CELTIC v HEARTS D-DAY

0

CELTIC face Hearts at Parkhead a fortnight today in what could prove to be a major turning point in the club’s pursuit of a fifth successive title.

The Edinburgh team are four points ahead following their 1-0 loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie this afternoon and the champions’ 1-0 win over St Mirren in Paisley last night.

The Hoops have a game in hand and are due to play Hibs at Easter Road a week today and then Dundee in Glasgow the following Wednesday before hosting the Tynecastle outfit.

SEE YOU IN GLASGOW…Callum McGregor shakes hands with Hearts boss Derek McInnes after Celtic’s 3-1 loss at Tynecastle last month.

Derek McInnes’ side had moved eight points ahead of Celtic after their 3-1 victory in Gorgie last month – the defeat that turned out to be Brendan Rodgers’ last game as the visitors’ manager.

However, that advantage has been hauled back with interim gaffer Martin O’Neill winning three successive league games against Falkirk (4-0), Kilmarnock (4-0) and the hard-fought success against Stephen Robinson’s side.

Topi Keskinen scored the only goal of a tight encounter for the Dons as Hearts’ challenge faltered in the north east.

Six minutes from the interval, the pacy raider latched onto a through ball from Dante Polvara and curled a low drive wide of Alexander Schwolow into the far corner of the net.

That was enough to send the visitors toppling to their first league defeat of the campaign as the champions continued to turn up the heat.
