I guess the owners have to have a board to comply with the necessary plc needs.

I agree that Desmond has the final say and having a guy who lamented the loss of Rangers from the top league calling them a great club etc means nothing will change.

  3. My match day consisted of the radio

    Miss GFTB

Just home … she loves cup ties at home so she can go to the game (with her pal am ditched but still using my finances)

Doesn’t give a fluck about SFA, Sevco, Rangers, ClydeSSB, the daily record or the board

    She just loves Celtic

And … she loves James Forrest as well 🍀

Home safe n sound and buzzing

I now realise when my own mum used to be happy when I returned home from Celtic park, I used to think she made a fuss out of nothing … many years later o now understand

    Semi final = job done

    Still 100% behind Brendan 🍀

Found it, good pay rise if you can get it mate.

Tom Allison, Brian Wilson and Dermot Desmond have been awarded 62.5% pay rises to take their Celtic salaries from £25,000 up to £40,000. Ian Bankier also picks up that figure as a salary after stepping down as Chairman.27 Oct 2023

Hun Craigan’s only reaction to Maeda’s second goal was — It wasn’t going in. Dick

  7. We will take the win on another day Maeda scores 5.

BBBBBBUT. please no more Scales and Welsh they are well below the level we expect of a of a Celtic player.

We need to move the ball quicker from defence too pedantic.

Sometimes just sometimes come forward and brop the ball over the opposition 2 banks of 5 oh and ffs shoot now and again.

Never mind Pistol Pete said he was for the off in the summer so hopefully the biscuit tin will be opened.

That is why BR will be sticking around.

Oh and also if we got 10 or 11 million for Abadda then is that not about 80 million in bank.

    Good stuff.

    b78…

folk would maybe agree with or see where you are coming from if you were even the slightest bit even handed in your appraisal of the current shitshow that is celtic.

“Maybe every bitter jealous types who would rather moan about sacking boards and Palestine than back the team might play a part in destabilising the team ? Maybe a manager telling players they are not good enough publicly”

“moan” about Palestine – get a feckin grip – moan about genocide. next you’ll be telling us we should be siding with tories/labour too.

also, who has actually backed the team the most for the past few years ? the GB and the away support. And who did the board ban ? and who did they let back in for the hun game ?

and who have these folk to back the team for ? who should they sing and dance for ? cos you get absolutely zero vocal backing of the team from the main stand.

destablising the team ? who planned for the recruitment ? who planned for the Asia Cup ? who plans year on year for europe and the resultant pumping and then selling of the assets ?

does letting their lapdogs in the msm and on here moan and whinge about the manager (who I am no fan of at all) not destabilise the camp ?

come on – take the blinkers off

Am no board lover but pretty sure the Lawell family are Celtic fans so surely practice what you preach mate :-)

Or is it do as I say not as I do

    Sanctimonious

    excessively or hypocritically pious

Bring on the semi final draw …

Hope ex-Celt Ryan Mullen gets a wee shut out against Hearts tomorrow night

  11. Some of the utter dross and delusional nonsense has me in stitches.

Nothing to do with the board it’s all down to Desmond .

Yet less than 2 years ago our squad was full of highly functional experienced players.

So Desmond at that time was doing very well.

So who hired Mark Lawwell? You want me to believe that was Desmond, really?

So who hired Peter Lawwell, Desmond again. Wow this guy hires dogs and barks himself.

Ahh but wait, our rapid decline can be traced back to buying under 23 players for mostly less than 3M.

So that strategy is also the fault of Desmond? He changed a winning strategy, really?

This guys hires people for millions every year and still makes the decisions, micro manages, yet still runs several other larger businesses, only employs them because he has too.

    B78 I’m embarrassed for you.

  12. GFTB – Never said the Liwells were not Celtic fans but money corrupts.

What do I have to practice what I preach?

If its regarding calling out the corrupt goings on of our board then I am afraid that will never stop. I call out when something is wrong.

I do not think I have called a fellow Celtic supporter an Idiot……. yet.

    D. :)

  13. Sid 8.22pm

Can you point out our “rapid decline” ?

