  1. 50,000+ people at football game. 2 people arrested for being pissed. Yet it makes headline news on herald website.

Ps I really enjoyed last nights game. We played some great football and caused a decent team plenty of problems. Scored two good goals and created a few more. They got few chances, but made the most of our silly errors. Overall a massive improvement from last seasons group games, when we struggled to string 2-3 passes together. If we cut out silly mistakes and become a more cohesive unit defensively we have the makings of a decent side.

  2. ….PFAYR SUPPORTS WEEOSCAR

He’s not the first & nor will he be the last to make a costly mistake.

I just think the reaction to vilify him (not yourself) is demeaning & counter productive. Its not like we are blessed with sure footed defenders to replace him, I guess we are where we are. Having said that, no matter the ability of any player confidence is a big part of their performance levels & Efe’s at this time must be shot. Compounding it further by shouts of derision from the stands or collectively on social media is not helpful to either him or the team. Rate him or not he gives 100% & should be supported when selected.

Individuals deserve gip for not applying themselves or performing in a way not in keeping with the shirt, Efe can’t be described as either of those.

This is true, I guess some can get away with calamitous mistakes & some can’t.

Admirable stats but far from the big picture.

You do not take into account

    a) Goals lost or scored from set pieces around the box.

    b) Whether or not opposition defend zonally

Without these stats your analysis is far to simplistic to provide a complete picture.

    MWD said AYE

    /////

    Agreed.

The stats were only ever meant to present the reality of conceding goals at corners. I added in the other side when there was an outcry about lack of scoring from corners.

Feel free to gather the other stats, I won’t be offended.

  4. Pop-up ads on websites. Really, what is the point? They are an irritation and most people spend their time just clicking to shut them down. Advertisers and website hosts would be better served to have them as a scrolling banner along the bottom of the screen and just maybe a few more people may be tempted to actually read them.

  5. Last year in the Europa League we drew away but lost at home to the ‘on-paper’ best opposition (Salzburg), won at home but lost away to 2nd best (Zagreb) and won at home but drew away to 3rd best (Astra).

So far this season we’ve drawn away at 2nd best and drawn at home to best opposition. Both of home, I’d argue are a small step up in class compared to last year’s equivalents.

    Improvement.

  6. I agree with Kev on Efe.He is a terrific footballer,in the right position. That position is just not central defence. It really breaks my heart to see him make these blunders, but he really is accident prone. He has got away with many, but not it seems in Europe.

I was delighted with the performance,so much right. This Turkish team have spent a fortune on this team, and overall we outplayed them. The zonal marking thing is played by many top teams, and WGS played it all his Celtic management. So many positives from last night.Tierney,Boyata,Broony looking the best player,by miles,on the park.

Lets see how we get on against Molde.Hopefully Simunovic will have games under his belt, and we can field a settled back 4.We are doing well,so lets keep it up.We can win this group.

  7. Bamboo.

    We all see things differently.

I would suggest Blackett will only be effective in central defence.

Tierney every day of the week .

He had a mature performance despite being targeted by Fernabache as a weak spot.

Given time the bhoy can be a regular at left back.

  8. The ball spun up slightly and hung in the air for a split second before Efe headed it – meaning that he didn’t get the force behind it plus the Fenerbahce striker was then able to anticipate it and be in place.

I think VVD would have realised this at the time and either headed the ball to the side or controlled it.

Unfortunately, poor old Efe isn’t VVD – maybe Southampton will take him :-)

  9. Unfortunately Efe does not have the mental agility to play at a high level. At crucial moments his thought process lets him down and as the last defender at times this emphasizes his frailty – it is not dissimilar to Aiden’s end product. Unfortunately.

  10. Philbhoy. If you say we can’t compete against Norwegian teams you really have lost the plot

Norwegian teams to Celtic have a quarter of the income we have But they are run as football teams and not as a business

If Ajax were run the same as us then they would never win Dutch league

Not according to the stats I just published

    – ————

The stats are based on the assumption that if no goal is scored then it is considered to be a successfully defended corner.

If an attacking player gets a free header and puts it over the bar then for me that is not a successfully defended corner.

For what it’s worth I thought there were other issues in last night’s goal.

Griffiths failed to spot the scorer’s run. And Ambrose’s body positioning was all wrong. He was square on to the corner flag, so he was never going to see a player coming from behind him and getting in front of him. Should have been at an angle so he could see both the ball coming in and any player movement.

  12. If we had been beaten in Amsterdam and won last night we’d be on 3 points instead of 2.

But we’d be third instead of second.

  13. Afternoon Timland from a warm hun free mountain valley.

Reading back, seems to be a lot of coaches that are posting on the blog, I wonder who employs them, that’s right, nobody.

Some day the penny will drop, that if you spend pennys !

Our players are playing for us cos they are not good enough to play at a higher level.

I am heartened that we are disappoint that draws against Fen and Ajax have the support bitching, but it was individual mistakes that cost us, as a team we are getting better, last year we would have been pumped big time.

And I will say it again, the most important person at a football club is the manager~coach, not the CEO, or it should be.

Where did I say we couldn’t compete against Norwegian teams?

    In your own time.

  15. A massive October coming up,4 away games,2 home.Molde,Aberdeen and Hearts in there.

Hamilton,Motherwell,Molde,Hearts away,Unt,and The Dons at home.Could be a fantastic month for us.

If we had been beaten in Amsterdam and won last night we’d be on 3 points instead of 2.”

You could look at it that we have deprived 2 teams of 4 points whereas with a win and a loss, it would have only been 3.

