Typical end of season stuff but I’d love to know why Kilmarnock played like their lives depended on it?

    Maybe Stevie Clarke was auditioning?

P.S. Stylish match report as ever.

  2. Statto out there

I reckon Celtic have record number of 0-0 draws this season for us

Right enough sure Rangers will still hold world record.

  3. glendalystonsils on

Apparently we had one shot on target tonight. Added to the one shot on target we had at Rugby park last time , that makes two shots on target in 180 minutes.

I don’t doubt that Killie have a well organised defence but they sure ain’t Helenio Hererra’s Inter Milan.

(And look what we did to them!)

  4. NFL on late telly news saying he will now consider his position with the Hibees in the summer…….????? POSSIBLE FALL OUT?????

  5. Cannot recall Killie having a single shot at goal. For all the plaudits Steve Clarke has been getting this season his style of play tonight was purgatory to watch. What was the point….they had nothing to lose so why not have a go. Seems to me they have only one way of playing and that is to prevent the opposition scoring. It would drive people away from football so it would.

I was thinking the about Clarke, showed himself as never a Celtic manager tonight. They were awful.

  7. RON67 on 9TH MAY 2018 10:20 PM

whats the matter with LG now , injured once again ,seems a recurring story all season.

    ———————————————————

Leigh was in hospital last week with a medical condition and had some scans. BR and Celtic are not at liberty to discuss someone’s medical problems in public. He’s back in training tomorrow.

  8. Gooooood Evening CQN- were still champions ??

    How people see things differently

For me Steve Clarke showed how to set up a team to defend in numbers, closing space, and cutting off supply to any forward ???

Maybe how we should play away in Europe, and hit on break with pace we have

I personally was dissapointed in a few Celtic players performance tonight, lack of movement for the ball or into space ??

    Hail Hail

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

Clarke set his team organised to defend, something we need to do in Europe

  10. It was an end of season performance that I witnessed tonight with little for either set of players to play.

And that is why we should not judge Ryan Christie on last night’s performance.

Ryan played well enough in his loan spell with the Dons to earn a second chance. He tailed off in the final month but he has had a better season overall than many Celts. He may not make it but, like Kris Ajer, he earned his chance. The same can not be said of other loanees like Kundai Benyu or Nadir Ciftci or many of the Devlopment squad, including Regan Hendry, who I thought might make it.

  11. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Not sure that I found the best stats on the subject, but according to TransfrMarkt. Com, as at 33 games completed this , we had received 35 yellow cards, Hertz had received 72 (more than double). We had been given 2 red cards, Hertz had been given 5 (that’s more than double too).

    This proves 2 things:

    1) I have a rudimentary grasp of arithmetic

    2) Hertz are dirty bassas

Levein has proved, over the years that there is nothing he will not do, to prevent losing a game of football. Notice I don’t say win a game of football, all he cares about is not losing. As a Manager he has sent out teams who are not set up to leave their own half. He has sent an International team out without a striker. He has sent out teams to foul and kick their way to a draw. He has managed in games where his team’s only tactic, over 90 minutes, is to break up opposition play. He will cut the grass/grow the grass/water the grass/not water the grass/narrow the pitch… whatever doesn’t suit the opponent. As a player he intimidated, fouled, held and kicked. He blootered the ball up the pitch, or out for a shy.

He is a strict adherent of Anti-Football. A dinosaur of a manager whose time is almost up.

He is at the right club. There is only one other club in Scotland that he would suit. Their time is almost up too.

That was a forgettable game of fitba tonight, still had a great night out though. Great meal in Coias in the excellent company of ACGR, Hot Smoked JJ and my son Ryan. Was great to meet Jobo in my first visit to the Standing Section courtesy of VFR, and to meet Emeraldbee, at half time when I returned to sit with my son in 102. Sorry I never realised before that he sits two rows behind me. In summary, poor game, great social night out.

  13. The younger Henderson Bhoy looked good when he came on.

That apart my most telling memory of tonight will be sitting for two hours in soaking wet jeans.

  15. Hooooops, thrown out blog there

Bada, while since I played snap ??

Didn’t think our front 3 worked Killie anywhere near enough

I am a big fan of Scott Sinclair, thought he was poor, and gave young Miller few options ( though young Miller struggled with pace of game)

James Forrest will never ever be a centre forward, like I you I would have played one of the youths in a natural position

Paddy constantly had 3 players on him, the only time it was 2 players, stonewall foul and booking, ignored by ref

Back to Killie set up, take Celtic out game by killing space, it worked

Incidentally I did not see anything wrong with disallowed goal ???

Beaton’s cards had gone on holiday. PR blatantly pulled back. No card.

PS my other standout moment was Broonie nipping in to nick the ball away from a Killie midfielder then shouting BOOOO in his face!!

  17. GreeninbingleyinOslo on

Fair play, Steve Clarke has done a great job at Killie this year in terms of pulling them up the league – they are now difficult to beat.

But they are even more difficult to watch. If Killie had any fans, they’d be deserting in droves. They play awful anti-football.

  18. Run out for some bench warmers tonight AND a tactics to confuse.

  19. Clarke has sussed the limitations of our playing system.

2 shots on target in last 2 games against Killie is proof of this.

