Last season we were still in the LC and in a position to finish second in our CL group

Granted we had less points in the one horse race SPL

You think we’re better off than last year

In any event what happened to the entertainment aspect ….is that not valuable anymore

We’ve scored over two goals four times this season and only one of them was at home

A large proportion of our performances have been dire

Yes we’re still winning , yes we’ve a healthy balance sheet

No the footballs turgid and desperate at times

A striker we need to be considering

John Guidetti from Man City, 23 goals on loan at feyenord last season.

Do a Sammi type deal ?

    Hail Hail

  3. Everyone on here realises that we are terrible in the striking department. Conclusion, our scouts are rubbish in that area.Gie’s a job Lenny,I will get you a striker by January.

We have long been admirers of Guidetti, so I am reliably informed. Why we have never secured such a loan deal I don’t know but I imagine it could be down to haggling over what money we would pay and what percentage of his wages we would pay. He has been on our radar.

Trouble is we could be out of Europe in January. Any possibility would likely be next Summer if we qualify for group stages.

Just saying we’re not struggling mate, we’ve scored more goals now than at the same time last season. We’re still in with a shout of 2nd in CL group and we will do as good in the LC as we done last season ie not winning it. Forget about entertainment in the league it’s not going to happen the players can’t get up for it and the fans can’t either 1-0 down at home and the fans just sit there no encouragement no backing just moans and groans every time we lost the ball HH

Fair points. It sort of hammered home to me yesterday that losing, if we did, wouldn’t really matter. The stadium was pretty much empty when Charlie’s header went in.

PEP GUARDIOLA has revealed he would love to bring European champions Bayern Munich to Celtic Park.

The Bayern boss is eager to taste the Champions League atmosphere in Glasgow’s east end for the first time.

And star man Franck Ribery is so desperate to line up a trip to Parkhead that he hopes Neil Lennon’s side make it through to the last 16 so Bayern can draw them.

Neither Guardiola nor Ribery have been to Parkhead but it is on their wish list and both dream of sharing in the sort of occasion that Barcelona have enjoyed in the last two seasons.

Guardiola missed out on all of Barca’s trips to Celtic’s home – despite being boss at the Nou Camp for four years.

Now he wants to experience what his old players have savoured.

The ex-Barca boss said: “I’ve never had the chance to go to Celtic but I’d love to.

“I am young – just 42 – and still have a chance to go to Celtic Park.

“In the last two seasons Barca have been there when I was not with the club.

“I was coach there for four years but never got a chance to take a team to Parkhead so I would love to have this experience for myself.

“The reason we play football is for the spectators. That’s what I tried to put in place at Barca and now at Bayern.”

Guardiola was in charge of Barcelona’s B team when the Catalan giants met a Celtic side managed by Gordon Strachan in the last 16 back in 2008.

Although the Hoops lost 3-2 that night they got their revenge last November with a memorable 2-1 win.

Barca edged the most recent encounter as Cesc Fabregas sealed a 1-0 victory after Scott Brown’s red card.

And Guardiola commended Hoops fans for applauding Andres Iniesta off the pitch when he was subbed late on.

He said: “That is why football is great. It is for many reasons but one of them is that sometimes people can accept opponents and behave like this. It’s wonderful.”

Ribery – the new European Footballer of the Year after beating Lionel Messi to the crown – saw that game on TV and was blown away by the passion of the Celtic support.

The French winger said: “The stadium was vibrating because there was so much noise. I have never played at Celtic Park but I have spoken to players who have.

“They say I should experience it and I would like to play there and see what an amazing atmosphere it is.

“I watched the game with Barcelona on TV. I thought Celtic played well and merited a better result. But what I was really impressed with was the fans.

“They obviously love their football and that passion helped Celtic because Barcelona are a stronger team.

“It’s very important Celtic have these supporters and they could help them to get through the group.

“That passion really helps a team and we have that at the Allianz Arena.

“The Bayern fans are always singing my name and going mad even when we get a corner. But to experience the occasion at Celtic would be good.

