  1. Well, a season that will go down in history for all the wrong reasons is going to peter out in ignominy and failure. The die was cast when the Board stumbled into the Hamden showers and offered Neil Lennon a job he was no more qualified for than the previous time he was the Boss. No evidence of progression in his tactics and lots of questions about his man management and his own habits and failings.

Not a single player has developed under Neil

Lennon’s tutelage. Every player looks the worst version of himself.

Tonight’s game showed some of the failings which have been evident throughout this season.

Hazard looks like the third choice keeper he was until a month ago. Prior to that he wasn’t considered to be heading towards the first team. He’s made at least one howler in each of the games that he has played.

Welsh and Duffy. Both relatively slow and neither able to carry to ball to the opposition. Ajer has his faults, but he can take the play up to the opponent’s half of the field and commit pmaters to him. Instead, Welsh and Duffy released the ball so early that their opposite numbers could instead put pressure on the receiver.

Tactically we look like a team of strangers playing a scratch game. No patterns, no one prepared to take a chance and trust that his team mate will cover him. You see it most vividly in the wide positions. The two full backs unwilling to get close to the last man for fear of being caught out. Tonight not one cross from either Laxalt or Frimpong. Neither tried to take on his opposite number. No give and go’s. Compare that with KTs assist at the weekend. If you don’t show any willingness to get to the wide areas, you allow the opponent to simply defend narrow as Hibs did tonight.

The midfield looked good at times, taking the ball in tight spots and some decent interchange. Unfortunately it was almost all in front of Hibs. Again, the lack of width meant that there was no room in between players around the 18 yard line. Couple that with the strength shown by Porteous etc compared with CalumMcGregor, Mikey Johnstone,Tom Rogic and Cameron Harper meant we were always going to find it difficult to break down that team.

Meanwhile the players who didn’t play tonight look equally as culpable. Eddie sulking and disinterested, Broony more than a yard off the pace, Elyanoussi a powderpuff player. There can’t be a defender in tbe league who worries about playing against him. He is perhaps for me the second biggest flop of the season, behind only Arjeti, who looks as if he plays in an over 35s league.

It’s going to be a long way back. We might improve and even win the league next year, but there is no evidence that the Board can make good decisions when it comes to footballing appointments.

The Club chose expediency and the cheap option and the chickens came home to roost this season. Terrible buying, terrible coaching, terrible tactics, terrible decision making, terrible attitude. Simply unwilling to consider the possibility that we might need to improve the team to win the 10th flag this year. The definition of Hubris.

  2. Mr Tontine……………

Good to see you here, the shine has gone off everything for me tonight – can’t see where we are headed or who is going to get us there.

Good players are dissolving in front of us with every game. It’s like a switch has been thrown.

Everyone wants us beat and my country clearly hates our successes to the extent they are prepared to cheer on and put up with the huns and all thur sinful sleekit ways…………

Change now, even in our state could be even more catastrophic – and that scares me too.

    HH.

  3. Really disappointed that the lads who stepped in and stepped up didn’t hold on for the 3 points.

Lots to criticise about the goal. Lots to worry about in terms of the physicality of our young players.

But they tried their all. That’s all I can ask of them in these circumstances.

Corporate negligence has brought us to this point. Dave King was right. How we scoffed. Who knew. 🤷🏼‍♂️

See all the players we have out on loans ,can we recall them back or are they contracted till the end of the season

    ————-

There is usually a recall clause, yes.

  5. The Comfortable Collective on

Its all well and good the CEO detailing at the AGM how much money has been spent on players over the last 2 years when you go out your way to make sure they aren’t available to fucking play.

  6. I believe we are no worse off from an income perspective whether we win the league or come second, other than SPFL prize money. If anything we play 1 more Champions League qualifier so one extra game. We just have to finish second which, based on the way things are going, is not to be taken for granted.

  7. The Comfortable Collective

We buy players but never seem to play a system that suits them. We buy Ajeti then play him as a lone striker.

If he is anything he is a penalty box striker. We bring in Laxalt who by his own mouth is a midfielder and play him at left back. Frimpong is never a right back but there he was again. And that’s just a few examples.

I’m sure you can think of more. This is what happens when you employ a second rate manager.

  8. MNCELT

    We’ve lost merchandising the ten.

We’ll almost certainly be much worse off in terms of season ticket income as well.

Not disagreeing with you by any means. But were they good players or just flattering to deceive?

Ntcham has always been a little suspect in terms of attitude and drive.

Frimpong had a game or two and lived on that reputation.

Taylor is an honest player but never a diamond.

Duffy has it in his heart but was a great recruit on paper and a sieve on the park. We don’t play his style, half decent performance tonight aside.

Rogic still a 60 minuter when he should be a 20 minuter as made famous by Blackadder.

    Brown is aging.

Griff today said himself he was embarrassed by his ‘off season weight.”

Callum on the other hand must be so tired, he loves us, dreamed of the ten. Feel for the kid.

