Lots of talk about teams pressing us and being able to bully us, not sure that is accurate, we are guilty of overplay at the back in an attempt to break a press and seem determined to continue down that path even when it’s not effective. Its not a celtic thing persay its common these days. Given the pace in our front line we should be looking to play more ball over the top and pushing our midfielders up the pitch, not always, but enough to create jeopardy for teams that wanna press.
Ps If it’s good enough for Madrid, barca, Liverpool etc then it is good enough for us too.

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25*
*RESULTS FROM GAME #34 CELTIC KILMARNOCK ()*
Good evening, friends.
So, the good guys progress to the 5th round in a game where we had loads of opportunities to win convincingly but ultimately were glad to hear the final whistle.
Kilmarnock kicked off but after only 20 seconds Celtic had a great chance as Kuhn was sent clear through the middle. A slightly heavy touch resulted in a clash with Robbie McCrorie which saw the Kilmarnock keeper having to be replaced after a lengthy stoppage. Absolutely no blame on Kuhnβs part but a nasty collision all the same.
The frantic start continued and in the 7th minute Kilmarnock won a free kick on the edge of Celticβs box. Murrayβs excellent free kick was met with a fingertip save by Kasper onto the bar. The rebound came crashing back and Celtic broke quickly, Kuhn playing in Maeda and Daisen should have done better than just hit straight at OβHara, Kilmarnockβs replacement keeper.
But a few minutes later and the breakthrough came. Captain Calum β who had started very well β engineered some space and drove towards the Kilmarnock box. McGregor composed himself and then fired a fine left foot shot low into the keeperβs left hand corner to give Celtic a well deserved lead.
The next half hour saw several good chances fall to Kyogo, Hatate and Kuhn but in first half stoppage time it was Kilmarnock who got the next goal. Johnston could perhaps have done better to stop the delivery into the box but nevertheless we went into the break all square.
An unwelcome feature of the first half (which continued after the break) was some very uncharacteristic poor distributions from Schmeichel. Fortunately, none of these were punished but it was very unlike our best ever goalkeeper.
Around the hour mark I had the feeling that Celtic were beginning to turn the screw, fighting more for possession and increasing the pressure around the Killie box. And in the 69th minute Celtic regained the lead. Good work from Kuhn coming inside from the right and then feeding a fine pass to Maeda who, this time, made no mistake. And just 2 minutes later we nearly socred again. Twice! Kuhnβs fine strike rebounded off the bar out of the area to Hatate who fired a fine strike on the half volley which OβHara tipped round the post.
Kilmarnock remained threatening but in the 87th minute were caught on the break with Idah rampaging from the edge of our own box. Celtic were 4 on 1 on this breakaway and when Idah fed Kuhn, a goal looked certain. However the Kille goalkeeper deflected Nicolasβs effort behind and was promptly awarded a goal kick for his efforts!
3 minutes later, Maeda had the ball in the net but was correctly flagged for offside.
In the end a 2-1 victory and a bit more positive from Celtic which will hopefully increase the confidence going into our next game.
We have now played 34 games this season, winning 25, drawing 7 and losing 2. We have scored 93 and conceded 28 (domestically itβs 83-18 and in Europe itβs 10-10). Thank you so much to the 78 who voted this time around. The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.
Schmeichel: 1
Johnston: 1
Carter-Vickers*: 6
Trusty: 16
Taylor: 6
McGregor*: 58
Engels: 5
Hatate: 30
Kuhn: 44
Kyogo: 14
Maeda*: 44
Bernardo: 2
Idah: 0
Scales: 1
McCowan: 0
And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Kilmarnock are –
McGregor β 5 points
Kuhn and Maeda β 4 points each
Hatate β 2 points
Trusty β 1 point
And the overall positions after 34 games played are –
Our next game sees us return to the Champions League for arguably our most significant game of the season. The rewards for success are clear but we really do need to be on our game for this one. Itβs Celtic v Young Boys on Wednesday evening with an 8.00pm kick off.
Hail Hail!

We have a team which has won 3 successive leagues and been augmented by expensive signings to fit our managers needs.
We have a far bigger budget than many of the rivals we are vying with to be in the top 24.
We have had a far easier draw than many of our competitors with many of the teams in our path having below par seasons.
We are against a team desperately struggling in their domestic league who are coming into their second competitive game in over a month.

AT – it is B78,every Celtic fan watching on telly know this,as do us lucky enough to attend
B78-I know it is only to reach the last 24 and not the last 16 as WGS twice and Neil did on much lower budgets but it is something we should be able to do.
AT – You have a problem here B78? With Celtic budget of how they spend OUR money.
why no mention of the numerous times outwith those 3 seasons you mention where we had abject failure on the same ‘lower budget’ why are you cherrypicking the years where club ambition met fans ambition? There is more of those type of seasons than the 3 you pick
B78We may never have a better chance to do this than this season.
AT with hope in our hearts B78 i feel that every season we start out
B78 We have a team which has won 3 successive leagues and been augmented by expensive signings to fit our managers needs.
AT CORRECTION – FIT OUR CLUBS NEEDS,Our club back our manager, you appear not to.you are preparing to fail B78,your recent posts have shown an increasing lack of confidence, setting our manager away from our board,as above, they are one,you are not.
The question has got to be asked is what exactly is your problem?
B78We have a far bigger budget than many of the rivals we are vying with to be in the top 24.

Again preparing to fail you will fail stuff of our competitors having below par seasons.B78 your writing is reading that of a grudgin hun attempting to divide and rule Celtic, they are not as subtle as you,but it reminds me of a hun trying to poke holes in where we are.
B78 We are against a team desperately struggling in their domestic league who are coming into their second competitive game in over a month.
AT it does not matter,it is how we are prepared mentally and physically for our game on wed.
Look to us,how we set out and hopefully get our victory
B78-Our opponents drew with the second bottom team in the Swiss league on Saturday and have the worst record of all teams in the CL this season.
AT means nowt, they qualified foe champuons league, many did not, including the team you see ‘green shoots’ of recovery from-they failed
B78 We will have 59000 supporters roaring the team onto succeed and desperate to see us reach the next stage.
AT i question your backing b78,this last week has been nothing but bizarre nonsense from you which is not what is expected from you in the run up to a major tie
B78 If we cannot come through this game and set ourselves up potentially for a top 16 place then it really will be a huge disappointment
AT we have had bigger disappointments B78,i take no part in you prep to fail chat, lets support the club,Brendan and the team when they take the field, not parts ,100% and lets have no i told you so which seems your post plans for thursday

Get behind Celtic and make it a positive night.

You once. Introduced me to a fellow Celtic supporter at a POTY dinner as β The most negative Celtic supporter that you know.β
Are you after my title ?

Remember sitting behind 2 Auld fellas at the League Cup final , big Julienne got the winner , and the 2 of them were giving the team and everyone in it pelters.
When Moreorless fluffed his penalty and big Fraser made a splendid save , the consensus from the near octogenarianβs in front of me was β I could have saved that β. β¦. But hey there weβre having a great time !

Huge game on Wednesday.
We may never have a better chance to do this than this season.
We will have 59000 supporters roaring the team onto succeed and desperate to see us reach the next stage.
If we cannot come through this game and set ourselves up potentially for a top 16 place then it really will be a huge disappointment.

Agree with all of the above.

Much as i disagree with B78 in attitude to Wednesday and our club in general,he is real, authentic, not afraid to meet folk and does NOT have the range of personas that a few on here have.

Lets be confident and up for it on wed night my friend.
Hope all well with youπ
