Celtic v Dundee United

663

Under different circumstances, we would applaud, or stand in silence, to mark the passing of Jim McLean, the former Dundee United manager, who died on Boxing Day.  McLean’s achievements in the Scottish game are eclipsed by few, perhaps only Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson.  His team United the country with wins on the European stage that could scarcely be dreamed of now.

During his term, United received an accolade from Uefa ahead of a Celtic game.  Post-match, he spoke warmly of the Celtic support, a generous moment.  I am glad United visit Celtic Park to mark his passing today, it is just a pity we are not all there to share it.

  1. From the age of 23, Laxalt has played something like 25 games in the last four years for Uruguay.

Uruguay are ranked the 8th best team in the World.

He played at the World Cup in the team that beat Russia 3-0 and Portugal 2-1

Milan paid 14 million for him as a back up player but, nevertheless, he has still played well over 100 Serie A games for Milan or out on loan.

But there are guys on here who say he offers nothing. Really?

  2. In soro I trust

and yes, I get it paul67 that one player doesn’t transform a club’s fortunes but it’s his impact on breaking down the oppo’s attacks and his stabilising effect on our confused defence that is beyond important to us now

Think the manager will start with Brown on Saturday. Still think we need real right and left backs though…

    Ajer and Taylor for me.

  5. Does anyone know who scouted Ismaila Soro?

He is quickly convincing me that he can become a player of genuine quality. He reads the game well and goes about his business with an intelligence that is rare for a young player who is still short of experience at this level.

  6. The huns want Brown dropping into defence to pick the ball up and also fur us to have a spare centre half so that they can hem us in with a counter press. We simply cannot play Brown and must be brave with defensive options. todays midfield and forward line must start and they will, trust me.

  8. study the bassas lennie, they’ve one effective way of playing but that’s it and we’ve never taken account of it until NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW

  9. We’ll be much more compact against thems, if Julienne’s out I think it’ll be Bitton alongside Duffy, Ajer and Laxalt as fullbacks.

I’ve been nursing a wee bit of a feeling since we turned the corner against Lille and subsequently, fast forward, it’s either 0-0 or 1-1 at ipox with 5 mins or so to go, corner to Celtic and big Duffy heads the winner. I should get decent odds.

Remember Madhun when Griffiths was decked waist high in the box at the Bigotdome 2 seasons ago? You’ll get shorter odds on Boaby blowing up Duffy for a foul if he gets anywhere near the goal.

  12. The incentive is to go there and take their unbeaten run off them and plunge them into a sea of chaos and doubt. It’s time to remember we are glasgow Celtic and we run this city.

I don’t know if we’ve turned Lenny’s mythical ‘corner’ yet , but up until the last couple of games I didn’t even believe there was a corner . I thought we were just being driven round the bend .

We are looking a different team now since Soro and Turnbull were brought in and I cannot fathom why Lenny didn’t take a chance on them sooner . We might not even be in such a tight spot if he had , who knows?

Saturday’s game is a pressure game like we have never had v them in the 8 year history of these fixtures, but on present form is definitely winnable .

I will still be more nervous during the game and more ecstatic if we win than in any of the previous .

Reading Hun blogs and of course the BBC most concluding this mob are off the boil, time to get at them👍👍

I have a bottle of whisky that I also got in a pressie, from ACGR actually, one of a small batch, bottle no 37 of 291, Graigellachie, it’s 60.1%, it’s as smooth as it gets, wouldn’t be that big a whisky drinker, I know why some called it fire water, lets leave it as that :>]

We were very profligate in front of goal and could have scored 7 or 8. However, we were very vulnerable defensively and could easily have lossed 3 goals. The Laxalt incident could easily have been given as a penalty, the Jullien clearance off the line and the miss by Nicky Clark when he shot over the bar when it was easier to score. The positive thing is that we are creating chances that we weren’t earlier in the season but we should be aware that our defence is our glass jaw.

Oh and Drew 1967, if you’re a Tim, I’m a member of the Church of Turkey.

  17. We’ve won a big game well, have very big game coming up quickly, yet all some ghuys want to do is post derogatory remarks about individual players.

I just can’t understand that mindset.

God Bless ,Whatever team Lenny sends out against the Hun & the very best of luck to them.
