  1. as a wee aside, i really thought daizen would have been away home and not played today.

  2. Idah has had a few starts lately and continues to fluff his lines.

  3. This is from the last article which I only finished prior to ko, so held back on it to allow us to enjoy the game, anyway, here it is:

Lets for a minute imagine a world in which celtic fans collectively sang songs about rangers football club letting people die in the ibrox disaster every week and whenever we played them (the issues with that exit at ibrox was well known before the poor souls lost their lives). It would not be allowed full stop.

*I am so glad that you mentioned that as I was at that game where the 66 lost their lives and also the other one where another 2 did as well, no matter who or what, no one and I mean no one period, should go tae a game and no return due to the incompetency or frugality of others.

As for the disaster as that’s what it was, I was in the coo shed that afternoon near the half way line and as I made my way to the only exit at the broomloan road end there where fitba fans dying but ironically even though they had equalised in the dying, nae pun intended, seconds there seemed tae be a pall about the air and we took it that it was us Tims that were gutted over losing that goal from a poor clearance by big George, who only played in the centre half role due to Big Billy being rested, NOT injured, as his performances had been poor up to then, in fact the half back line of Brogan Connolly and Hay more than too care of the hun attackers.

Anyway, back to the first game almost 10 year before where they also got a late goal when big Frank contrived tae jump over a long range baxter shot practically on his doorstep, he did live on copland road, to give them an undeserved draw, as we made out way to the supporters busses the sound of sirens penetrated the air like it would do on that fateful January afternoon which again we took to be the result of the usual wine perpetuated violence

It should be noted here that these weren’t the only tragedies at this ground, there were others in 1902, 1967, and 1969 and yet it took the biggest one in 1971 for anything to be done about it, as it prompted a Fatal Accident Inquiry, the Wheately Report, which his findings, published in May 1972, formed the basis for the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, Green Guide, first published in 1973.

RFC were ruled to be at fault in a sheriff’s judgment due to the negligence of the stadium’s owner, a civil case awarded damages to the family of one of the victims, which I believe that they appealed against, while an inquiry concluded that safety procedures in football stadiums were inadequate, it focused on recommendations for improvement rather than assigning direct blame, the verdict, however, did not fully address the experiences of those who witnessed the event.

As I said I was at both games and for the latter I was sitting at home approx. 25 mile away and that afternoon around possibly an hour depending on traffic and the chaos that surrounded it, I didnae pop in for a pint as Mrs TT and I were having a night out, she was still in Dumbarton dropping the weans off, when the phone went, it was my da, “that was some disaster” he said to which I foolishly replied “aye imagine losing a goal like that” ffs he went aff his heid at me calling me all of the eejits under the sun, until I told him I never knew until I turned the tele on, Mrs TT then called tae to see if I was ok as there wisnae too much information about it, so I walked up tae the local bluenose pub, as soon as I walked in tae a sombre mood which normally would have been celebratory due tae the late goal, one of the patrons said “were you at that gemme TT”, “aye I responded but never knew anything about it until my da phoned me”, it was then they realised where it was and “Stairway 13” was mentioned.

There was nae gloating, believe me and the phrase “there but the Grace of God go I” was often bandied about, as for the eejit “©” my late da, who thought it was funny or even banter I would seriously luv tae know his age and where he resides as hopefully no one of my generation would ever do something as despicable as this as we all lived through it.

  4. idah goal today, he was definaley rrunning into a position, great angle made actually, you dont have talk rubbish.

  5. !!Bada Bing!! on

it’s definitely a quality Brendan has,to keep the Bhoys performing and sharp, even though League has been won for weeks

  6. Really enjoyed the game today…. but……my god how bad are we at defending high balls into the box …we just don’t seem to realise this is our Achilles heel!

FFS whoever coaches this ……Sort it out!!

  7. If Greg Taylor has decided to move on then bench him….if we’re intending giving Schlupp a contract play him …if neither are staying play an academy player til the season ends….

  8. In their first season as permanent Celtic players: Hooper scored 22 goals. Griff and Kyogo both got 20 with French Eddie getting 23.

Dembele is the outlier on 32 goals – dropping to 16 in season 2.

Idah is on 19. The stick he gets is way over the top.

  9. ‘Trust my imagination’

  11. Good Morning Celts – Champion Day To Be A Tim,

Really good game yesterday, great advert for Scottish football.

We had a good, in-form side with important points to play for vs a top quality side, motivated to finish a great season on a high and a determination not to let their standards drop, even after the League is won.

In the end Celtic’s quality was just too good and we took the three points.

Great to see good sportsmanship on the day, the guard of honour was especially well done.

A bit of a flare up when Hibs frustrations got the better of them but warrior Kuhn was able backed up by big Adam as Calmac showed his class to defuse the situation.

Lots of candidates for POTY votes but I’m sticking with the goalscorers who all made a great contribution.

So winging it’s way to SENCELPOTY@GMAIL.COM

Very enjoyable day yesterday, due to road works we didn’t get back until 7:30!

Looking at the lack of hats in the North Stand there will be many waking up to find that they are sun burnt 👺, not me 😂

Gene – tough one for some (including me). I managed to get it on my last attempt – but even then was worried that I had spelled it wrong. Phew !!!

    Maestro,

I understand where you are coming from regarding summer football…

However, there are a few major downsides to a March -November football calendar.

    Clashes with World Cup.and Euro’s

I hate the breaks in domestic football to accommodate International Qualifiers, if we had a summer league November to March would be months of that drudgery.

If we had summer football, can you imagine the fallout from domestic scenes repeated throughout the country where family trips to the zoo, beach, parks etc don’t happen because we are at the football.

Winter break outings will be to B&Q, to choose wallpaper 😞

  15. Brendan Rodgers needs at least 3 new good tall psychical players in the defence,Tierney and Johnson are fine ,if there is a couple of B team players who play in them backs positions then give them a chance as back ups ,also a couple of pacy wingers needs to added to the squad, the rest midfielders and Strikers are OK, keep Kenny he looks a good prospect as back up.

To the list of the departed please add and remember

    Pablophanque. R.I.P.

If I recall Pablo passed away, I think in Holland. There was a sum of money raised on here to bring his body back to Scotland.

Pablo seemed to always be volunteering to pick up some CQN contributer or be driving them to games or helping them out in other ways. The man had a big heart and he’s a big reason I’ve stuck with CQN all these years.

El Diego Bhoy was a true gent indeed,i was down at his funeral, loved his Roxy Music. He was a cheery man,Peter Lawell had a hard job getting away from him as a tale conveyed to me :-))

    South of Tunis

An equally big loss to our community, his countin of the bodies swept up in Lampedusa and early covid onset in Bergamo was touching.

  18. Any material update on the investigation into the identification (and charging) of the Buckfast bottle thrower ?

Does anyone know why Glasgow Green is not being given over next Saturday to the title party ? There have been discussions involving the Police, Celtic and GCC. Is the latter the stumbling block ?

  19. The discussions have concluded.

All polis & ‘journos’ have been put on overtime.

Politicians are preparing their condemnations and a litany of aggrieved shopkeepers and passer bys are volunteering statements.

Just like Liverpool and their city celebrations.