Our inability to play a pass in front of the man helps our opponents.

Tonight we constantly passed behind man who then returned it so we could play more purposeless ring a ring a roses.

And our forwards need to learn what direction the opponents goal is?

Sinclair.Forrest and Paddy constantly received ball with their back to goal and then returned it to where it came from.

Looked like we were practicing possession rather than trying to win a football game.

I know it was an end of season game but our last 3 games against them have produced 2 draws and a defeat which suggests Clarke knows how to nullify Brendan.

  20. Big Stevie Clarke, who widda funk it ?

    Big Stevie learned at the feet of, Big Jose, Big “FOUR” European trophies Jose ;

The Celtic Way ? “ONE” European trophy in “FIFTY” years!

Who are the “REAL” gullibillys ?

If, the Kelly’s and White’s had given the keys of the dugoot to Jim McLean, in the early 80’s, Celtic FC would be furnished with more than “ONE” European trophy, imho.

Brendan looks exactly like what he is, an SPFL manager, but, ah luvvim!

He skelps Scottish pub teams, that’s for sure, but, that ain’t his fault, that Scottish fitba is rank, its David Murray’s fault.

Anywye, blessed is Mr Paul 67, for he is better, way better, than a clutch of European trophies, it is written, I have seen it.

    Stopping The Ten

That was a really good article, Paul.

    ———————–

I know I’m a bit late, but I’m sitting in my flat in Oslo, toasting the heroes of 98 with a glass of fiery Scotch.

I hate Scotch. But this is special Scotch.

I was living in Edinburgh in 1998. Me and my best mate Johnny couldn’t go to the game because of work, so we went to a pub and listened to it. Oh, the joy! The joy!

It was probably the Cask & Barrel on Broughton Street, because that was where I woke up next day.

Anyway, about a month later Johnny came over to my desk at work and said “here”, and gave me a bottle of Scotch with the Celtic crest on the label. In Emerald Green!

Above it were the words: To Mark Celtic Winning The Scottish Premier League Title, 1997-1998 and below it, it says ONE IN A ROW!

The first two drinks out of that bottle were poured for me and Johnny that night as we toasted One In A Row and watched the highlights again.

But Johnny, my best friend, suffered from depression, he struggled against it for most of his life, but it won, and he lost his life two years later. I’ll feel guilty about not being there until the day I die.

I’ve got the bottle in front of me now. Not much left in it, maybe about 4 inches, because whenever the Bhoys do something wonderful I’ll pour two drams and toast Johnny, then drink his as well, since he’s not here.

I’ll keep two tots for the Ten.

  22. GreeninbingleyinOslo on

And I meant to say that I also raise the glass, every time, to any and all who are blighted by this awful illness.

  23. Anyone able to confirm if we are seeded right the CL Qualifiers ?

Received a txt saying Liverpool qualifying through their league position guarantees this for us.

  24. Jimmynotpaul on

    Moravcik.

My understanding is if Liverpool finish in top 4 in their league, we will be seeded throughout all 4 rounds.

We are currently 5th seeds, but if the winners of champions league have already qualified, through their own league, then one of the teams, seeded above us ( I can’t remember who) will automatically qualify and not have to play qualifiers.

So in short we are almost there. If Liverpool don’t lose to Brighton, Chelsea don’t beat Newcastle, or if those two don’t happen then Real Madrid win The Big Cup then we will be seeded.

    Hail Hail

I see the resident bampot has a new hero for his white charger ,,,????

Not the most entertaining game I’ve been to this season, and like a few others have said maybe Celtic should try something similar against the behemoths of Europe if we get that far again.

Positives from last night, keeper distribution was better ?and no new injured players in our quest for a record breaking back to back TREBLES…

And still we get the Goldfish bowl brigade on knocking our efforts , saddo or sicko ?? dont know and dont care.

When I was younger I hated a programme called DR WHO , hated the stupid tune hated the clown with the big scarf, hated the daleks, to this day I still cant stand it and never watch it ,,,

However i know loads of people do ,,,,

So should I join one of their forums and every day go on and run the show down??? or maybe I should just get on with my life and leave them in peace…thats a tough one,,,, aye right,,,,,

  26. I watched the Edinburgh derby match and two things struck me.

The first was how the hell did Craig Thompson get the gig last night on the back of his shocking performance on Sunday? I know some will claim he was put in their to stop Hibs challenging Sevco’s second place aspirations. However, I’m never quite sure whether he just pure DOB and simply totally incompetent. There were times last night when he was both but the fact remains after Sunday he should have never been allowed to officiate another top level game in Scotland no matter how close he is to his retirement.

The second point is, there was not a player on the park that looked as though they would get on our bench never mind add value to our first team. This was particularly disappointing in the case of McGinn who hustled and bustled throughout but didn’t do that much to influence or change the game in any meaningful way other than a couple of decent crosses late on. I have watched him a few times this season and don’t see what the fuss is about. I think we let a better player, Liam Henderson, leave our club so wouldn’t see much sense spending a few million to bring him to CP. Let him go to the English Championship.