My brain is stating to hurt.

  17. I just spoke to my mate who is a big Boro fan, he doesn’t have a clue who their CEO is, and I will wager that if you ask the supporters of most clubs, the majority wouldn’t know who their CEO is.

  18. Phil boy you said that we were 40th against their 34th. Already we can’t compete with malmos and Legias and maribors. You are clapping away happy that we are champions in a one horse race

We don’t compete against clubs with a fraction of our income

They would never play players like efe

  19. Morning all.

Weather down here reflects my mood. Disappointing. It’s still misty, although Cumbrae is in full view.

    Tontine Tim,

I read your contribution earlier. I couldn’t agree more. Too too many of those who didn’t experience the Kelly years seem to have a sense of entitlement that gets my goat. I think my old Dad (92) summed it up yesterday for me. He’s currently reading Jock Stein’s biography and he says: Jock Stein took a lot of mediocre players and made them into one of the best teams in the world and the best Celtic team ever. The bulk of those players had won nothing until Jock transformed them, quite literally, into world beaters.

Those same players made plenty of mistakes (a truly awful one by Big Billy against AC Milan put us out of the European Cup and a penalty miss by Dixie Deans did the same). Nowadays we’ve got to have a scapegoat. In the recent past, it was Sammi; then James Forrest; now it is Efe.

Some our football these days is a delight. (Indeed it was last night.) We know the situation we are in, playing in Scotland. Unless we move, the constraints we are under are not going to change. We have to deal with playing in Scotland and trying to field a team in Europe. How can our players improve playing domestically in order to be a force in Europe? The game here is deteriorating by the season. I don’t know how we can square the circle.

  20. West End of East End on

Watching the game again this morning, not going to comment on Efe etc as it’s been done to death and nothing much to add, but how far has Van Persie & Nani gone backwards. They were really really poor last night, it maybe backs up our signing policy of signing young and hungry players instead of going for experience looking for a final pay day. Just goes to show how hard a balance it is signing players…

  21. SydneyTim on 2nd October 2015 10:57 am

They’ve won the Eredevisie 12 times in the last 30 years. Perhaps they are run the same way as us.

One thing I’m not sure of is that we’d maintain an average attendance of 47-49k (c90% of capacity)if we hadn’t won a title for 7 years.

I think our model is pretty close to theirs. They’re just more experienced at developing players to sell, get a better tv deal and charge more for tickets. So that probably helps.

  22. In Europe mistakes will cost you, but a draw was a fair result, it’s an evenly matched group by the look of it, and no doubt there will be a few more twists and turns to it.

I would just like to ad one thing, it’s just something I laugh at, and would like to bring to some attention.

It’s a fact, and I can provide evidence, before zonal marking came into football, would you believe players where still scoring from corner and free kicks, and some even from a direct corners, who’d a thunk eh?

And when they scored it was a defender who was often heard shouting “that was your man”

Same as they shout at zonal marking, funny that eh?

  23. I was thrilled by the way we played for 40 mins….and then, we threw it away, again.

Efe is a good player….but very prone to mistakes under pressure, last night, he lost the plot.

    Once that happened….the confidence went.

Schoolboy defending once again cost us dearly.

Fenerbache were not a great team….we should have tanked them last night….at 2-0, they were in major panic mode..

But….as soon as something goes wrong(Efe), the heads go down.

From one extreme to another….Brilliant to Mince in short order.

I’m not sure that RD is the man to turn Celtic around.

Young Tierney was a bonus….however, when you cant rely on experienced international players like Efe and Izzy…..something is amiss.

I don’t think the players are listening to Ronny.

    HH

  24. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

In order to win the Dutch league Ajax have to best PSV and Feyenoord amongst others ..we have no such competition

  25. Weeminger. They would win the Dutch league against compitiion about twice if they were run like us eg With poor youth set up like us run by our CEO, who is poor

If Ajax had our youth set up they would be lucky to stay in top league

  26. The Green Man on 2nd October 2015 11:24 am

When we were brilliant for the 40 minutes had the players listened to Ronny or not?

Either they’re not listening to him – in which case he bears no responsibility for the way the team plays good or bad. Or they are in which case you must acknowledge the role he’s had in the brilliant play and hope that he can iron out the periods of panic.

I’ll go for that latter. I think we’re improving on last year’s EL performances.

  27. Should zonal marking be extended beyond just set pieces ? Watch the zone and the ball , but not the man ?

  28. Who is Leke James ?

Nigerian Centre Forward stating we have been watching him ?

Can I say Efe is a supreme athlete, always fit and rarely injured, doesn’t mean he should be getting a regular game for us

    Hail Hail

  29. SydneyTim on 2nd October 2015 11:29 am

How long have Ajax been famous for their ability to bring through youth? As long as I’ve been following football seriously and that’s at least 25 years. I’m assuming they took a period of time to get good at it.

We’ve had Lennoxtown in place for 8 years and had 3 products from it in the squad last night. We’re getting there.

  30. Aweeeeeeeeeeeeeee I get it we heading down the RD has lost the dressing room path now?

Agenda Agenda Agenda, all rubbish, and gives Huns and the SMSM oxygen to rip into the coach.

“We’ll be right there with you calling out your name”

“We are Celtic supporters faithful through an through”

Some should think about this before the post, honest ti God :(

  31. u know….I cant even give an opinion on this blog now….fed up with the negative response.

    TD67

The team were playing well….and then stupidly threw it away.

    Now, wtf is your problem.

I’m giving my opinion…..is that ok with you?
