The contact on Kyogo was a foul, therefore a penalty.
However – it was clear his arm played him offside, when Matt played the ball.
Nothing to see there, for me.
You can only be offside, with a part of your body, which can score a goal legally, the lines drawn from the Etch A Sketch mob said it was his arm,?.Unless I am mistaken HH

Before my bed – there has been some (welcome) debate on my take wrt Kyogo’s penalty claim.
My understanding is that you are offside with any part of the body that can legally play the ball; including your upper arm/ shoulder.
There are many better scholars of the game here than me, so happy to be set right but my assumption was that was why the penalty wasn’t given.

We played some nice stuff yesterday with a weaker squad than last year. Never in doubt when we have a manager of Brendan’s class, imagine what he could do if he gets the calibre of player he wants.
I said it before a ball is kicked we will win the TREBLE but for Europe we need upgrades.

Regarding the Kyogo penalty incident, the referee restarted the game with a drop ball to the goalkeeper on the 6-yard line, so there was no offside given against the Celtic striker.

Had a great day yesterday with my son and grandson and the Edinburgh No1 CSC.
Noticed quite a few empty seats but being the first week of August, a lot of supporters away on holiday.
What did concern me was how the hospitality sections at the rear of the Jock Stein lower and North Stand lower quickky empty in the10 minutes leading up to half-time as they make a mad dash for the free pies. Not a good look, and they missed the second goal.
Watched the rerun on Sky at 10pm. Delighted with the win and tbe performance. Top of the league on day 1. Couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Fun day ahead with the grandson- he wants to go to the local museum in Hanley. I’ll check it hasn’t been vandalised by the Nazi thugs yesterday.
I can NOT even think about the current Celtic squad in the CL this season… sorry to say UNTIL New players are signed.
As a wee Bonus on my Fitba Bets yesterday, I had Celtic to win by the Correct Score of 4 – 0 at 8/1 in a DOUBLE with The Dundee Derby finishing by the score of 2-2 at odds of 10/1 and 11/1 ….along with Two Singles.

Great shout on the Celtic – Dundee Derby double, great odds too
Good to see the latter fixture return to the SPL, Dundee Utd seem to have made some good signings, and both clubs have proper football managers in Jim Goodwin and Tony Docherty. Got a hunch too that Aberdeen with Jimmy Thelin in charge might move back towards the top six, though could be wrong, will get a better idea after their game at Perth tonight. Hope you’re on the mend

As good a weekend as we dared hope for.
The 2 biggest title challengers drop points and despite not yet signing Idah and having Maeda missing we comfortably despatch an opponent which was tricky at times last year.
Most encouraging was the clear step up in playing style. A marked difference from last season and indeed BR mark 1. Really entertaining football against a team whose only weapon was physical intimidation.
Bravery on the ball and bravery taking tackles and challenges but keeping the ball moving.
My only concern was if we keep playing like this and don’t get protection from referees we will get quite a few injuries. How Fraser Murray was not booked yesterday for his endeavour is astonishing.
Overall. Get Idah in this week, Taylor signed up longer term, use the next 2 or 3 to get Maeda properly fit and Barnardo / Iwata / Holm integrated. Have an option list should MOR depart and ideally as good a physical left sided central defender as we can get.
It will be harder to get upgrades on Scales and Taylor than many think IMO. Especially to slot in to the world of Celtic.
Assuming we get Idah I am less stressed Re another striker than some. 3 into one starting berth is not so easy to juggle. Maeda can also play his Japanese role in the CL for instance. So we do have options.

I was watching a CelticTV video on YouTube entitled “After the Match” which included close-up footage of the players walking in front of the South Stand and applauding the cheering supporters.
A beaming Kasper goes up to Matt, puts an arm around his shoulder and clearly says, “How can you walk away from all this?”
Matt smiles, shakes his head and turns towards the goalkeeper as he responds, so no chance of deciphering what he said.
Another season and a crack at Europe big man. You know it makes sense.

Morning all,
Was good to be back at CP yesterday and the performance by the whole team was fantastic. Hard to believe that was a “weaker” team than we ended last season with. I may yet have to begrudgingly praise BR, even if it sticks in my throat to do so. Here’s hoping we keep the squad we have for one more season and add to it for the campaign ahead.
The movement, pressing and work-rate off the ball was miles above most of what I watched last season which was often weak and passive. It was good to see an urgency even for throw ins to get it back in play asap and not dither and slow the game down as much as we seemed to last season.
Bar one failure to intervene for the clear penalty (assuming it was deemed onside as I’ve read here that Sky – who can hear the ref-VAR comms – have confirmed) VAR seemed to be less apparent also compared to last season when you felt like they were re-watching every ball in the box looking for anything to the detriment of the game.
The tifo looked naff from the North Stand but looked much better watching the highlights back though I’ve still no clue what the stands behind the goal were meant to be?! Also, was the tifo used to cover all the advertising boards around that stadium? Or were these covered before? I only noticed at half time but not sure what that was about?

While I was delighted with our performance yesterday, I am a fair bit concerned if Scales is to be our left sided CH in Europe. Way too often his passing lets him down, imo. Not only does the pass get intercepted often, he too often chooses the wrong option. In the first half yesterday in particular James Forrest was available for the pass, when Scales had it at his feet. I am sure I could count on the fingers of 1 hand how often Forrest received it.
