*My memory of that goal and being in the Celtic end was Bobby running alongside wee ten thirty who launches the ball to Joe McGoals who nods it back and who comes running in but the buzz bomb, boom 1-0 the bhoys

Good evening, friends.
The second half was a bit of a non event and in those opening 12 minutes we could hardly get out of our own defensive area. So lets concentrate on minutes 13 to 45!
Having weathered Hearts’ early pressure the ball worked its way across the back line to Schluup who played a first time right footed ball to McGregor. Calum ran 10 yards with the ball before releasing an inch perfect through ball into the path of Maeda and Daizen’s first touch saw the ball nestle in Craig Gordon’s left hand corner.
And just 7 minutes later we doubled our lead. Kuhn cut in from the right and noticed Daizen pointing for a ball in behind the defence. Nicolas’s lovely chip saw Maeda head the ball off the post and fortunately Jota was first to the rebound to hammer the ball home.
And in the 41st minute the points were secured. Engels’ pass across the midfield appeared to nutmeg the referee. Hatate slid in to a 50/50 tackle to poke the ball out to Kuhn who bore down on goal but noticed Maeda free in the 6 yard box. A perfect pass from Nicolas and Daizen had his 2nd goal of the game. Job done!
This weekend’s results see Celtic remain 13 points clear at the top with 7 games remaining.
One of my valued voters asked me how Daizen’s votes and points compared with last year and I’ve dug out the headline data –
Last season – 36 appearances, 439 votes, 32 points and finished in 8th place
This season – 43 appearances, 1282 votes, 94 points, 1st place
Quite a transformation!
We have now played 48 games this season, winning 34, drawing 8 and losing 6. We have scored 133 and conceded 44 (domestically it’s 118-27 and in Europe it was 15-17).
We still have a chance of setting a new record for league goals scored in a SPL season. Celtic already hold the record, 105 goals in season 2003-04. We need another 14 from the 7 remaining games to better that.

The monthly award is based simply on the total votes received over that particular month. During March we had just 4 games, St Mirren away and home games against Hibs (in the cup), Triggers Broom and Hearts.
In third place with 79 votes is Hyunjun Yang whilst the runner up on 107 was Jeffrey Schlupp. But the clear winner, as he was in February is Daizen Maeda with 243 votes.

When I was at Primary school, one of my classmates was the nephew of Frank Murphy the great Celtic winger of old. He taught the class the following song to the same tune as yours above:

A Murphy pass along the grass and the ball was in the net.
We used to sing this song in the playground in the early Sixties.

Celtic during the 60s had two of the their greatest ever goal post WWII scorers in Lennox and Chalmers. And only Henrik Larsson is up there on that same Pantheon. Of course many have hit 100 plus, Kenny, Hartson, wee Jimmy, Jamesie, Yogi et al, but those three are in a class of their own as goal scorers. Poor old Hamilton Accies found that out in the LC back in 1968 when Bobby and Stevie scored five apiece at Parkhead in a midweek game. Bobby though is the one who would still be great in the modern game, with his acceleration, and his his ability to hit the ball with both feet, and the only one who might have benefited from VAR in having a closer look at the the goals that were disallowed, for offside. Probably would have had more than 300 goals for us.

– Celtic keep winning
– they keep talking, plugging, being R2ngers
– Every other clubs supporters – not just ours – universally refer to the programme as “Hunscene”
– as time (years) goes by .. the gap between editorial stance and reality grows
… until someone with influence who barely has an interest in football says publicly
“Hang on, why we spending money on this?”
Until then, they are best ignored.

Imo, the finest goalscorer I have seen in a Celtic jersey is Joe McBride (Joe McGoals, as Tontine Tim calls him). We only had him for a couple of seasons, because of injury.

Joe McBride scored 54 goals in 55 appearances for Celtic- a phenomenal record.
Used to see him round St Brigid’s in Toryglen – if my memory is correct he married the school caretaker’s daughter.
