different circumstances, we would applaud, or stand in silence, to mark the passing of Jim McLean, the former Dundee United manager, who died on Boxing Day.  McLean’s achievements in the Scottish game are eclipsed by few, perhaps only Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson.  His team United the country with wins on the European stage that could scarcely be dreamed of now.

During his term, United received an accolade from Uefa ahead of a Celtic game.  Post-match, he spoke warmly of the Celtic support, a generous moment.  I am glad United visit Celtic Park to mark his passing today, it is just a pity we are not all there to share it.

I honestly think Lenny needs to go into the transfer window in January for a Centre Half with pace ,unfortunately Julien nor Duffy are blessed with pace ,also Bitton is slow ,but will Lennon go after one ,has Gallagher at got that,I think he is ok ,so what do you other supporters think.

Declan Gallagher, when I saw him playing for Scotland I assumed he was from the English Championship, quite shocked when I was told he was a Motherwell player, worth considering, then there is Jack Hendry out on loan somewhere (?) He can only get better.

  2. Laxalt for me on Saturday… A real top-notch player who will thrive on it.

Ajer at RB and a 442 formation and we’ll be fine.

Broony will come on at 70 mins regardless of the score.

    Accies-3-0

    D.Utd – 3-0

    Sevco-3-0

The games against Barton, Halliday, Morelos etc and winding them up are over… We will beat them by having better players and a better team.

  3. Strong performance, very pleased with the number of chances created, our pressing and the way we moved the ball about. We showed desire and hunger all over the pitch to win the ball back and commit bodies forward. The ball is rolling in terms of results and now the performances are starting to come together, another positive result is needed on Saturday and then there is no reason why we cant power into the second half of this season. All to play for.

I thought jullien was really slow in the chase when he got injured. Right back required also. Would be best with Ajer at RB against the huns, but that now looks unlikely. Also unlikely that we will play Duffy, so defensive recruits are a must.

Soro was excellent today and we were great going forward. Saturday is a must not lose. If we win it, I think we might see a wobble from them thereafter.

BTW, one thing about Jack Hendry, he is very quick.

  5. Collum is a wee cheating Rat bar steward, difference me mollicated DUFC and he could not have any influence.

Bring on th zombie hun feckwits.

    Yeez are deed.

Turnbull is a player by the way. The flick over the top is Brazilianesq

    D :)

  6. I have never really been a fan of Bitton but his calm and controlled play is in stark contrast to the nervous, awkward play of Julien and Duffy and I was actually pleased to see him coming on when Julien was injured. He kept the ball well and pretty well strolled through the game during his spell on the park. Interesting to note that Lenny chose to put him as sub in preference to Duffy.

  7. the issue with Bitton is that he has a tendency to wander out of his central position and get caught out wide or forward ,not centre back material.

  8. Good win today by all accounts and momentum continues and new impetus since Soro and Turnbull’s introduction to the team. The rebirth of The Griff, who in my humble opinion when on form is actually a more lethal penalty box goalador than French Eddie and thank goodness he no longer is wasted having to take corner kicks and can be prowling the box at the set piece.

We are in a good place for Saturday.

  9. I think Brown will return for Ibrox….hence him being rested today.

Would really like to see how they fare with Turnbull and Soro in there though. Midfield is where they’ve been outdoing us and that’s where we need the change.

I’m a bit more confident of going there than I was a few weeks ago…but only if we go with today’s midfield and front two.

    LOL

I’m not really as negative as folk think, honestly!

    You too pal!

  11. nervous, awkward play of Julien and Duffy , agree and you can add Ajer to that list when he’s playing centre back.

  12. RC… I note you think all our centre halfs are rubbish (well you say it often enough).. You think julien was rubbish last season?.. League Cup final… Lazio.. He had numerous MOM performces!.. Ibrox 2-0…him and Bitton were superb…. But see if you say something often enough….. You actually start to believe it..

  13. 1 RC on 30TH DECEMBER 2020 5:18 PM

urgently required 2 central defenders , Julien is hopeless and I thought Duffy was slow until I watched Julien being outpaced today.

    2RC on 30TH DECEMBER 2020 5:42 PM

julien , Ajer, Bitton and Duffy honestly we don’t have any centre backs of note , we could select any 2 from that 4 and defend as poorly with any pairing ,no positional sense, no pace, can’t defend set pieces , we require 2 centre backs pronto.

