Am always getting things incorrect so might just stick to “loads in a row” :-) I do agree with you, the more that Celtic fans talk or sing of 8, 9 or 10 @ row it unwittingly justifies their cheating bank of Scotland sponsored titles …

Get those titles stripped … Hope autocorrect keeps that clean :-)

Yon Natcho Novo used to sniff oot chances right enough.

What hurts them the most is that they know we know :-)

I don’t even slag the Huns I know anymore, I just smile even after our capitulation on the 29th December they hate seeing this Tim smiling :-)

“tons in a row” liking it, if only we could find a word that rhymes with tons ???

  4. I don’t particularly care too much if the next manager is a Celtic man or not.

What Celtic need is a coach who is at the cutting edge. A guy adopting modern coaching methods and will be able to stimulate young players.

Brendan Rodgers brought all this to the table. I fear we won’t be able to get a coach of his caliber to replace him.

David Moyes would have been a fine appointment 15 years ago but football has moved on. I wouldn’t want any MON or Roy Keane combination either.

In the English Championship Alex Neil and Graham Potter are doing pretty well with small budgets. Steve Clarke has done the same with Kilmarnock. None of

these guys fill me with excitement.

Neither does Neil Lennon truth be told.

  5. I am conscious that Neil Lennon has been getting it tight from a large proportion of the fan-base, particularly after the draw on Saturday.

I would temper any current frustrations as both he and the players need our support to get the title concluded, and the Scottish cup won.

The key observation from the Livi game, would be the tactics / formation. It definitely looked like a 3 at the back. And with Edouard up top, it would seem it was a 3-4-2-1 …. Or simplified a 3-6-1 . Christie and Rogic were more advanced than Brown and McGregor, but by n large that was the shape.

That in itself cannot be criticised. Experimenting and going 3 at the back. It is something that Rodgers done to a fair degree. Particularly in the double treble season, he quite often played a 3-4-2-1. So I don’t overly think Lennon should be called out for starting like this.

My concern, from a coaching / management perspective is that we persisted with 3 centre halfs on Saturday, until Benckovic went off around the 78mins mark. This is where I have question marks on Lennon’s capacity to see things.

Livi played with 6 sometimes 7 players strung across the back. Their 18 yard line was overcrowded. Between the 18 yard line, and say 25 yards from their goal, it was an absolute sea of bodies. There was no space.

Now to my mind, and I may be wrong, but to open up such a congested defensive line… I believe the key is width. Not only do you need your 2 wingers (left and right), but you also need attacking full-backs, who push high up and over-lap. The best way to break down a packed defensive line, to my mind is to get in behind the line, get to the byeline, get them turning towards their own goal, then get decent crosses cut-back from the byeline. Now I believe this to be true. If I can see this, then I really would of expected Lenny and the coaches to make the necessary adjustment much earlier than they did.

I find it pretty bamboozling that so many Celtic supporters are against the appointment of Neil Lennon on a full time basis.

Tom English is running a twitter vote and at the moment the poll is 70 odd percent against his appointment.

Rodgers failed to breakdown teams like Livi and also failed against the robust approach from Hearts. Moreover he failed to find a way past Hibs and this led to us failing to win the league at Easter Road last season.

Lennon also shows more promise in his approach toEuropean games than Rodgers had. Rodgers would never have gotten that result against Barca that Lennon had due to his puritanical approach to attacking regardless of the percentage likelihood of success.

From the candidates who are being promoted on social media, I am unsure of the credentials of any to deliver 9 then 10 in a row. Martinez was mediocre at Everton, Clarke has made the most of Kilmarnock but I do wonder how much he has made from the plastic pitch. If you had asked me before Lennon was made interim manager I would certainly have gone for Clarke but his public thanks to Chelsea for taking him away from the West of Scotland leave me thinking he may turn down the opportunity.

It is laughable that some folk think an unknown foreign manager would deliver the trophies and European wins we need over the next 2 years. I have seen folk touring Marco Rose, some other bloke who manages in Austria, mangers from Argentina etc.

I have doubts about Lennons application. I have no foundation for that other than the hours that Rodgers claimed to work and the changes that he made at Lennoxtown. Of course Deila was sandwiched between Lennon and Rodgers so it may be unfair to say that the standards that Rodgers introduced were not there before Deila took on the reins but by Lennons own admission the governance and practices and legacy of Rodgers methods are something to behold. So does Lennon continue those good things and bring in his own practices to enhance what Rodgers has left?

Lennons approach to nutrition and fitness was called into question by Deila given the removal of fizzy drink machines and changes in players diets. There seemed to be a more meticulous measurement of fitness and body fat percentages which would be a no brainer for any football club at our level.

In my view if Lennon can turn up the diligence level beyond what he had in his last tenure and look for new methods then he should be our manager.

    Ruggyman,

The way we have broken down teams who sit in has been from corners and set pieces or players like Roberts or Rogic dribbling and shooting. Rarely do we create the angles to pass through teams who sit inside their 18 yard box. Lazy shooting seemed partly responsible on Saturday as we did have at least 3 clear chances.

    “Martinez was mediocre at Everton”

We’d be bloody lucky to have Roberto Martinez. Like Brendan Rodgers, the guy got harsh treatment in England for having a positive outlook. Everton have spent a lot of money since he’s left but they are even further away from the top 4.