I agree with you, some folks have gone backwards but….. Feck, I don’t know. Someone posted a while back about the muscle memory of the rat years fading away. Don’t think that is the whole story but plays a part. Coach, backroom staff etc.

  10. AN DUN – the chats between ADIDAS and Peter over squibbing the 10 will have been interesting.

I could see a massive fall-off in revenues.

Even if every fan spent a bit less than normal, it aggregates up to a whole lot for a ‘global brand’.

Wish we’d been better administered, speaking of which…how are THEMS books looking ??

  11. Timbhoy2 on 11th January 2021 11:52 pm

Aipple well surely we should recall them back, one thing they will be match fit

    ——————–

Agreed, let’s see who want to play and has a game and some bite. Not much to lose now and if we plan on new manager / coaching setup bring them all back.

  12. Or were they good in a poor league.

It’s amazing how far we have fallen in 18 games, poor coaching and recruiting.

Keep saying a complete clean out from PL down but i will be surprised if it happens, at best a new coach very sad.

Thought we did ok tonight but as one poster said we are very light we looked like wee boys but they tried.

Fitness has to improve big time next season and play players in there proper positions.

  13. Magnificentseven on

The problems started a few years ago when we were singing about ten in a row when we hadn’t even won 7, it was a given and nothing could stop us, a wee wake up call brought Brendan and it changed for a while. We ran riot and again thought it was easy, so when Brendan left the bold Peter thought Lenny would do, we were so far ahead. Lenny who was proven to lose games we should have won first time round, who the Bolton fans thought was incapable of changing a game, and who Hibs fired, that’s our man. This is where it has led us, a complete rebuild required, it’s like we are peddling backwards.

  14. the problem started when Lennon acknowledged that he had players who didn’t want to be there – imagine Jock stein, Billy or Davy Hay in that situation! They would have gotten rid of them pre season and replaced them with hungry players.

I sensed then that we were keeping players who didn’t share the dream! MASSIVE MISTAKE (albeit connected with the financial/contract side also).

They have improved – but it annoys me they win the league without a challenge. They are not that good and with proper refereeing are shown up!

  15. Always reassuring to see that some old white guys on here still feel comfortable enough to dole out their sage advice on how mixed race players should think about gesture politics…night, all!

  16. Aipple – I hear ye brother.

The Good players we have – and there are a few, Laxalt, Soro, Eurnbull, Eddy, I’d include N’tcham also – must be wondering what they are doing at Celtic Park.

That thing that they were sold on must be so different in reality.

I think the fans also played a bigger part than we ever gave enough credit for. While other teams wont have had the benefit of a support like ours, I think the huns also benefited from not having thur knuckledraggers getting on thur backs.

Too many questions this year when all we needed was the right answers.

Basic tactics. 1 up in injury time. Hold the ball up in their end and see the game out.

Gutted tonight. If we have to play that team against livi for both games we will struggle as we are too lightweight. Be surprised if we get six points from those two games.

    Well said.

    Wondering why here.

The fans bigger than we could ever imagined even though we all knew the stands at CP were something different.

Thems and the entitled knuckle draggers, The Queen and the refs………

In terms of your last comment of “Too many questions this year when all we needed was the right answers.” we kept adding questions and feet to shoot before we dealt with the matter at hand. That is what will sting the most this year. The utter blind charge that turned into an eye half open stroll with fingers crossed.

We have a winning team in there we just need someone to pick and train it.

  20. The world would be a fine place if all that Jonathan Afolabi, our player, had to worry about, was whether he was going to be described as black or mixed race.

Sadly, the Milwall, Cambridge, Colchester and Exeter fans (and many other right wing neo-nazi hotspots) who booed the gesture were repudiated by all their players, not just one evangelical outlier, who heard their were Reds under that Bed.

And the Dundee fans who trolled Afolabi on social media and the Sevco/EDL crowd who tried to counter protest BLM in Glasgow, all suffer from Victimhood Envy.

If we had a White House they would trash it

  21. Has anyone watched a game this season and afterwards thought we were great there? Loads of great pass and movement, tremendous attacking intensity…. no, its been turgid dross game after game. We’ve become a very boring team

  22. An Dun – Peter will bring in a world renowned coach to boost season ticket sales for next season :)

    Aipple

    There lies the problem.

No discipline in the team. The clown with the headphones in on the bench shouldn’t kick another ball.

Who was in charge in Dubai that let it turn into weans misbehaving on a school trip? Thirteen of them identified as close contacts of Jullien is just absurd.

Lack of leadership and organisation imo.

  24. garygillespieshamstring on 12th January 2021 12:14 am

Agree with the weans on a school trip. Add to that people like Bitton doing his ‘tackle’ when he should know better in this country. If he doesn’t know it should be coached, daily. Like Laxalt (who I rate) tonight. Stop with the sillies, that’s how they beat us. Sadly this last 18 months have also seen us conspire to beat ourselves.

    Dubia, aye.

  25. HLS…if I wanted to troll you…i would…but yer just not interesting enuff…;-))
