Well let’s hope you are right and by the end of the window we have strengthened the squad where required.
My thoughts are we will, whether the three months of horse trading will provide “value” or not we will see.
Think Arne and Benny are among our best players, it seems to me Brendan always likes to play his best players in the important matches – if that means Nygren is out wide, rather than the 8 or 10 position BR sees him being best I think he’ll be tempted to do that – he certainly has been effective there the couple of times he played there.

Garygillespieshamstring @ 1:19 pm,
Interesting, and good points.
Firstly The GM specifically likened the three players’ acquisitions to shares, and stated they had lost half their value.
Of course a house price is an interesting thing…
If you want to buy your dream house and the owner won’t budge on his price then you must take it or leave it – as you say maybe you buy as a longterm outlook.
If you are looking for value in a house, you may look for a duress sale; the owner can no longer afford the payments so must sell, the owner wants to move to another house and will lose that house unless she sells the current property quickly.
Celtic PLC are masters of the duress purchase of course, when it comes to players, although footballers obviously stretch the similie a bit.
Now last summer there were three key factors
1. We had, had a car~crash of a recruitment campaign in 2023
2. We had been selling HVPs so our team was “depleted”
3. We had a challenging UCL group campaign with eight tough games to negotiate, so needed to improve the squad that window.
It was those circumstances and the fact that the selling Clubs knew we were a cash rich Club needing to buy that meant our horse trading came to nought.
Also remember, the PLC wanted development players, paying 12 mn for Engels is a lot but he was one of the best prospects playing in Germany and we had lost MOR.
Maybe BR&CO would have found a more experienced, more developed midfield player if the 12 mn could be spent on anyone.
Remember our Board are very restrictive in what they demand in recruitment, they want top dollar on sales and rock bottom on purchases – and in the situation we were in having your cake and eating it just wasn’t happening in 2024.
However we will see, but my feeling is we will get our 26 mn + back on these players with some smart trading.
Yet we are already up, don’t forget the extra value MOR, Kyogo, Kuhn etc gets us – being greedy all the time means the team suffers.
Thats what interests me.
If the Club have saved 5 mn by not preparing for the UCL-Q play-off to me that is not a way to run a football team.
And remember the same Board that’s penny pinching now – lost over 100 mn in moneyball gambles.
So perspective is needed I think.

Agreed. Maybe we should take a look at the wingback role, as opposed to the out and out winger?
You see, Jinky, Davie Provan, etc, types of wingers are not really around anymore.
2 wingbacks tucking back to the midfield area when out of possession, and always on the lookout for a ball to run onto, with the pace of Agathe, and Petta, MON good a good few tunes out of those two, especially when playing on the break.
Asking a winger to wait until about 30 midfield passes have been completed, means that the opposition have closed every option down by the time the winger receives the ball, more often than not the winger then has to turn back the way, failing to complete his task, and soon becomes withdrawn and develops a tripping Khun face, not Khuns fault, it is Brendan’s fault, hopefully last nigt was a new plan.
And, is the winger not supposed to take the corners, free kicks near opposition goals etc, or maybe I’m being too old fashioned?
Asking Arne to take all of the corners, free kicks, etc, is a waste imho, and this always trying to score a Davie Provan goal from a free kick, is an annoying waste that comes with 1 out of every 200 free kicks leads to a direct goal which is bad management.
Wily opposition can give away all the free kicks that they want, knowing that Celtic are going to waste them anyway, and make Arne look like an erse as well, and soon enough he’ll have a tripping Khun face, like big isolated Idah, waiting for the ball that never gets crossed in.
If domestic opposition don’t park the bus vs Celtic, then they get what they deserve for not learning, just like we get what we deserve in Europe for not learning that the norm has been sussed, last night was a breathe of fresh air, BUT, for Celtic to make their name again in Europe, Brendan needs to get over himself and realise that the MON, WGS, NFL, way is the only realistic way, 2 defensive midfielders and quick balls up the pitch on the break, after we’ve carried out the low block, doubling up stuff at the back.
Big Ange, had to do that to save HIS skin in the Europa League, and well done to the big guy, in a final vs a piss poor Man Utd.
Ange learned, then in Spurs last game he went back to Angeball and left Spurs at the bottom of the league, showing Spurs that he’d learned nothing by parking the bus and winning a European trophy, then unlearning in the next game losing 1-4, no club can risk that. The fact that Idealism gets you to the bottom of the EPL and sacked for being far too risky, refusing to learn new stuff, like a spoiled child, my way or the highway, dizny work, when your in a league were every other team has hundreds of millions££££ to spend as well.
Brendan refused to change his ways at Leicester and look how that turned out.
English teams will be wary of hiring Brendan after that, and that strengthens the Celtic PLC’s hand during the transfer window.