First loss in a domestic cup competition for a few years, 2pts behind in the title still in the Scottish Cup

    Rapid decline ???

Try and enjoy being a Celtic fan mate, it could be worse

  14. ONIL

I really hope I am wrong but I reckon won’t win for a few years now.

Ange was a rabbit pulled from the hat by Mark Lawwell and sold by Peter to the owner.

Brendan was the owner who asked the ceo to sort out a deal after Brendan showed interest.

I don’t know if Brendan is the answer or not but time and another year will tell. He will be backed of course but I am not sure that we can halt their momentum and our own apathy / negative momentum. Spending on players isn’t a panacea. A new recruitment structure and business model will not be easy to put in place and there are huge adjustments to make now.

My hope in life was that we would be ahead of that lot in both trophies won and leagues won by the time my time was up. We got so close last year and it was possible next year. Sadly now it looks unlikely. Hence my frustrations where folks take our recent dominance for granted.

  15. Haven’t read back but I have only one thing to say about today’s game: we cannot play Scales and Welsh any more as our central defence pairing. we need at least one in there who can pass the ball forward to one of our players. Oh, it was great to see James Forrest getting a game. Hopefully, he gets more game time.

  16. David66

Again .. am no board lover .. it’s just about the team and the bhoys on the park .. maybe the Liewell patter seems more annoying than the idiot patter

Am happy with being an idiot but liar is a bit stronger :-)

Again .. who cares … my kid going to the game today asking me her to get her out of her bed to 6hrs before kick off ??? A bit like young Riley (sic) getting his ticket for Killie away … that’s what Celtic is … f any board :-)

My 13yr old (14 tomorrow) grandson went to the game today with his pal.

His usual lifts , his uncle or his pals da couldnae take him.

No problem papa, I will just go into the big tree pub and ask if we can go on their bus.sorted.

His gran was panicking but he was taken and well looked after by all on the bus.

  19. My friends in Celtic,

I have a certain alignment for Burnley 78’s views regarding fan engagement.

I am currently at work and it was very easy to be hyper opioniated from a nice warm room with a big screen TV.

Withiin reason, I will always be on the side of fans who make the time, effort and financial commitment to brave the elements and physically watch our team.

I thought it was a dour performance but a great result.

    HH the journey continues.

Big tree pub has been buzzing since my Carlsberg van lost a pallet of beer at that junction 😁

  21. Sid

So you think Nicholson really decided who the manager was going to be and who we signed ?

Or are you thinking he is too well paid to make those decisions ?

Next you will be saying the shower scene after the cup final was a wet dream and Dermot wasn’t really there.

And of course the player trading model would T be the ceo either ?

Do you really think the non execs lead the strategy ?

  22. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Just watching the highlights again. Kuhn was superb all game and we could easily have scored 7 or 8.

Our defence though, dearie me. The Livi shot off the post, the through ball Hart beat the forward to, the free header past the post in the 2nd half, Hart’s point blank save at 2-2…

Welsh in particular was poor today. The 2nd goal was mostly on O’Riley, but it’s Welsh that makes the initial pass when there’s a man on him, jogs languidly rather than sprinting back to provide cover, then fails to double up. Rotten. He was also hopeless on the first goal.

A lot of interest from the continent. Sell in the summer and bring Lawal back up the road.

  23. Had the game on in the background today, because we were having a family party, so I will need to watch again to fully comment. From the little I saw- it was good to see Kuhn can get out of first gear and show promise, AJ has his mojo back and Jamesie was always a class act. Oh! and Sevco’s penalty was a joke

  24. Spikeysauldman

I take your point but just a quick counter Re Palestine. Something I know we do agree on.

How many in our crowd today were so concerned about Palestine that they have even attended one actual demo about it ?

By all means they seem fine using Celtic as a means to protest by association.

Sadly the answer to my question might be fewer than 2 or 3 % which shows the level of real concern amongst the flag wavers.

Of the 3000 at last weeks rally I would say maybe even less. Interesting to me was that quite a few I was chatting with there were heading to Ibrox after to see their team play Motherwell. Not taking their political views with them though.