    3RC on 30TH DECEMBER 2020 5:45 PM

oh and what has happened to Eddy, watched his goals and movement during the half time break , not the same player this season

Easy does it.i detect a note of panic.

1.would you like a new central defensive partnership for saturday ? Ie straight in.who? Surely you could suuggest 1 even.

2.irony.how mamy havw we conceded? Why unsettle a tight defence?

3.i think Eddys lob from griffs lob put the cap on his recovery from covid.

Your usually quite rational in your posting rc,

    Hope your good :-)

  14. RC… Very good… Not at the games I attended… Including Rome…. As I said… Numerous MOM performces…

  15. Great result today and an ok performance. I thought defensively we were exposed a lot and there are too many careless passes. A better team would have scored against us today. Our midfield will need to sit closer to the defense on Saturday and not allow all the space we did today. After we went 3 up I thought we played much better. The pace and composure looked better.

I think Neil will start Broony on Saturday. He’ll be brave if he doesn’t. It’s going to be a much more physical game. We can’t play Frimpong and Soro together against a big powerful team or they’ll be targeted. Ryan still looks off the pace.

Good to see goals from midfield and great finish from Eddy.

yes,I have my central defensive concerns for sat.

1.would you like a new central defensive partnership for saturday ? Ie straight in.who? Surely you could suuggest 1 even.

as I have been often told , you can only pee with the c*** you’ve got , to late in the day for sat , so we will have to select from what we have ,sadly.

2.irony.how mamy havw we conceded? Why unsettle a tight defence?

we will be playing a different beast on sat and a step up from Ross County and Accies and the likes who only play with 1 up top

3.i think Eddys lob from griffs lob put the cap on his recovery from covid.

not so sure, he looks clumsy when running at pace with the ball not under control, weak shooting lately straight at keeper when looks easier to score.

Your usually quite rational in your posting rc,

  17. Big decision awaits Lenny for the central defensive positions for Saturday. Julienn definitely starts if fit and possibly Duffy and with young Turnbull’s inch perfect deliveries from set piece will add additional scoring opportunities.

  18. My friends in Celtic,

From a Celtic football perspective we go into 2021 in decent shape.

We look as if we are enjoying our time on the park and without doubt the virtual supporters are enjoying it again. Smiles are evident, woohoo.

Will we win the league, truthfully it’s possible but doubtful. The huns keep winning.

However as a support we are broadly united and have come to terms with our league position. We prepare for the future now and if the league comes what a wonderful bonus it will be. However change is inevitable it is a natural progression.

No matter what happens, we have made history again. While others read about history we make it.

HH to all, the journey continues.

  19. Soro, Brown, Cal mac and Turnbull for Saturday

Eddie and Griff up front, drop Christie.

really hoping the blog is still full of happy posters on Saturday night 🙂

  21. CRC ( Marc ) if you are lurking.

By the time I read the multitude of Celtic books I have received, I should be a quiz genius.

    Bring back the quiz.

    Cheers and HH.

some good points made there, we definitely need pace at the back, hopefully we are monitoring Jack Hendry.

  23. If we play a central defence of Julien (assuming he is fit) and Duffy v Sevco we will be sliced open I’m afraid.

  24. If Lenny decides to include Shane Duffy in Saturday’s team I would love to see him putting one over on Goldson his old teamate at Brighton after their last confrontation at Celtic Park . Shane owes him one.

  25. ROCK TREE BHOY-and to you buddy.

I think a lot are already resigned to getting beat.So hopefully when we pump them this place will be absolutely delightful 😉🍀👍

  26. Great three points today, should have been more than three but a wins a win at the end of the day.

On to the game at the bigot dome now, if Lenny starts with Broonie we will lose, IMO that is a given, so he has a big big call to make.

  27. half the battle/problem is that whatever pairing we play at centre back that’s if we go 4 at the back is that they are always too far apart trying to cover for our 2 flying wing backs come full backs instead of playing within the 18 yard box width and trying to make long sideways passing between them and as soon as a opposing forward gets anywhere near them panic sets in and their correct decision making gets lost , usually ends up with either of them making a poor pass or a needless/ pointless foul
