  1. Lovely gesture from Nir Bitton, played better last few weeks too IMO, tackling better and moving ball quicker.

  2. Nir Bitton has been going up in my estimation in recent weeks with several calm displays and I have noted that he often comes over to the North Stand to give his jersey to a young fan

Hat doffed in your direction Mr B.

    Wonderful sentiments, thoughtfully expressed.

All the best to Billy and his Family at this challenging time.

    Hail Hail

  4. Big Billy visited our supporters club and did a speech around about 79/80, he was very impressive in his demeanour and his love of the club and its supporters was evident, sad to see him as he is now however he has achieved much in his career and will never ever be forgotten by the support . Few can leave such a legacy.

An interesting article from James Forrest. It got me thinking about all those important headed goals Billy scored for us, the SC final vDunfermline, the goal against Vojvodina on route to Lisbon. The delight we took in them, not knowing they could possibly contribute to this sad situation many years later.

I just hope the man himself has some happy glimpses of memory of these days, although it’s scant consolation.

  6. So sad to read about big Billy. Oh how cruel is a disease that robs people of their most precious jewels, their memories. It can happen early, met 2 Irish lads in lanzarote last year, one only 50ish, couldn’t talk. His mate explained quietly he had early onset dementia. So very sad. God bless All sufferers, and their families. HH

  7. WITS: I was watching Dublin v Donegal in the league. Dubs winning by a point with a minute to go and decided to ‘keep possession’ rather than get another point. They lost possession and Donegal equalised. Four minutes of injury time didn’t change score. Dubs should have won but their unbeaten run in now 31 games.

Re the café: I think it’ll be purrfect and have a good feline about it. ‘Build it and they will come,’ has always been my mantra. Of course, it could end up as a catastrophic business venture.

On a different note I’m still looking for one ticket v Soft Loans Co. on March 12th if anyone can oblige.

  8. My only recollection of King Billy, was as a wee urchin accompanying my uncle to Paradise, we bumped into the man himself.

A hazy, awestruck memory of childhood remains of a towering giant towering standing over me, who’s hair on a sunny day was lit up like a golden halo.

He never checked his step, but smiled down at the doe eyed boy and ruffled his hair as he strode by.

    A King indeed.

  9. Almore,

Did you count the number of wides that Donegal had in the second half? It could have been a different result.

  10. Look at all the streams of the ELC final. Loads. Same when the currents are playing.

US, rocking horse shit is easier to find. :-)

  11. Yogihughes: of course, you are right. What I really meant was that Dublin shot themselves in the foot by trying to keep the ball when there was plenty of time for Donegal to come back into it. And fair play to them, they did.

  12. Almore if your still looking to get back to Dublin after the Sevco game. Scottish citylink Glasgow-Belfast 16-20 arrive Belfast Europa 22 20 Belfast-Dublin 23-00 arrive Dublin 01-25 cost 42pound

Our King Billy’s memory is fine, by all accounts he now realises Paddy Bonnar was shoite…… This was Paddy B’s words today on radio Scotland :-)

No way making fun of dementia but listened to a programme on radio Scotland and old songs and memories ‘jog’ the memory of dementia sufferers more than the present …..

Again, am just delighted Billy realised Pat had a good World Cup 1990 but was stinking for us :-)

  14. I would like Southampton to win this final, that goal not given well well how do these refs get the games.Terrible decision.

    SFTB,

A very insightful post on the tragedy of dementia. It would suggest that someone close to you has made that one way journey.

I met Billy once and perhaps you can recall the evening.

It was at the midweek match v Hibs, where my daughter and I met you and a group of CQN’s finest met in BB’s, the howf de jour.

We went up to the Park in a taxi.

Anyway, in the concourse in the North Stand, Billy was standing, coat and bunneted, eating a hot dog, just like an “ordinary” fan.

We said” hello” and exchanged a few pleasantries .

Like the rest of the relics on here, I witnessed the whole of his Celtic career.

I don’t know if it has been mentioned, but he is not the first of our Billy’s to succumb to this disease.

Our hero of the 7-1 game, Billy Mc.Phail, also was a victim.

He and his family fought through the courts to establish a connection between his early onset dementia and heading of a ball in football.

    They lost.

Thoughts and prayers to Billy’s family, who are making this journey with the ma they love.

    Only they will return.

  16. Thought FF showed too much of one side, some strike though it was hit flat aka Naka at Old Trafford.

  17. Very sad to read about our “King Billy” thoughts with the family.

My abiding memory is Caesar HOVERING above the Hampden turf and scoring against Dunfermline , leading us from 7 years of famine to many years in the land of plenty.

Thank you Billy McNeil for all you did for Celtic and the family

    God Bless

  18. What is the Stars on

Last race at Southwell, (5.10) a horse called One For Billy has been backed from 12s into 7s

Would be topical winner after all the talk today about Billys sad condition
