  1. Hibs tactics of lying down for treatment and as the game wore on just falling down (Bowie in particular) were poor , aided and abetted by compliant reffing from Robertson. It’s not his job to even up the game.

We started really well during the silence protest , full backs pushed on a bit more and Calmac had his head up looking forward , McGowan had his best game I’d seen and I would have kept him on for his goal threat.

Put it down to a mix of bad luck and new blokes bedding in , however we can’t have too many similar outcomes.

We still need less touches on the ball , quicker passing best way to breakdown teams.

  2. Good Morning Fholks…

Enjoyed yesterday’s game, it was frustrating, as the gamesmanship was off the scale

Hibs had three headknocks in the first twenty five minutes.

Everytime a Hibs player fell to the floor they got a free kick.

We had free kicks in dangerous areas just outside the 18 yrd line and the referee gave us “advantage”

The outcome was 14 fouls against Celtic 1 against Hibs in the 90th minute.

The ball must have been in play 50% of tge time and there was a total 7 mins added time.

However we were very unlucky not to score and that would have changed that dynamic completely.

Early goals are really what is needed in the SPL.

As far as POTY- quite a few who deserve a vote, my thoughts Calmac for the first time in a while, McCowan put in a shift, the defence as solid as ever.

Yet I’ve gone with the new bhoys, who under the circumstances did very well and were unlucky to not get goals, assists and three points.

  3. On the time wasting.

Hibs are not the only ones, they all do it but it is getting worse and more obvious. Players are clearly “coached” in all these ways and that is a little sad that teams are happy to butcher the game and turn the public away from the game. What drives me the wall is the credit they get from the media – I don’t expect teams to come out and I’m ok that the tactics are brain numbing, it’s our job to break it down but the play acting, diving, time wasting….come on call it out lads.

However these coaches and players do it because they are allowed to get away with it – the refs simply comply and the paying public get cheated out of game time. There really does have to be a change in this as cheating, faking injury and wasting time are being rewarded and that cannot be right. Yesterday could easily have had 10 mins ET in each half – such was the time wasting and until that starts getting added on it will never change. They will still feign injury, they will still throw themselves down and they will still take ages for throw ins etc. but at least they will not be rewarded for it they will just be doing it to break the game. The ref yesterday was absolutely complicit in the time wasting – he consistently told them to hurry up but never followed it up when they just carried on doing it. He even brought over the captain and warned him but still did nothing to back it up and as long as that continues they will continue to cheat. If I’m in management at Celtic I watch that game with a stop watch and note the clear time wasting and the number of warnings with no action and present to Willie Collum and ask him to explain it and why we are allowing supporters to be shortchanged.

As for the foul count 1-16 that is off the charts……..BTW there is no way Hibs had 23% possession yesterday, if you add the time they took to by kicks, throw ins etc maybe but possession of the ball in play – 10% would be generous

  4. MOISEY 17,

Too true. We must raise it with Collum, especially as the media refuse to do so. In fact, Sportscene yesterday had nothing but praise for Hibs’ “tactics”. The likes of time wasting, feigning injury didn’t even rate a mention. Do these teams do it against other teams and so the refs are immune to it? Imagine how poor other games are if both teams do it.

  6. How the hell did Hibs get away with only conceding one foul, having been on the back foot for the most part ?

And Celtic penalised 16 times which is well above average ?

  7. glendalystonsils on

I’ve noticed when watching European and EPL games that referees are not penalising wee nudges and minor physical contacts bar the odd exception , preferring to keep the game flowing . Up here it’s the opposite , our refs don’t seem to realise football is an entertainment as well as a sport .

Or maybe the likes of Robertson have another agenda .

  8. 2 games in the league and two games in the qualifying plus extra time we have drew nil nil hopefully our newbies can find the formula with the right help and coaching from almost same staff we have had for a good few years is there upgrading required in that area also most probably.

  9. Watching MOTD last night was like watching a re run of everything from our game.Desperate defending, keepers stopping everything, shocking interpretation of the rules by Referees, backed up bizzarely by VAR in the Chelsea game.A kick to the face, head height,in the box,not a penalty??????.Sitters missed,no lucky break to help.

    One of those days.

Whoever thought up the ” Silent protest”,an idiot.Utter nonsense.Affects the team not the Suits.Madness.They just ignore it.Its easy. Its silent FFS.

Protest.Dont buy merchandise.Picket the Superstore before games.Dont buy any foodstuffs inside the ground.Dont buy The View,or programmes.Banners, chants,if you feel you must do something at the game.

    DO NOT HAMPER THE TEAM.

  10. Who would have thought that selling so many attacking players would result in us scoring fewer goals.

    Never saw that coming.

