Celtic – magnificent, juventus – world class, referee – horrific, Uefa – shambles, ambrose – steaming. Tie – over. Rangers – DEAD

  2. Tim Malone Will Tell on

My boy is hurting and disappointed – but he told me to post that Izzy was brilliant tonight …

Celtic’s Neil Lennon: “I’d like to ask the ref is the game different in Spain & Italy? Every time my player moved in the area it was a foul”

  4. I’ve been watching Celtic in Europe for nearly 50 years and they say refereeing decisions even themselves out. Well I don’t think I will live another 50 years to see that happen. Another lesson for Neil to learn tonight, mental fitness is as important if not more important than physical fitness.

  5. All I can say about the referee is that he sees two infringements in the juve box. Both of these are serious enough to book a player (Hooper and k’ve defender). However, play is allowed to continue? Why is there not either a free-kick to them or a penalty to us? Coward.

Conte: “I played all over the world and rarely have I seen an atmosphere like this. We’d heard about it, but living it is something else.”

  7. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

Not saying Russell wd have won us the game but he wd have put more into it than Forrest did.

  8. “I played all over the world and rarely have I seen an atmosphere like this. We’d heard about it, but living it is something else.” Conte

Still got humped 3-0 right enough…

  9. It’s over for another year. If we want to do better we keep the team together, that means Hooper and Victor need to stay. We are a club with no debt, build on what we have. European football is all about experience and keeping the same players together. If we can do that we will progress beyond the last 16. Its a long game but the foundations are in place. I never expected anything different from the ice-cream men. Our players are gaining the experience needed. It’s about keeping your best players!!

Great interview from Lennon. Maturing into a real class act.

do you want a manager or a talkshow host.

  11. I don’t usually post in the immediate aftermath of a game when emotions are running high but making an exception tonight. Here are my thoughts for what they are worth.

1.I am immensely proud of my team and their performances in Europe this season.

2.On our run we have,on a few occasions, enjoyed some good luck.Tonight the good luck ran out.

3.Prior to tonight our finishing/ratio of goals scored to chances created has been excellent.Tonight we weren’t as clinical as you need to be at this level.

4.At this level, individual errors tend to be punished a lot of the time…unlike domestic games.

5.The referee’s performance was disgraceful.Same for his assistants.

6.Individually and collectively,Celtic have improved so much since Neil Lennon took over.Who would have thought on that dark night in Paisley being humiliated 4-0 by St.Mirren that we would be on here unhappy at being unluckily beaten by Juventus in the CL having qualified from a group that had Barca,Benfica and Spartak Moscow in it?

I woke up today proud to be a Celtic fan.

I watched my team tonight proud to be a Celtic fan.

I will get up tomorrow proud to be a Celtic fan

  12. No doubt Juve are a good side, a really good side, they deserved their win but thought the final score flattered them a bit, the refs performance is one we should be accustomed to but don’t let it detract from the facts, they played us well, theyre very experienced and know their stuff, but were a young side and in time we will learn as we grow together.

Hail Hail, today, tonight and tomorrow.

  13. Juve let us have the ball and scored 3 breakaway goals. a bit

cynical in defense but thats what every team has to overcome and it’s part of football.

we did well on the ball, a few half chances but juve made clearer chances than we did. no excuses.

  14. Celticbob

We are beat, but no need to name call,we don’t like it,so shouldn’t stoop to that level.HH

  15. Just what do those lumps of wood do at the side of the goals. Still can’t quite believe they see that as within the rules of the game

  16. I wrote an article for another Celtic site a good few years back when we were struggling in one of Gordon Strachans seasons. It was about the fine lines between success and failure in football.

Tonight was testament to that. Efe heads it clear in the third minute we don’t lose 3-0.

Efe scores at 1-0 to them we don’t lose and maybe go on to win.

Ref at any stage awards a penalty for any of the rugby tackles in the box and we not only get a goal but change their tactics in defending corners/ set pieces.

Efe decides row z is the place for it we don’t lose 3-0.

    Fine lines.

It isn’t Efe Ambroses fault. He shouldn’t have played. It isn’t Neil Lennons fault. He sent out a team to play the Celtic way, took a chance and for 80 minutes we took on and dominated a genuinely top european team and a dodgy spanish ref who was terrified of making a big decision. A break of the ball here or there and we would have scored a couple of goals.

    Fine lines.

I am content with where we are at.

Last 16 was beyond our expectations. To compete as we did tonight was beyond mine.

Reality bites. I enjoyed the game. Never said that before about a 3-0 defeat.

  17. the one thing I didn’t want today was early panic or a giveaway goal – I’d hoped we’d moved on from that !

  18. Logged on expecting to see a lot of criticism, apart from a couple of posts it’s good to

see most are proud of the performance, for almost 80 minutes we were the better team, the decision to play Efe never worked, but the worst thing tonight was the totally spineless display by the ref, aided by blatant cheating by juventus players, we aint winning the big cup this year, but I pray to god they don’t either

  19. No take football out of it, flying will tense up ur mussels and if you haven’t been with the squad for three weeks you shouldn’t start. This was a school bhoy error…. Charlie should have started at CB and how Ledley dosent make the line up is beyond me? But hey if the ref or the 5th official do their job we have a different result. If it finished 0-1 the score line would have flattered them. I only hope this encourages the team to stay together because I believe that if they do we can achieve so.. so much. I love Celtic… Forever and alway.

We were never going to progress at the expence of them, too much money involved due to the advertising rights, a bit like when Ireland were cheated in France.

uefa, fifa, sfa, cheats every last one of them.

I would wager my grandweans life that if we had done to them what they done to us at the set pieces, they would have been given a penalty.

Mugged and cheated, and unlucky to a degree, but hopefully Lenny will learn from it.

Never easy going in against a team that cost ten times what yours cost.

  21. I’m usualy a harsh critic..but not on this occassion.

Tonight i’m proud..what a tremendous achievement in getting to this stage of the competition..

I really sincerely hope big efe doesnt let his head drop..he has the heart of a lion! He did cost us a goal and should have scored1..but was he ready for tonights match?? ..I dont know, just hope tonight wont crush him.

  22. I feel a bit like Charlton Heston in the Omega Man just at the sun is going down.

Plenty of “fresh” faces I see

  23. 2 mistakes cost 2 goals – unfortunately down to Efe.

We did enough 1st half to get back level – didn’t happen. Thing is tonight we were playing effectively with 2 men short.

Lustig was a big loss when only 1 down (not being able to hook Forrest).

Watt could have been put on (to aggravate Lichtsteiner) and positions swapped to allow Hooper to sit a little deeper – it might have made them defend deeper.

Several bad calls by Lenny tonight – like a poker player he went all in – took too many chances.

Minus Sammi – Efe just back from ACN – Izzy/ Forrest/ Big FF all rusty/ back from injury – we should have set out our stall so as to be still in it in 2 weeks time.

Hasn’t happened – been a fantastic run – real shame its all over.

Very harsh lesson – now it’s back to the drawing board for next season’s CL qualifiers – hopefully a lot more wiser (experienced) than we were tonight!

    H!H!
