The score board at the match initially credited Marchisio and after about 10 minutes changed it to Mastri.

I think it was the official eufa record keepers who made that call.

I agree on the cynical – a few of your ‘monikers’ wouldn’t go amiss.

No point being wise after the event (for all my posts) – been banging on for weeks about Lichtsteiner when others were on about Pirlo.

Our Team is good – it needs a bit ruthlessness – Sutton/ Tommo?

  3. first post ref was awful how can you book players for being fouled and thrown into back of net imo ref bank account should be checked we all know juve past history

  4. I’m reluctant to criticise players because I don’t get to see many games live and have to rely on TV coverage…but I’m sorry, I don’t get what Forrest adds to the team. OK, coming back from injury and all that, but even before his recent injury I just don’t see the intelligence in his play. I’ve yet to see him turn it on when it mattered…on the big stage and against a decent defence. At 21 and with almost 100 first team appearances I expect more but so far I’m not seeing it nor do I see much progression in his ability.

  5. Played the Celtic way, didnt work out tinight. Italians play outside the rules. Juve £200m worth of anti football, embarrassing really, what is the point of playing football if that is what you aspire to with those resources. Hope Barca really horse them, so we can see what massive debts really should produce! Hope the experience is a valuable one for our Bhoys.

  6. Efe / not sure if is physical or mental tiredness but we all knew he has that slackness in him. He has only been us a short time and been very much thrown in.

AFN didn’t help. A lot of talented players but a very slack open style.

  7. We were a cross between naive & stupid…..Juve must have thought it was Xmas played right into their hands. Just a normal day at work for them. As they always play 3 at the back we should have played 2 men wide to stretch them or make them change with Hooper lying deep / support coming from midfield. Instead we played on top of him – easy day for their central defenders.

Picked off as simply as we could have been v Benfica if they had shown more aptitude to attack. Lacked nothing in effort / high tempo but plenty in guile / awareness.

  8. Playing Efe was a gamble. It didn’t pay off. I would’ve taken the same gamble so no complaints from me about his selection.

We missed Sami. Forster wasn’t back to being a ‘wall’ yet after his bad pillow/sore neck.

Juve sharp as feck when they got into the final third. Celtic plugged away without really causing Buffon any real problems.

Annoyed about refereeing at corners but credit to Juve who came up with plan to deal with the Celtic dead ball threat.

    Ah well!

I think I’ll leave managing the team to the manager

Hindsight is wonderful …most managers don’t have it …I don’t think Lenny does either

The ITV panel of WGS,Keano and Dixon thought we were set up correctly …perhaps they were wrong too

On nights like tonight amateur armchair managers do my head in …

  10. michael owen ‏@themichaelowen

Gutted. Celtic deserve so much more. They have been outstanding. Particularly annoying having witnessed so many dirty tricks by the Italians

  11. Johnnyclash, agree with most of your post, but why credit a team when the plan they come up with is to blatantly cheat

  12. Mea Culpa

Spot on mate, the most pleasing thing for me this season was the result against Barca at home. At the weekend tho the young guns were brilliant. We are improving on all fronts.

  13. Got a phone call before kick off telling me I`d secured a ticket for Turin! We`ll just have to score a quick goal over there, followed by another early in the second half. Get the equaliser just before full time, keep it tight in extra time then beat them on penalties. Quite simple really.

I`ll wait to see who we get in the last 8 before I devise the strategy needed to progress to the semi`s.

    12February,2013

Hooper got dragged all over the place. As soon as he pushed back he was booked. Juve defender then continued same pushing and pulling with Brown, Ambrose and others. Brown also got booked as soon as he stood up for himself. James Forrest got booked for an accidental late tackle while the deliberate tackles to break up play by juve defenders resulted only in free kicks. When an infringement was committed by juve, advantage was never allowed – ball was allowed to run then pulled back when Celtic had an advantageous run of the ball.

This guy obviously trained at largs and is destined to become the star of the new range of SFA ref training DVD series.

  15. 0-3 not a fair reflection of tonight’s match. We played well but lost amongst other things due to our own slackness. Juve three shots at goal, three goals.Forrest through the middle did not provide anything, Juve central defence gobbled up every cross into the box. They showed they are a very good team despite the penalty box antics. Poor referree again for us.