Not a huge fan of protests which can adversely impact the team, though to ignore the deliberate silence from the padded seats would be hypocritical. Disgraceful and cowardly

  11. ADVERTISEMENT
  12. glendalystonsils on

It’s a tough one . Something needs to be done to effect change in the boardroom without undermining the team performances . A boycott on merchandise will certainly hurt our profit worshipping board but is not enough by itself . If anything ,it will likely be a protracted wearing down rather than a storming victory for the fans . These cleverer, more successful chaps in their tailored suits (and their kindred spirits on CQN) will not readily trust the future of the club to the grubby, uneducated fanbase .

  13. Celtic P6 W4 D2 PTS14

    Hibs P6 W1 D5 PTS8

Sportscene last night. Thompson’s first words after Celtic/Hibs highlights — More dropped points by Celtic.

    WTF?

  14. 31003

The GB make brilliant banners expressing their protests. Surely that is more constructive than periods of silence that can do the players on the patlrk no good at all.

The board sitting in their heated seats must love these silences as it means they’re not being targetted.

  15. Saint Stivs @ 12:44 pm,

How many of the sixteen free-kicks awarded against Celtic yesterday were actual fouls in your opinion?

  18. Afternoon all.

If the blog doesn’t mind, a bit of non related football news.

Earlier today, Mrs BelmontBrian and myself became Grandparents for the first time.

My son, Martin and Daughter in Law, Kirsty, became first time parents to a baby girl, no name as yet.

Both mum and baby are doing well, the wee ghirl weighed in at 7lbs 8oz, according to Martin she has ‘red curly hair and long legs’ if any of you have met Martin you will understand why this is not surprising.😉

Thanks for letting me pass on our fabulous news.

    Take care and God bless.🙏💚🍀🍻

I asked you @ 11.37pm what it is we are supposed to be looking at and what exactly was it that you “witnessed”?

So what was it? A false flag?

Lot of hype around Hearts, but have they actually played anybody good yet?

Our goals for will be well down on last season (can’t think why!), which will likely impact our points total, but I just don’t see anyone else getting into the 90s or even high 80s. Time will tell I guess.

  23. Belmont Brian – many congratulations on the arrival of your granddaughter.

For more unrelated football news, I was born at home in Belmont Street, Coatbridge. The midwife was Mary Kane, mum of Pat and Greg Kane aka Hue and Cry.

  24. The amount of free kicks given for players falling over when a deffender breathes on their back is ridiculous.Same,a defender gets into trouble, around the byeline, drop down.Free kick.

I have said before, surely these Refs must watch football, see it from a spectator stance.See the blatant cheating.Nope, continue being conned.Too stupid for words.I think Bowie had around 6 fouls awarded to him, only one was an offence.

    ————

the referees are not being conned, our players bundled over opponenets all the time, it is us being stupid, very predictable, we do it home/away/europe.

easy for the refs to give fouls, easy for the opponent to crumple,

it is in our gift to do it better.

  29. AN TEARMANN

Not that it matters, but as soon as they started singing sack the board, the time on the big screen was 85 minutes. Just repeating someone else doesn’t make it right.

In any case, even if it was 89 minutes, everyone knew there was going to be several minutes added, so my point stands.

  30. TurkeyBhoy – you can add goalkeepers to the worst offenders list. If there is any kind of challenge on them they will claim for the foul and almost always get it.

I posted during the game yesterday that Hibs were time wasting from the 1st minute. It was so blatant it couldn’t be missed. If the end justifies the means I guess they are delighted.

  32. hibees tv was quite dismissive of their tactics yesterday, longer the game went on they wanted them not to settle for a point.

every non-hun league game, other thanks the GB and the Bhoys, the Celtic support sit in silence for 90+ minutes.

the GB and The bhoys are not your enetertainers, choir, jesters, minstrels.

what have you and the majority of other Celtic supporters done about their treatment and bans by the polis and our establishment loving board.

    my arse indeed.

  34. Not advocating rough stuff per se but isn’t it normal if the centre forward is consistently falling down for our centre half to lose his balance and fall on top of them ….

We had to wait ages until CCV laid one on Bowie , other strategy is just to boot the smallest forward constantly if the centre forward persists in diving.

Not advocating wholesale violence but we need to get cuter , tougher.

agreed some of our players were more then stupid at times – but not every time and the refs dont apply the same rules when it is our players being bundled over.

the opposition are going to ground before contact is even made.

robertson especially is a 12th man for the opposition in every single game he refs.

  38. I know it’s never going to happen, but I think for a “head knock” players should go off for 1 min and not 30 seconds. That might cut down on players rubbing their heads when no contact is made :)
