    Re off/on side firstly i though it was off side but when i saw replay from roof perspective i think it was rather on than off. Anyway benefit of doubt was applied. Sammi was great but wilson is terific so far. Absolutely disapointed from my fav player izzy. Nevermind last 45 mins.

    A player is in an offside position if:

     

     

    he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent

     

     

    But I will take it. We’ve been done plenty of times.

    nervous for first 15 or 20 mins then we got the ball to forrest and samaras and it’s game on, we have looked much more comfortable since then.

     

     

    goal was definately offside, about time we got a bit of luck with the officials though

    Craigan Thompson and his team would not have given that goal, so it probably was ok. but I would be raging if it was given at the other end.

    Shocking tackle by a Basel player on Mc Geady straight leg to knee should have been a red. McGeady held back by the other Spartak players as he was trying to deck the perp

    In my opinion hooper was behind samaras when the ball was played. Good goal, seemples.

    I humbly suggest it’s about where gary was when the ball is played..was he in front of the ball..if yes he is offside..its not about Sammie being in front of Gary ?

    I wish they’d stop going on about beinng in front of the ball for the offside. Whether you are in front of the ball or not is immaterial. However if you are in front of the man playing the ball, then you are offside.

     

     

    The rules say:-

     

     

    It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.

     

    A player is in an offside position if:

     

    • he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the

     

    second-last opponent

     

    A player is not in an offside position if:

     

    • he is in his own half of the fi eld of play or

     

    • he is level with the second-last opponent or

     

    • he is level with the last two opponents

     

    Offence

     

    A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball

     

    touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee,

     

    involved in active play by:

     

    • interfering with play or

     

    • interfering with an opponent or

     

    • gaining an advantage by being in that position.

     

     

     

    So it matters not if the player is in front of the ball. His feet were in line if not behind Samaras’s at the moment the ball was played to him, ergo, onside

     

     

    The position of the ball is not an issue.

    Smart thing to do here is just kill the game – play it out. Nothing fancy required. Just be professional.