Either way, we aren’t getting him so there’s no point arguing the point. Most of the coaches in the betting (Martinez, Rose, Benitez, AVB, Michael O’Neill) are out of our reach.

It’s Lennon or somebody else uninspiring like Moyes.

My concern is based off things I’ve heard about Lennon’s approach. For example, the way Joe Ledley discussed his time at Celtic on the open goal interview worried me. A lot of emphasis on “winning your battle” etc.

My only hope is that he’s open to adopting the BR model with John Kennedy (he’s sent out mixed messages in that regard)

That is a fine aricle and the succinct nature of it does, I believe , make it much simpler for people to understand just how basic the issue is. I would strongly recommend that `simplicity is key` be the underlying approach in this matter. I would like someone to organise a kind of protest group whereby genuine action would be taken en masse and, hopefully, by thousands.

    Cheerio for now,

  10. David 66,

So sorry to hear your sad news. Inevitability does not make it any easier.

I’m in awe of your courage.

Sincere condolences to you and all the family.

  11. AULDHEID

Not forgetting the Traverso letter which confirmed their New Club status. I assume it’s in the archives too. So much to admire in the continuing efforts you and others make on behalf of the supporters of all clubs to demand proper governance, and acknowledgement of its lack over the years.

While Sevco continue to have official backing for the Continuation Myth, we’ll never be able to call Scottish football a sport.

    Bookmarked for proper revision later.

    Thanks, and Hail Hail.

  12. Hot Smokie and Auldheid…….

Yep, agreed. now the naughty stuff is simplified an appropriately simple protest required.

An issue to resolve here now tho’ is that we can’t only EDUCATE and INFORM fitba’ folks to do something about this fundamental issue – ( its important and vital that its done, and the facts laid…..”bear”……….. but to be completed an emotional response needs to be aligned with thos facts – we need people to FEEL sufficiently MOVED to lead and force change.

  13. Davie Moyes is not the answer , no matter what the question was.

English pess said he was ‘ unfortunate to have so many injuries’ at ManU , they gave him a free pass because they all liked him.

At Everton and Man Utd he employed fitness techniques that are from the 50’s & 60’s. He got rid of the Utd backroom staff with all their sports science.

Preseason injuries started occurring at Old Trafford ( as they had every year at Everton).

    They were his fault.

I remember the interview that Raymond Verheijen gave to Danny Kelly when he resigned from His role with Wales, he slaughtered ‘English’ coaching in general and Davie Moyes in particular.

I found an old article ( below) which covers some of his points.

The Dutch fitness specialist Raymond Verheijen has criticised the training methods of David Moyes, who claimed to have “overtrained” Robin van Persie “to build up his fitness”. Though Moyes may simply have meant that Van Persie had been worked hard in Manchester United training sessions, Verheijen, who has been employed with Wales, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City, was unhappy.

Through his Twitter account, he observed that Van Persie had been withdrawn with muscle tightness in his thigh during United’s friendly in Japan, inferring it to be a consequence of the fitness work he had done in the preceding days.

“The only way to solve this problem in Jurassic Park is to improve education of these dinosaur coaches, fitness clowns & scientific cowboys,” he wrote. “All over the world in preseason you see the pattern overtraining-fatigue-injuries’. Always avoid accumulation of fatigue in pre-season.”

So a big no from me if Celtic are even thinking about Davie Moyes.

As for the squad, rather than thinking about who needs to leave we should think about who needs to come in.

The Goalkeeper is fine. Bain is now worth a heck of a lot of money. We have been very lucky with not spending any money at all in the goalkeeping department and ending up with our last 3 goalkeepers. We will need a back up though and one who can play with their feet.

A new right back is a must.

At least one centre back is also a must. I think McKenna may be one of those though it will depend on Lawwell and his opinion and his contacts opinion on him.

A left back looks to be a must in order to back up Tierney.

A holding midfielder doesn’t look to have the same urgency as it had given McGregor demonstrating his ability to play there. Brown is getting older but looks good for the 10. It may be that we need to bring through our own or scout well in the long term for this specialist position. Browns absence or longer term retirement may bring about a change in formation or approach rather than looking for a direct replacement. I would be trying Christie in a deeper role alongside McGregor to see if he could transition in the same way Paul Lambert did on leaving Motherwell for Dortmund.

On the number 10 role, it remains to be seen if Tom Rogic can contribute more than 50% of the time he has been able to give. Injuries, match fitness, formation changes and his international career all contribute to loss of form and return. I think we could get better than Tom on a more consistent basis. We have stopped trying passes through the middle when we are close to the opposition box. We also lack pace when Rogic plays and we need to counter. A number 10 is key to away games in Europe and their ability to take the ball under pressure and get it to our striker. A number 10 is needed.

We also need at least 1 winger given Sinclair will go without the protection that Rodgers afforded him from Lawwell. I also suspect Forrest will go. Shved will come in but we need a left sided winger who can also protect the left back. It would be interesting to see us go with a proper 4 -3-3 next season with Edouard on the left but that depends on getting a central striker! Edouard has had some stand out games but more in the mould of Samaras than of Larsson. We need a Larsson to go alongside Edouard. So that should be dead easy!

So we also need a big fast skilful striker to complete the pack!

A right back and centre back are a 10/10 must. The others are less of a must, perhaps 9/10, but should be a priority.