    Tom McLaughlin

The next time you say something interesting on here will be the first time, but keep trying.

    Burnley

Your ad hominem attacks are so one dimensional and tedious. If you’re part of the brains trust in the posh seats along with all the other St Aloysius FPs we really are in trouble.

See the remuneration of the CEO and non-execs in the accounts. That’s the definition of them taking money out. I and others that go to the games are the definition of those putting money in. Economics for beginners.

PS no chance Nicholson and Lawwell before him make those sums in other walks of life, no matter what they say at the AGMs about paying the ‘going rate’. Ange carried them both an Rodgers before that. Believe it.

  26. Greenpinata

Fans in the stadium today were mostly good and got behind the team when needed in my opinion. Not sure if I made that clear.

    SFTB

Maclean was at his worst today. Their manager runs the game by towering over the 4th official every game. Constantly in his ear. It is no surprise they are getting away with murder. Diomande is a cheating wee scumbag of the type we have seen there for decades. Horrible type.

  27. B78

It is obvious Desmond isn’t the one dictating the strategy.

The strategy changed after Peter Lawwell left then changed back to the old ways on his return.

Desmond was responsible for picking BR but neither BR or Desmond was responsible for the horrendous recruitment that signed 24 players with barely one better than what we had.

It’s this failure that has us in the mess we’re in. That’s on the CEO and the board. Their positions will be untenable because that squad is winning nothing.

  28. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

    Burnley

Just read you’re follow up post.

What’s libellous about stating facts? Do tell. Based on that stouter I don’t doubt you took the jurisprudence prize in your student days.

Also love your invention of the word ‘significant’ to add weight to,your point. You’re a class act pal, keep up the misrepresentation of what others say. Although be careful, you don’t want to end up subject to a libel action.

  29. Protests need to be made where they will garner the most publicity, calling out genocide should be a given, every day of the week.

Anyone who disputes this has an ulterior motive and would rather that the crimes of the bastard state of israel not be highlighted.

    Call them out.

    Every where, every time.

  30. Just back from game and reading back. My take?

    a) Just happy we’re in the semis

    b) Had a real close-up view of Kuhn in first half and the boy did well….. very well and with a bit more confidence could have taken on a shot or two. Noticeably, crowd warmed to him and wasn’t on his back

    c) On another day Daizen could have scored 6!

    d) Time to make amends to Gustaf and get Rocky fit. Welsh and Scales not doing the business. One or the other maybe…maybe….but not together.

    e) If Matt has been ill all week, then ok, he can be forgiven but still well below his best

    f) Great wee cameo from Jamsie

    g) Surely we can make room for two up front

Lots of young kids around us really enjoying the thrill of a Celtic win, our grandson included. Same sort of buzz as GFTB described. Brilliant.

Missed catching up with An Tearmann before the game due to grandson’s enthusiasm to get into the ground early. Next time, D.

  31. Latchfordsbelly

So you agree it is in the accounts ?

So you think we can operate without paying execs ?

So you think a plc can operate without non execs ?

How do you conclude what the pay should be for these ? T/O or Profit or Profile or what ?

You know how a non exec remuneration works. You are not daft.

If the monies going out were crazy or related to hoarding cash then fair enough I would support your argument. They are not so I don’t really get your point.

Funnily enough there are 2 OA’s sit next to me and I also did go there. Nicholson also went there but Peter Lawwell definitely did not. I don’t think this has much of a bearing. I do know over my time as a Celtic supporter I have paid my way and feel the past 20 years (especially the past 7 and even more so the Ange spell I have felt I got value) …. That is for sure. I get you feel different and wonder if Celtic has ever made you happy.

  32. Tuesday 10th

It has been a fairly normal day in my present circumstances. My weight is 59. 3 kgs. and I have no medical problems. I have seen some birthday greetings from relatives and friends in yesterday’s paper which I got today. Also I received a bag of toiletries today.

There is no priest in tonight, but the chief medical officer dropped in, took my pulse, and left. I suppose that makes him feel pretty important.

