Good morning all from Alfredos. Some interesting characters in here today, some have even got their teeth and eyes in the right place.

  2. Another wee reminder of rules …

    BBC…

“In April, documents filed at Companies House showed that Marinakis had ceased to become a “person with significant control” of NF Football Investments Limited, the vehicle that owns the City Ground club.

The Greek had taken the decision to dilute his shares, placing them in a blind trust.

However, he remains Forest owner and is committed to the club. Instead, the move has been seen as a decision taken in preparation for the club potentially qualifying for the Champions League.

Uefa’s rules would not allow both Forest and Olympiakos to play in the Champions League next season given both sides are owned by Marinakis.”

  3. *SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*

*RESULTS FROM GAME #54 CELTIC 3 HIBS 1 (KUHN, IDAH, HATATE)*

    Good evening, friends.

It doesn’t get much better than a sun kissed paradise at 3pm on a Saturday and the first delight for me was the realisation that Hibs would give Celtic a guard of honour. No fanfare, no debate, just a decent grown up thing to do, whilst drawing further attention to last week’s petty opponents.

As for our starting 11, I must admit to being a bit disappointed with the dropping of Sinisalo and the non starting of Bernardo and, to a lesser extent, Nawrocki. However, Brendan no doubt has his reasons and the game itself turned out to be far more entertaining than I had anticipated.

Hibs started with that annoying masterstroke of getting us to play into the ‘Celtic End’ in the first half but that turned out to be the extent of their surprises. For a team pushing for 3rd spot I thought this was their poorest performance against us this season.

The first half saw Celtic having around 80% possession but passing up chance after chance, mostly by Adam, as well as being repeatedly caught offside. And it was Hibs who opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Taylor should have done better to stop the cross coming in whilst Trusty should have done a lot better in the middle, giving Hibs an easy opportunity to slot the ball home.

With half time approaching, a ball over the top from Ralstoninho saw Idah outmuscle the Hibs defender allowing the ball to break to Kuhn to score our equaliser. A long VAR check for possible offside only delayed the inevitable and Celtic were level. And 4 minutes later we got our second with Idah this time finishing in style after being put through by Kuhn.

The second half was much like the first with Celtic in complete control and dominating possession. Good intricate passing between our 3 midfielders saw a fine curling finish from Hatate into the Hibs left hand corner and another 3 points were secured.

Our gap at the top remains 17 points. We have now played 54 games this season. In Europe we played 10, won 3, drew 4 and lost 3 scoring 15 goals and conceding 17. Domestically we have now played 44, winning 35, drawing 5 and losing 4, scoring 137 goals and conceding 31.

Our total league goals scored now sits at 106. The record, held by Celtic under Ange in season 2022-23 is 114 so we’d need another 9 from our 2 remaining games to beat that. A very tall ask but we’ll see…….

Thank you so much to the 67 who voted this time around, just 3 below my own end of season target! The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

And a big shout out to Tony Ralston – 22 appearances this season (so far) and he finally gets voted into the top 5, just!

Even when I get the name my old brain can’t remember them playing for us – mind you like today’s I wish they hadn’t 🤔

  6. So now just 2 leagues of direct interest to us re Champions League seeding :

    These are Croatia and Denmark.

Unless anyone is interested in the impacts on our Glasgow rivals. Of course many do not believe in considering these but personally I do see it as important as they impact on our own ability to max revenue and their ability to be more attractive to players and need to start their season with really tough ties and reversals early. Eg 3rd week in July. If you don’t want their position please scroll by.

So for us it is simple. We need one of the following to happen Zagreb to not win their Croatian league or Copenhagen to not win the Danish league.

    Croatia

We almost certainly need Rijeka (leading Zagreb by 1 point) to win the Adriatic derby at rivals Hadjuk Split on Sunday evening they then have an easier final game at home a week later. Zagreb go to Varazdin for final game but with a league to be one they would be hot favourites.

    Denmark

An 83rd minute equaliser saw Copenhagen get the draw needed at home to Midtjyland last night. This preserves their lead of 1 point with 2 to play there. The capital side have a tough away game to Randers next Sunday then an easier final home tie with the 6th palaced side. Midtjyland have away game at Brondby then home to Randers. Given Randers and Brondby are fighting for conference play off spot their run in is tougher.

Should the above scenarios work against us then we would be hoping for 2nd round qualifier reversals for Ferencvaros or Zagreb or Red Star. The 4th round draw is made prior to 3rd round being completed so it would be too late then. Unlikely but not impossible.

For the govan lot it is interesting. Should Young Boys or RB Salzburg get second place in their leagues then Panithinikos, Young Boys or Brann (2nd in Norway and mid season ) would be likely second round opponents. Even if they prevail then Feyenoord, Nice, Brugge, Benfica are possibles in Rounds 3 and 4.

  7. Surprised we didn’t play a right sided centre back at the weekend. The one we have available has not let us down this season at any time.

At worst if our manager doesn’t fancy him then giving him a wee shop window does no harm imo. Certainly better than playing two left sided CB, one of which has shown himself to be a potential bombscare since we signed him last summer.

*I was a member way back when it was the Strathclyde CSC and left from the County Bar on Church Street then I left for out here, when I returned they had amalgamated with the Lomond CSC, leaving from Hill Street in Alexandria, picking up the Helensburgh club in front of the outdoor baths and then on tae the Stags Heid in the Newton, EDB’s wee brother used to go up on it back then.

EDB’s brother delivered a wonderful eulogy at the funeral.

BTW, I remember not being served in the Stag’s Heid for wearing a St. Patricks F.P. jumper.
