  1. Diazen Maeda cost a little over 1m pounds after a loan spell must be one of the best value buys ever for us.

  2. bournesouprecipe on

Plenty of swash not enough buckle.

Great to be in it to win it, after a fresh family type night atmosphere in Parkhead, Kilmarnock parked up in the same old way and we set about them in the same old way. Free from the tedium of winning like ‘robots’ 4-0 in the league, this Scottish Cup tie had an identity of its own, as old friends rolled up Celtic way.

BR reverted to his preferred eleven starters who came up short in a first half of missed opportunity and the single counter attacking close call equaliser after captain Calmac’s sweet strike. Possession whatever its level of intensity becomes a worthless statistic, no prolific chance takers in Celtic’s style of play which dictates you have to score, and keep scoring.

Celtic regular scorers struggle through the law of averages to get to their goals which are spread through the squad, midfielders have had as much chance of being top scorer, as strikers. Not a bad thing, but with no prolific player, wastefulness can add up. Daizen Maeda always a preferred starter, might miss but revels in his own constitution that he won’t, and it’s made him a same net and staunchion finding hero of the Parkhead faithful.

No player to ‘put a foot on the ball’ and slow down ‘intensity’ has been the case for the last four or five managers, not seasons. The style, remains to pass, and it becomes like two touch, only Nicolas Kuhn keeps the ball, where he comes off the wing to be our biggest threat. Small wonder he is wrapped in cotton wool instead of trying to play the Brendan way, which at the moment seems like every other day, where even the cost of the Paradise Windfall tots up to a small fortune.

Did we ask Ange Postecoglu to ‘change it’, or was his, we never stop style duely lapped up, nobody ever wrote to the Celtic View to chastise Jock Stein for being too beautiful at his football, odd that BR who has also been successful elsewhere should come under the microscope. I blame the internet, which feeds a board verse manager division that might not even exist, other than in the fertile minds that don’t like one Celt and would prefer another.

    MOM Calum MacGregor

Special mention for the Jungleside linesman that couldn’t keep his flag down, long enough to make Daizen a victim of the offside rule, maybe he just couldn’t contain himself.

  3. BOURNESOUPRECIPE @ 11:59 AM,

    Yes, excellent synopsis as per…

Less possession than Dens Park, several more shots and specifically more shots on target…

We are up for the Cup….

    Hail Hail

    Into the next round. Tick.

On another day … etc …

Another mixed bag of a performance.

Parts of it were very good indeed.

    Couple of concerns for me.

We take too long to react to the opposition’s tactical changes.

In this case, Ndaba was pushed further forward. That was it. No genius involved.

Once that happened, Kilmarnock dirtied up the game as per McInnes intentions.

Bouncing balls, ball in the air, head tennis, press the flanks … all to choke the game.

When we got sucked into it?

Kilmarnock invariably secured possession in our half.

The few times we played simple, obvious passes quickly?

We broke through their lines easily.

I hope and think we’ve been managing the squad’s energy over the last month … and will be well up for it on Wednesday.

I think Rodgers has erred massively by sending Lenny Agbaire out on loan.

    I watched 3 minutes 10 seconds of highlights of Ayr’s 8-0 victory.

Although I only saw Lenny touch the ball once … he was clearly majestic throughout (shades of Van Dijk)

And, as I understand it, he has followed Celtic all his life.

    Broxburn didn’t get a sniff.

He’s clearly ready for the Champions League.

See how easy this verbal horse manure is?

No facts or a functioning cortex required.

A foghorn, a desperate emotional need, and a giddy imagination will get it done.

PS – a certain Jake Hastie played in the same game.

How the mighty (and the waistline) have fallen.

The performance at Atalanta was given plenty credit as a rare and successful alteration in style. Some Atalanta fans were having a laugh in the town with us after the game saying where was our famous Celtic way and saying in banter that we were adopting the ‘bolt’ as the famous catenatcio style was known as. They were giving us credit though.