  16. Gutted here in Jamaica.

Gutted that I wasn’t there to cheer my team off the Park tonight.

On a positive note, I’ll be back for the game on 24th – Yippee

& away game with Juve, where we can adopt their defending tactics ? and then only need to win 4 – 1

    Hail Hail

  17. Plenty of clubs looking for managers for all you experts on here tonight

Get your CVs in you seem to have all the answers

Problem is, our stars are not as good as their stars, so it’s really a no contest, our stars have to be playing better than they normally do, and their stars need to be playing worse than they normally do, just to make things even.

That quote from Big Jock, about putting the ball in the net to take the referees out of the equation , was probably the worst thing he ever said, IMO.

    He was condoning their cheating.

Still, we are both Tims, and for that I am eternally gratefull.

  19. Manager got his tactics correct but his choice of personnel wrong.

Efe shouldn’t have played, Joe Ledley should have played.

The CL requires 100% concentration from start to finish, Efe’s head was elsewhere. He’s been away at a tournament for a month where he strolled through games at right back and is not that good a player that he should automatically come straight back into the team.

Ledley hides a lot of the shortfalls in the defensive side of our game with his selfless work both on and off the ball.

Also Mulgrew, he is there for set piece delivery yet until Commons went off he didn’t take one corner or free kick.

  20. Steep learning curve, but with that manager and squad I have no doubt we will be back, better and stronger.

  21. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

A bad result changes nothing about the way I feel about the progress Celtic have made and are continuing to make.

A bad loss, yes, but never outclassed by a very classy team.

    After this setback,onward and upward.

    Naivety is temporary.

  22. Mea Culpa, 22:33

Indeed, we have come a long way, let’s not forget it.

And to the Hun interlopers here you’re going to have some interesting reading tomorrow and Thursday.

  23. We were good tonight, great in spells.

    We lacked though.

    Let me splain………………………………..

Defensively it looked liked our centre halfs had not played together since the 1st week in January. Wilson and Efe were so far apart for the first goal Juve could have drove the team bus thru and reverse parked it. Poor communication and even poorer anticipation 20k a week to 80k a week is the difference (TET thats the truth!!)

Wing/full backs immense. Izzy and Lustig were immense. I was really worried about the balls getting dropped behind them and exposing the centre halfs, especially Izzy but they were positionally good.

Midfield was excellent. By that I mean we managed to snuff out most of there play. Brown and Wanyama did what they do and did it well. Mulgrew likewise.

Commons burst his guts to score and in the end tried too hard. But credit where its due he burst a gut.

We didnt create. Not enough for the last 16. Can you remember the killer pass? Its a lesson we must take forward. We need to create atleast half as much as we snuff out.

To prove my point. Did hooper have a chance, Forrest didnt really do much either.

We played great. Fantastic and am so proud of the team tonight.

We need to be a bit more creative in the third. Just a wee bit more.

Rogic, I hope thats why we bought you.

If not we made enough cash this year to go out and get that ghuy.

  24. I don’t do twitter, but Ghirls said Joey Barton tweeted

He spent time in jail for less than the Juve defense ?

    Hail Hail

  25. Just back from game.

Immensely frustrating night. That was never a 0-3 game, and I bet Juve cannot believe their luck.

Having said that, the business end of the CL is a brutal place, where mistakes are punished and you can only pass up so many chances. This was a harsh, harsh lesson for our young team.

Juve were everything I expected them to be: clinical, cynical, and efficient. We missed Samaras big time, though I do wonder if the election of Forrest was a mistake? Ledley might have given us more ballast.

The difference between the teams is approximately £150million. They bring on Anelka, we bring on Watt. Their African Cup winner is rested, ours is pressed into service immediately.

Until UEFA get serious about financial fair play we will only go so far.

And the ref: entirely typical of what you expect. Every decision went to the “big country” team…

  26. Given the WWE display in the Juve box at corners, what exactly are Platini’s fairies standing behind the goals with their wands there for?

  27. Joseph Barton ‏@Joey7Barton

Marking from the corners for Juve, has been borderline GBH at times. I went to jail for much less… #celticvjuve

  28. Glendalystonsils likes a mr whippy with his lime green jelly on

No pain, no gain. Another valuable lesson for all of us, players, management and fans.

Another bit further up the learning curve . We can go the whole way, given time.

We are on the right road.
