Really? 20-30 years ago we’d never score 2 at home against a team that had spent the same as Fene (in relative terms).
We played well in stages, we were poor in stages, and overall we were the better team. Kind of sums up most of the Celtic teams I’ve watched in Europe over the last 30 years.

Evening.
Could have been worse but really should have been better. We played pretty well for 3/4 of the game and Tierney and Brown played very well with one or two others not too far behind. But much as I admire the commitment Efe shows he just does make too many mistakes that cost goals and whilst I and we will never know for sure it is hard not to think that we would have won comfortably against a team that was way less than the sum of its parts had Efe not gifted them that first goal.
More worrying perhaps is that for the fifteen minutes Fenerbache played as a team we were very ragged – we lost our shape ( as they say) totally in that spell. A lot of credit to the team for battling through the rocky patch but as I said this should have been better.
I think we need at least 4pts from Molde now but we are in with a shout.

Shame for Efe, he was having a really good game until then, and actually had a good after it too.
2-0 and drawing 2-2. Disappointing, sure. But we would be ecstatic if it had been the other way round. I’m ok with the score, it reflected the way the game was played. Both teams had periods of dominance.
And, resorting to whataboutery, we played against a team that has spent much more than us. Spurs and Liverppol also managed only a draw in their games tonight. I think our was the more credible result.
Win our two home games, nothing taken for granted mind you, and we’d have 8 points. That would be pretty close to getting us through.

Brown was a leader and I thought Commons, Tierney (take a bow son!), Boyata, Lustig, Forrest and Griffiths were our best players.

In a year or two when he’s hung up his boots I’d like Kris Commons for manager. Intelligent, thoughtful, straight and in tune with the club. Send Ronny off to Viking Stavanger or some such where he can wax lyrical under no pressure about how his team are taking shape/ learning/ progressing after their latest 6-6 draw. With a nice wad in his back pocket from his time with us. Nice guy, he’d deserve it for having the balls to take the job and at least give us some good memories of his naive, but entertaining philosophy. But that’s his level.

Beating Ajax at home would sea the deal.
We really need to decide what we are in this competition for –
Experience and team building or are we trying to compete to the best of our ability or both.
In terms of performance there are some improvements but you would hope we could retain these players to build a team rather than punt them every summer.
The first 43 minutes is as good a European performance at home as we’ve seen for many years.
Like the previous match there is much to build on and much to ponder.
