  1. Good morning all from a 9 degree and chilly Garngad.

A good result yesterday in the end and the. Treble is still on.

For me just too many changes.

Let’s give Falkirk some praise though they had a go and it was refreshing to watch instead of parking the bus from the off.

The game confirmed what we already knew about the squad we have and the next 2 transfer windows should be used to rectify it.

Good morning all from Govanhill. Hamilton Races today with Leggy and a few more rascals and ne’er do wells. Drop car off for mot, Alfredos for breakfast then the 255 bus to the Bay Horse. It’s all go ye know!

  3. “Brendan agrees with you,Falkirk are the best side we have played at Celtic Park this season”

Tell all the Huns ye know :-)))

I can see where you are coming from but we DID win 5-2 so the tactic of many changes then bringing on our `better` players later served its purpose of rest AND victory. Also, as Brendan said, Falkirk were a good side.

  5. Guys,

Imo we did not make too many changes.

We rotated our squad perfectly, backed up with a very strong bench. And it worked.

We gave playing time and competotive experience to many players and we won 5-2 against a very good attacking and entertaining team.

    Wots not to like ?

As my 7:58 am post indicates, I share your view.

The Manager has to Manage the whole season, which will naturally mean not ALWAYS selecting the strongest team.

If we lost, I might not be saying that (!) but I still agree with the principle.

Off to golf now on a very calm day in Arbroath.

In Alfredos, place is jumping. Some lads from Derry in for a curer after a great day at Celtic Park. These chaps can drink, dearie me. 😳

  8. HS – Yes sir, I am not going to argue with that, fringe or squad players need game time to impose their style of play and to show the manager that they have what it takes.

I would counter that with I think we need to move on 1 or 2 a refresh the whole squad, the 1 or 2 have been there for a while now.

I did say Falkirk were a breath of fresh air and played well so good on them but our squad players should have been good enough to take care of this.

BR and his team realised this and changed it.

It is hard though if you only play 45 mins every now and then.

Have a good day and I hope you are well.

    Superb.

  10. A bigger SPL would give more players more experience at a higher level. Wont happen where an Old Firm mentality still holds sway. The absence of a SPL Reserve League leaves many professional players with little or no game time at all. Currently we have three teams and squads, First, B and Academy, withe nine players out on loan, including the lkes of Matt Anderson in Austria. Yesterday we brought in eight first team squad players and were outplayed by a team at the top of the Championship. A reserve league is probably not practical within the present set-up, because of its’ impact on all of the above squads, though if we had one we might not have nine players out on loan. Ideally playing each SPL team twice a season, twenty four games all told, would give more players more actual match experience. That helped a Jock Stein infuenced Celtic over a twenty year Championship. Brendan knows this, explained the dilemma he faces, the players face, after the game. No easy answer I know, but the present structure, though showing some encouraging signs re Doak, Vata, Kelly et al, is not as capable of developing our own players as in the past never mind those arriving needing development, and I am not referring to O’Reilly, Abada or Engels who arrived looking like they had played the game before unlike many who have passed without trace through Parkhead’s gates.

  11. Celtic Mac,

In a different universe. The only reason we get the pittance from TV,is because of the 4 Hun games. Many would rather watch 4 Hun,Dons,Hearts,Hibs, matches than watch Raith,Dunfermline,Ayr,games.Competition is poor enough as it it is,without being made worse.

We are in a country of 5 million people.Too many teams for too few people.A useless couple of governing bodies is the real problem in our game.

  12. To write off some player after yesterday is a nonsense.Valle, first start against the SPL version of Adam Traore, rampaging about on the right,is ridiculous. That in turn, meant Palma was not getting GT assistance out wide.Add in Hatate being poor,Welsh looking very rusty, not helping Trusty, and Tony rarely overlapping for Jamesy,it was a cluster*#&%,epic proportions.Thing was they got time on the field,to get rid of the rust.So all good.Just remember,Palma was a success in the CL last year.

You are forgetting that in your Old Firm world we also have had to endure 3 and 4 games against the likes of Accies, Livvy, County, Caley and even Gretna if my memory serves me well. And the fact that Dundee, United, Hibs and Hearts have all been relegated over the years. Jesus even Rangers got “relegated”. I’m talking about developing players, and not just at Celtic. And as a Celtic supporter would I rather play Rangers* twice a season than four times my answer would be yes, all season long. Oh and as far as the population of Scotland is concerned it is pretty much the same as it was in 1951. Funny that.

  14. BADA BING That’s correct about Premier Sports on paying a one off payment for £99 ,but when you go on to there site via the Sky platform it’s £120,someone mentioned a code to use for the reduced payment to £99,but I can’t see it
