Celtic v Dundee United

663

Under different circumstances, we would applaud, or stand in silence, to mark the passing of Jim McLean, the former Dundee United manager, who died on Boxing Day.  McLean’s achievements in the Scottish game are eclipsed by few, perhaps only Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson.  His team United the country with wins on the European stage that could scarcely be dreamed of now.

During his term, United received an accolade from Uefa ahead of a Celtic game.  Post-match, he spoke warmly of the Celtic support, a generous moment.  I am glad United visit Celtic Park to mark his passing today, it is just a pity we are not all there to share it.

Live updates will appear below from 15:00.

Hoping it’s horses for courses today and the team wins handsomely today.

Hoping it’s not the team for Mordor. Those two full backs will get ripped apart.

Barkas ready yo come back and he was brought here as the number 1, so I play him.

Connor has played well, but Barkas is Number 1.

3 strikers for united, so expecting them to come out.

I think you’ve misrepresented my views a bit here TURKEYBHOY

“I read a post from ILJASAB saying the majority of Ce.tic fans don’t want Paddy back.”

I did not write that. I did say some on here stated that and I agreed with it. I would never confuse CQN posters with the majority of Celtic fans.

Then you go on: “contrary to what ILJASAB thinks.FF,Paddy, spectacularly did, others more solid and good back up.”

Actually I was questioning the benefits of loan players FF aside as I was really thinking of outfield players. I think PR did OK first time round but not in second spell and a lot has changed since then. He hasn’t been playing all that well, hasn’t settled anywhere and has had physical setbacks so I think he wouldn’t be a good gamble for January. It’s only my opinion but I believe that to be the case I’d rather concentrate on what we’ve got. Turnbull and Soro have I would argue changed the momentum so has adding Griff to the mix. I still think Ajeti, Klimala and Barkas will come good. And there’s some young players that need to be brought on. I will repeat what I said about loan players – often not physically fit or match fit and there’s a reason they’re out on loan, namely they can’t get a game where they are. I’m not saying they are bad players just that they wouldn’t turn things around or keep the momentum going necessarily. Certainly I think only the exception would have immediate impact. I can’t think of any great outfield loan signings except PR first time round. Oh there was Bellamy years ago but he came because he fell out with his manager not because he wasn’t able to compete for a place in Newcastle first team. After Brexit Celtic will have to get more players from UK and I think we need to start planning for that in terms of coaching system.

My opinion is no more valid than anyone else’s but I’d prefer them to be reported accurately. Anyway no problem TURKEYBHOY. I’ll keep reading and enjoying your posts.

  4. A recurring theme in recent matches has been the co-commentators talking up how much they rate Ryan Christie.

  5. My United supporting mate predicted 4-0 to Celtic. I told him Collum was ref and he changed it to 8-0 !!

Live v Dons off due to frozen pitch, 10 minutes to kick off, how did that happen

    No undersoil heating??? ;o)

  9. To be honest I wasn’t as confident as some of an easy victory , and now I see its Gollum im even less ;(

  10. Doesn’t matter if players were signed as a number 1.

Every player should earn his place, regardless of fee or reputation.

Our team was dramatically changed for a reason. Why change a winning formula. ?

    Anyway, COYBIG.

  11. Laxalt gives away a foul 55 seconds in. Silly. Gives them the first chance to pump ball into the box, which they refuse and try and play fitba instead. Header into the Greek keeps arms.

  12. Familiar failings already that never get addressed. Christie corner direct to keeper, and Frimpong throw in direct to Dundee United player.

  13. Laxalt with a ghost foul gives DUFc a chance to throw men forward again. SOme head tennis in the box for a few then ref gives us a foul for, eh, something I never saw.