From what I have read in the newspapers I am becoming increasingly worried and wary of the fact that there could quite well be an attempt at a later date to pull the carpet from under our feet and undermine us — if not defeat this hunger-strike — with the concession bid in the form of ‘our own clothes as a right’.

This, of course, would solve nothing. But if allowed birth could, with the voice of the Catholic hierarchy, seriously damage our position. It is my opinion that under no circumstances do they wish to see the prisoners gain political status, or facilities that resemble, or afford us with the contents of, political status.

The reasons for this are many and varied, primarily motivated by the wish to see the revolutionary struggle of the people brought to an end. The criminalisation of Republican prisoners would help to furnish this end.

It is the declared wish of these people to see humane and better conditions in these Blocks. But the issue at stake is not ‘humanitarian’, nor about better or improved living conditions. It is purely political and only a political solution will solve it. This in no way makes us prisoners elite nor do we (nor have we at any time) purport to be elite.

We wish to be treated ‘not as ordinary prisoners’ for we are not criminals. We admit no crime unless, that is, the love of one’s people and country is a crime.

Would Englishmen allow Germans to occupy their nation or Frenchmen allow Dutchmen to do likewise? We Republican prisoners understand better than anyone the plight of all prisoners who are deprived of their liberty. We do not deny ordinary prisoners the benefit of anything that we gain that may improve and make easier their plight. Indeed, in the past, all prisoners have gained from the resistance of Republican jail struggles.

I recall the Fenians and Tom Clarke, who indeed were most instrumental in highlighting by their unflinching resistance the ‘terrible silent system’ in the Victorian period in English prisons. In every decade there has been ample evidence of such gains to all prisoners due to Republican prisoners’ resistance.

Unfortunately, the years, the decades, and centuries, have not seen an end to Republican resistance in English hell-holes, because the struggle in the prisons goes hand-in-hand with the continuous freedom struggle in Ireland. Many Irishmen have given their lives in pursuit of this freedom and I know that more will, myself included, until such times as that freedom is achieved.

I am still awaiting some sort of move from my cell to an empty wing and total isolation. The last strikers were ten days in the wings with the boys, before they were moved. But then they were on the no-wash protest and in filthy cells. My cell is far from clean but tolerable. The water is always cold. I can’t risk the chance of cold or ‘flu. It is six days since I’ve had a bath, perhaps longer. No matter.

Tomorrow is the eleventh day and there is a long way to go. Someone should write a poem of the tribulations of a hunger-striker. I would like to, but how could I finish it.

Caithfidh mé a dul mar tá tuirseach ag eirí ormsa.

    (Translated, this reads as follows):

Must go as I’m getting tired.

  33. Latchfordbelly

    Ok on reading back

you implied it perhaps fits better so maybe not libellous lol

  34. GFTB

Surprised you can’t see the rapid decline in the playing staff. Here’s a wee clue, 24 players signed with one holding down a place in the first 11 every week.

Keep supporting Celtic in your own style, i love it and remember to accept other fans who look and strive for improvement. Their is a place for both styles, no right or wrong.

  35. Sid

    No point in arguing this.

You simply want a bogey man to blame.

Tell me why a man in a non exec role (paid a non exec pay) would seek and be able to exert such influence over a signing policy which would actually hamstring his own son from signing better players ? For zero personal financial gain.

No sense in that to this fan anyway ?

Also please advise where we did spend big, in the intervening 2 year period where you suggest Peter Lawwell was not involved, on any players ?

2 simple questions to answer ?

  36. Rodgers has said many times that missing players are our downfall

I know what he means but if be is talking about McGregor , Hatate and CCV then 2 have played in a lot of games and Hatate was not picked much before injury. Abada has been sold so doesn’t count.

If we get those 3 back in the team tomorrow, we would still have dilemmas across the front 3, no back up for O’Reilly and have 1-2 poor defenders in every game

If we had Starfelt and Jota injured as well, i’d see his point but they are away

If losing 2-3 players makes us erratic, we are in trouble

Bet we win at Ibrox though😎