I don’t recall noting any other alterations in style of any significance other than a potentially fatal negative performance in Zagreb.

Hopefully things work for us on Wednesday and Young Boys are as bad as it seems and also undercooked and just playing Brendan’s plan A is enough to get us through. It would be a real shame given the format, spend vs rivals and our draw of games if we don’t at least get to the 24.

B2B, that was funny, your link to the BBC report on the next Ranjurs superstar Jake Hastie. I checked his record and he appeared ZERO times for Thems over two seasons, so more made-up pash from the BEEB. Whodda thunkit?

    Ave Ave

  9. BURNLEY78 @ 12:49 PM,

Well, totally accept that the Atalanta game was a “one off”, strategy.

Yet, when we drew with Athletico at Celtic Park, we changed to five at the back.

A lot of tactical changes are a lot more subtle, and why would we go “bolt” style or five at the back domestically.

I saw quite a few changes in yesterday’s game as a result of Kilmarnock doing the high press.

One of the criticisms of the team this season is few shots outside the box.

Yet due to having a wee bit more space in the front of the Killie defence we were able to get some shots away…

Kyogo fizzed one by the post, Kuhn hit the bar, Hatate got a worldie* from O’Hara and Calmac scored a beaut.

We have got to hope we have enough for Young Boys, as you say, we should have…

BTW: Your Dad was around during the Stein era – did he ever have a chat with Jock about changing his system;)

    Hail Hail

  10. Rewatched the game and I thought we had some really great spells of fast flowing soccer and if our Japanese stars had their shooting boots on the match was over at half time. Some really poor finishing throughout. I still think their goal was a deliberate hand ball whether his hand was by his side or not. Sometimes we could do with a bit more composure and less frantic movements. Luke i# a really composed footballer and we should be giving him more match time than 3 minutes.

  11. I thought he touched the ball with his left hand not his right arm hard to see, poor picture but VAR would have better graphics.

    SPOT ON…!

Those who choose to hate Brendan Rodgers will have their wish at some point.

In the meantime, I will enjoy all of the success that Brendan brings to the club.

Well done Barry Robson’s Raith Rovers E.T.

  16. Some of our attacking play, when we got round to it was very good, but I will not back off from too many balls played back and across in our own half. Its ridiculous the time we waste doing this takes too long.Funny thing is,if an opposing goalkeeper taking too long with his kick outs,or a player taking too long on a shy, murder on here.I can assure you we waste more time ourselves.Doing it in our own half does nothing.Opponents just stay where thy are. They could nip off for a quick fag sometimes.Worse,it causes mistakes. Some mortal.CCVs OG could still prove to be,caused by a load of the nonsense I am on about.

If you like it fine,I don’t and wont be changed.

Do you have a problem doing that? If so direct me to the publication you read it on

  18. All the talk whether the killie player moved it on with his hand . Had it been kyogo or hatate who did it we all know what the decision would have been . We are being viewed by the Belgian , mcinnes et al that we can be taken , all stems from a terrible performance against thems a few weeks ago , a performance that gave the Hxxx belief . And at the same time deflated us bhoys , we have them on quality . But they have us on aggression, they lay it onto our timid players and get away with it , we need a couple of tough guys in our side .

i agree with some of your stuff and you shoot from the hip but equating our passing around with the goalie timewasting is some of the biggest shyte I’ve ever read :)

Add to the fact that we seem to have a very compliant bunch of soup takers doing the media these days nodding along with it.

Peter Grant last night and Sutton at their game v Dundee 2 weeks ago are prime examples of it.

  21. Feel for Ange with Levy and the crap contract he has I don’t reckon he has long to go. Still he bolted down there pronto from us and so it’s of his own making.

Delighted for Moyes. I really hope he finishes well above the pond life of a support at West Ham. They hounded him out when he had given them their best results and position in years.

Say something mildly critical about the manager and you “hate” him.

What a world we live in.

Here’s one for those who think the manager can do no wrong and is above criticism: I believe we are over-coached.

Is that a good or bad thing?