“Barcelona might be favourite to win that group but if Celtic can finish second like they did last season, maybe we can meet in the last 16.”

If Ribery gets his wish there is every chance the Bayern star could be the world’s No.1 footballer by the time he heads to Parkhead in February.

The Frenchman has just been named among the 23 candidates for the Ballon d’Or – which will be handed out at a glittering awards bash in January.

And Ribery is the favourite after landing the European award.

Ribery and Guardiola were talking at an interview session hosted by Bayern to celebrate the winger’s award as UEFA Best Player in Europe by a panel of leading journalists, in conjunction with the European Sports Media group.

…we’ve scored more goals now than at the same time last season…

That worries me when we have only scored 23 goals thus far and we have sold our top goal scorer.

…Forget about entertainment in the league it’s not going to happen the players can’t get up for it…

Now that really worries me, they are professionals who are paid handsomely and paid to entertain the people that help pay their wages, absolutely shocking if true…

If they get up for it and earn their corn the fans in turn will be up for it.

I cannot believe any Celtic Players can’t get up for it. If they can’t get rid of them.

There’s a lot of apathy. The Deadybear’s situation has lead to even less competition. The club, are not exciting us enough. We need a hero to bang the goals in, it is what we love to see, something out of the ordinary the goals of a Larsson, skills of Lubo or the drive of a McAvennie. The team offer nothing just now we are staid and workmanlike. Right now it is the support that earns the club plaudits.

Intriguing call but with the greatest respect John Guidetti has been plagued with injury and has just recovered from a knee op.

He is no longer in Man City’s plans however teams such as Liverpool who are reported to be interested would not be phased by a £5 million fee for a risk or project in progress.

Even on a loan deal, for the anticipated wages necessary,we would require him to hit the park running and not be another statistic on an over crowded treatment room.

John Park and the scouting team clearly have their work cut out .It would be very interesting to know just how many strikers we have enquired about and the responses given.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

  21. I was once involved in a piece of research about a set of schools improving their reading scores. They had been pre-tested on Reading and Maths scores at p.3 and p.6 levels and, as they were below the expected norms for reading, a programme of reading intervention was introduced and the same tests administered a year later. This time they all managed a big turn around in their reading scores but now their Maths results were below the norm expected.

This effect comes back to mind when I hear our complaints about non-scoring forwards. I wonder what happened to all those complaints about the sieve? Far from being happy about our new found defensive steadiness, we have merely transferred our underlying tendency, to like a good moan, on to another object, the forwards.

As it happens, our league results are better than last year and goals scored are in line with previous years (slightly up on last year as it happens). In contrast our CL performances and competitiveness has also improved but the results are worse. We have also gone out of the LC earlier but, if you’re no going to win it, you might as well get out early.

As for entertainment- that does not equate to goals scored. Teams in this one sided league are either going to defend in depth or play a counter attacking game to test the notorious patience of our home crowd. That is nothing new. It is a pressure that all our teams have faced for around 15 to 20 years now.

Our crowd gets itself up for CL games and does not for home games- again nothing new about that. Any neutral analysing the Ajax game and the Dundee United game with the crowd sound turned off would conclude that there was equal entertaining football in both games. The Celtic fans experience, however is that the Ajax game was great because we got a much needed win but the United game was boring because, unexpectedly, we did not.

This is our lot. Celtic and the Scottish Premiership are both victims of the death/suicide of Rangers. A lot of money and competition has gone out of our league. We can long for them to return to provide competition (you’ll wait a while though) or we can get on with where we are, trying to be competitive in Europe against all the odds.

To get back to my analogy. Maybe the sale of Virgil Van Dijk in January might take the focus off our forwards and it might add competitive edge to our league. Sure, if we followed Stehbhoy’s model we could loan Virgil and Efe to Motherwell or Aberdeen and ask them to play the role of the Rangers that we miss so much :-)

That’s only my opinion mate, they just seem to go through the motions in the league knowing at the end in May there guaranteed to pick up a medal.

11 games last season 21 goals

11 games this season 23 goals

Last season we had a goal scorer this season we seem bit to have one but have scored more strange but true mate HH
