Johnny Hubbard was, briefly, a PE teacher when I was at St Michael’s in the late 60s early 70s.

Still very fit and still playing fitba.

Why is it a red card offence to put your foot through someone’s leg to get the ball, but not a red card offence to put your head through someone’s head to get the ball as happened yesterday?

I met JH regularly when he was at Dam Park. Smashing wee fella.

Used to have rather pleasant little chats about football with him-which was otherwise rather difficult in Ayrshire in the late 80s!

How was the curry? One sheet or ten?

  4. BMCUW

Curry was delicious as I am a dab hand in the kitchen. Having the left-overs for lunch.

    One sheet this morning!

    Oxford Celtic FC?

    Handy for you!

I’ll be at game but My dad and his mate (Think Jack n Victor)

got a “great deal” from the travel agents.

Looked on Celtic bars and got Tierna’s Iris bar.

    But any local knowledge appreciated.

I told him there is also zombie bars and he said fine

” but ill need to sit and smile at them when we gub them

as I cant fight or run any more ”

Both of them are > 80

Mike Denness was fortunate enough to lead an England team to Australia when D.K.Lillee and JRThompson were in their prime.

    Cannae beat it.

Cesare Maldini didn’t play in the 1969 EC final, but captained the Milan side that won it in 1963 at Wemberlee beating Benfica 2-1.

First Italian club to do so.

    Hope yer well.

Lured back in wi the obvious bait of cricket.

Whatever works for one of our finest…

1989,I made the “schoolboy error,TM yersel” of admitting to my Aussie pal in London that cricket was the only sport I followed England.

He then became my flatmate and later my brother-in-law. I got a regular doing-with a smirk-from him.

2005 I was in Swindon and he was in Kilwinning, probably the best place in the UK not to get slagged off for losing The Ashes.

And he wouldn’t answer the phone to me either!!!

I also met JH at the Dam park in Ayr where he ran the fives bye the way he had a shot like a cannon ball when it hit you and he was a really nice bloke. H.H.

Cesare Maldini didn’t play in the 69 European Cup Final . My addled ole bonce thinks he moved to Torino around 66 /67 and then retired . He did play in the 63 final . Milan beat Benfica 1-0

  14. One point regarding strikers…

Nobody else has got a look in this year due to the form of Griffiths. We needed a backup should he have got injured.

Ciftci didn’t get a look in and we shipped him out on loan. We’ve signed two guys on free contracts.

Hopefully, Ciftci and Cole will be out the door in the summer and we can focus on bringing in somebody with more quality and fitness.

It is hard to imagine, unless there was a tax break in it for him , that DD would tolerate the profligacy in Celtic’s signing activities, in any of his other business ventures.

    Excuse lengthy sentence.

My view fae the ole Jungle roof….

Since 2012…Celtic supporters have gluttoned on mountains of Jelly & ice cream. laughing at the huns demise.

    Meanwhile….back at Celtic Park

A conveyor belt of ‘dodgy’ signings have

been ushered in, with a sleekit-clique

    getting a cut from a foreign-agent type

    of racket.

ah mean, p#shy striker after. p#shy striker for what ?

4 years ? No recruitment policy is that unlucky.

So, I will call it – by design.

Designed to line the pockets of the sleekit-clique

    who run Celtic PLC.

Ah mean, they must think it’s the munchkins who support Celtic ?

Anyway – it all boils doon to one thing.

    Can I prove it ?

    Can I smell it ?

  21. From Celtic Wiki. It seem Maldini was at Celtic Park in 1969, but as assistant manager:

“Milan went on to win the European Cup at Wembley in May after beating Manchester United in the semi and Ajax in the final. Their assistant manager Cesare Maldini (father of the great Paolo Maldini) said afterwards that they knew they would win when they knocked out Celtic as they were the only team that they feared in the entire competition.”

    AC Milan:

Cudicini, Anquiletti, Schnellinger, Rosato, Malatrasi, Maldera, Hamrin, Lodetti, Prati, Rivera, Scala. Substitutes:

    Scorer: Prati (12)

I was there too sitting right in front of where Prati pounce on Billy’s? throw-in and romped away to score. I was there with complimentary ticket from Sir Robert Kelly, but that’s another story.

  22. AN TEARMANN

    You’re welcome.

Prati, of course, was the guy who scored the only goal against us on that fateful night at CP in the QF.

Scored a hat-trick in the final.

Btw, Paolo Maldini’s son plays for the Milan youth team.

The Italy side destroyed by Brazil in the 70 World Cup final contained nine players (including sub) who played against us in the big cup. Can you name the three who didn’t?

True, but at the expense of diluting ours!

My niece is hell-bent on reversing the situation ASAP.

Good luck to our Development Bhoys tonight at Cappielow against St Johnstone. I believe a win will secure this league again with plenty of games to spare and they’re only two draws short of the perfect record.

I think I’m getting confused with Cudicini (?) who played in that game and whose son played in goal for Chelsea a few years back. Thanks for putting me right:-))

    An Tearman

Piero Prati’s goal is indelibly imprinted in my mind. A throw in from Jim Craig to Big Billy from the right of our box and Billy taking a fresh air swipe. Prati was on it in a flash and buried the ball. The guy who ran the game was Hianni Rivera. He was simply outstanding and we couldn’t get near him. I can remember Karl- Heinz Schnellinger and Kurt Hamrin and their goalie Cudicini as I’ve said above. I had a spare ticket for the game and I was offered £20 for it, a fortune at that time for an 18 year old. I sold it for face value which I think was 18/-. I believe spare tickets were changing hands for £100.

I was really deflated by that result.

jc2 there a couple of Celtic bars in Marmaris, one is called the Hoops Bar, any taxi driver will be able to take you. Most locals will also be able to direct you as they have been established for a few years.
